- geekchic, on 11/27/2007, -0/+17I am not religious - but I *love* churches, especially ones as awe-inspiring as this one.
- thul, on 11/27/2007, -0/+9This is Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, not Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris by the way. ( just to avoid confusion )
- 11Heather, on 11/27/2007, -0/+8It's even more awesome when you're there. This picture does it justice - best viewed with a wide screen.
- interg12, on 11/27/2007, -1/+9CCCCLUNK (that was the sound of my jaw hitting the floor)
- HollowMarkeD, on 11/27/2007, -0/+5Best thing I've seen this week, cheers.
- artsgraphic, on 11/27/2007, -1/+4Wow - I would love to see that in person.
- castevens, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3Well you picked the only word I can even relate to this: Brilliant. Thanks for sharing
- Rsardinia, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3Holy ***** that is amazing. I honestly have no clue how they do that you can scroll straight down and see the floor and straight up and see the ceiling and all directions you see no sign of a camera or tripod or anything how do they do that?!?!
- neoform, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3I walk past there every day on my way to work.. funny thing is, I've never gone inside. Always tons of Asian tourists there though.
- walkingdogs, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3I go to a Notre Dame football game every year and besides the Golden Dome I make it a point to visit this and the grotto. I'm also not religious but these places bring a sense of peace that are hard to match.
- JohnFrum, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3I agree, I love old churches. They just don't build them like they used to.
For the poetry fans...
http://www.artofeurope.com/larkin/lar5.htm - walkingdogs, on 11/27/2007, -0/+3my bad. it's just that there is a basilica on the campus of notre dame as well that is just as impressive.
- vatd112, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2Freaky
- Mockylock, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2If you hold the mouse all the way to the right and leave it there, it will give you the feeling that you're spinning in the center of the church. Not that I've wanted to do that or anything... or um.. .I've even tried it. But, yeah. *ehem*
- Raegar, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2Click Tools -> Options... -> Content -> Enable Javascript -> Advanced -> Uncheck "Allow scripts to Move or resize existing windows"
- expertninja, on 11/27/2007, -0/+2I was about to say the same thing. Someone who is better at programming than me should make a firefox extension that stops that. Seriously, it's really annoying.
- sepelester, on 11/27/2007, -3/+5Please - Do Not Resize My Browser Window.
- flag546, on 11/27/2007, -2/+4Almost makes me want to convert to Catholicism
- fatfreddyscat, on 11/27/2007, -1/+3I just might go to church on sunday if I lived near that.
- ChzPlz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Montreal has such great churches. Marie-Reine-du-Monde is one of my faves...
- neoform, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Err.. Notre Dame Basilica is located in Montreal..
- neoform, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1It's in Montreal.
- kidcodea, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1its taken around midpoint...
- jenx, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1It is indeed more awesome when you are there. I got to visit in January of 2005 and it was incredibly beautiful. I went in on a Friday night and watched the choir sing. It was so beautiful. So peaceful. Hmm someone below mentioned this is Notre Dame in Indiana.. I thought this was the original Notre Dame in Paris. I've been to that one as well as the one in Montreal since I lived in Montreal my whole life. Either way, stunning.
- 2legit2kwit, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1It is easy to confuse the Notre dame in Montreal and Notre dame in south bend the color of the ceilings are similar but the floor in south bend isn't tile and there is an area behind the main altar
- EthanFeldman, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1it's down :'-(
well.
I guess now i'll JUST have to leave my apartment and take the subway over to old montréal to enjoy it :-P - grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Fantastic. I love staring at the stained glass on the ceiling and spinning while zooming in and out with the shift and the control buttons. Kind of like a reverse bungee...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHVKndMZIwI&feature ...
- NSMike, on 11/27/2007, -1/+2Quite impressive. But smaller than I thought it was. The whole thing looks like it could fit into York Minster's nave. Unless there's more to the church that we're not seeing, and this panorama makes it look deceptively small.
- ChzPlz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1c'mon... the "subway"? Jean Drapeau would be insulted. C'est le métro. ;)
- ChzPlz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1Ummm... I just re-read your comment. This actually is the Notre Dame in Montreal.
- ChzPlz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1It's 36 separate photos pasted together... I think you take most of them with a tripod, and then take the tripod away and then take a couple pointing down
- inactive, on 11/27/2007, -1/+2I kept hearing our Pastor yak on and on about certain "needy" causes and people the Church was "giving" to only to find out after a few months of giving my tithe, the Church is now going to build a new gymnasium. Then they declared last week, they were also purchasing a brand new tour bus for road trips.
No, how much of my tithe do you think actually went to helping the needy or feeding the Children?! There is no way of knowing how much the church really actually gave to the needy or hungry. They just say "trust us"?
Churches are in the business of scamming money just like anything else. Panhandlers in a Fancy building!
If you want to really help needy people then give your money directly to them or at least a credible charity, but never give your money to a Church! - mahdaeng, on 11/27/2007, -1/+2Cool stuff, but I'm burying this because it resized my browser without warning. I hate that!
- expertninja, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1That is one funky staircase.
- MrCalifornia, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1My parents were married there.
- goddessophia, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1This is amazing! Breath-taking at the very least.
- dreesemonkey, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1This is getting dug down? Really? Props to you my friend, I was going to say the same thing. Quicktime is just barely better than Realplayer.
- ChzPlz, on 11/27/2007, -0/+1This is in Montreal...
- jquipp, on 11/27/2007, -2/+2Outstanding! Agreed ... I'd love to see it in person.
- mcducks, on 11/27/2007, -1/+1where is this?
- etx313, on 11/27/2007, -1/+1Same here. But they had to build them like that to give the followers a since of power. I'm gonna own an abandon church one day. And I'm gonna do evil ***** in it. rawr.
- snugglebear, on 11/27/2007, -0/+0Are you retarded? A) I work next to it and have been in it many times. Its in Montreal. B) Look at the guys site, even he says its in Montreal.
- cyberdude191, on 11/27/2007, -1/+1I actually work a few minutes away from it. even gave a speech there when i was in grade 5!
It's a beautiful place and I suggest you see the light show there if you are ever in Montreal. - snugglebear, on 11/27/2007, -0/+0Montreal.
- snugglebear, on 11/27/2007, -0/+0Come to Montreal. I work next door to it. Its astonishing to be inside. Its truely one of the things you HAVE to come to Montreal to see.
That and poutine. - AshamedAmerican, on 11/27/2007, -3/+2jesus tap-dancing christ that is something spectacular to look at.
- Neuralphreak, on 11/27/2007, -2/+1Aww look at the sinners! Look at them! LOOK! ... ok, that's enough.
"Yes, Bask in my glow" - walkingdogs, on 11/27/2007, -2/+1This is south-bend indiana Notre Dame. Kind of far from montreal
- spyd3rweb, on 11/27/2007, -8/+6Buried for requiring Quicktime.
- StoneLox, on 11/27/2007, -8/+3refuse to install quicktime
