- Gabberwok, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2You know that those 300 guys were all homosexual lovers, right? (Kind of makes contraception irrelevant.) One of the reasons they fought so hard for each other. Although I don't think there actual uniforms were anywhere near as gay as the ones in the movie...

- Dfects, on 03/30/2008, -6/+20Yes, because the pill also kills all known STD's?
- musleypope, on 03/30/2008, -1/+16Condoms don't stop all known STDs either.
- billybob217, on 03/31/2008, -0/+7Please this is Digg... Few of us have sex anyway...
- djbon2112, on 03/31/2008, -0/+10Then novel idea: don't ***** people with STDs. And if you "don't know", then you don't know them well enough to be ***** them. M'kay?
- jaznova, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Many people don't know what they have. When was your last std test? CDC guidlines recommend HIV testing for anyone who is sexually active. It is estimated that 1/4 of people that have HIV don't know it yet
- djbon2112, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Then perhaps it's a sign to get tested.
- Mike89, on 03/30/2008, -2/+18Also not all of us have sex with filthy random women.

- rhino369, on 03/30/2008, -0/+9Some of us choose to have sex with ugly and/or fat girls.
- ICSU, on 03/30/2008, -1/+5That's the same.
Or is there a guy who isn't a virgin and hasn't had a pregnancy scare?- Netrilix, on 03/30/2008, -0/+4I've never had an actual specific scare, but that doesn't mean it's not always in the back of my mind.
- xtrench, on 03/30/2008, -5/+10aren't we all virgins on digg? right guys? right?
- jhuebel, on 03/30/2008, -0/+24Yeah, I think I'd take these and still make sure my wife is on the pill. Why risk it?
- danomagnum, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3Yeah, and as the time approaches, you get more and more nervous... It's worse after a breakup when you're not talking to the person anymore, cause every time your phone rings you're just hoping it's not them with bad news.

- Riluske, on 03/30/2008, -1/+33Due to the fact that my girlfriend's family is catholic, they would disown her if she went on the pill, and honestly I'm sick of pregnancy scares. I would go on this thing in a heart beat
- Harbinger67, on 03/30/2008, -10/+26Find a new girlfriend.
- claireskitten, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I'm not that bad....
- jhuebel, on 03/30/2008, -0/+35So, they're cool with you two having sex, but she's not allowed on the pill? Crazy talk.
Catholics can be quite hypocritical. Without mentioning any names, the hospital system I used to work for (which is a "non-profit" Catholic organization) changed their policy about 6 or 7 years ago to allow abortions, but they won't cover the prescription costs for birth control pills or the cost of a vasectomy unless there's a medical necessity.
I'm thinking to myself, "My sanity would be preserved by not having more kids"-- I have three boys-- "Does that count?"- kxmjb, on 03/30/2008, -1/+9Her parents probably don't know that she is having sex, but going on the pill would make it pretty obvious.
- MoofTheStoof, on 03/30/2008, -0/+10Not unless she walked up to them, put it in her mouth, and yelled, "I'm taking my birth control pill, now!"
- Myonosken, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2The Catholic church doesn't actually have an issue with vasectomies. Then again, most Catholics follow the basis of John Paul rather than Pope Sidious for the simple fact he's too backwards and (funda)mentalist.
- jhuebel, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2Well, since I'm not Catholic, my frame of reference is limited to the hospital system I worked for whose mission statement is the embody the message of Catholicism. I had regular contact with clergy who ran this hospital system. In my experience, you are incorrect. If Pope Benedict is against vasectomies, then that means the Catholic church is against them.
Catholicism isn't the only religion against vasectomies, either. There are other religions that believe that a vasectomy is "mutilating" the body.

- fallingstars, on 03/30/2008, -1/+5The solution is simple. Use condoms or don't have sex. If she's sensitive to latex, use a polyurethane condom. They don't break when used properly. If you do have breakage problems, use a backup method like spermicide gel or foam.
- geartype2, on 03/30/2008, -0/+5I'm sorry I read that as floam and got the giggles.
- danomagnum, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3A 1/2" thick floam condom... wouldn't work for you, but i bet she'd enjoy it.
- geartype2, on 03/30/2008, -0/+5I'm sorry I read that as floam and got the giggles.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 03/30/2008, -0/+2They would not approve of sex before marriage either.

There's been some ***** in my past lives revolving around pregnancies and crazy bitches.
This at least gives the man some control about what kinda goo he's firing.
I'd really love to be able to select just love juice and know that I'm not gonna get this chick knocked up,
and then go off the pills to have a baby with the women i love.
It makes perfect sense, it's like what the pill did for women, only this time It'll help the man team! hahaha- Tahiri, on 03/30/2008, -2/+2"This at least gives the man some control about what kinda goo he's firing"

- mewho, on 03/30/2008, -0/+8I'm on birth control, and take it religiously but I've had pregnancy scares. My boyfriend and I have talked about him getting a vasectomy, but seriously, a pill is so much less invasive.
- DirtPile, on 03/30/2008, -1/+3I bet men would, but I doubt many women would be comfortable putting this in their guy's control, i bet men use it but women don't stop using pills either.
- goldfishey, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1depends, the pill has some pretty crappy side effects, and some women are more sensitive to them then others. Be interesting to see what, if any, side effects are deemed acceptable in the male version.
- jaznova, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1ED lol

- Deveak, on 03/30/2008, -67/+5Wait, why would I want to make myself infertile on purpose? I am not letting anything mess with the old soldier, what if it became permanent? Besides thats taking the poison out of the snake, I mean sure it can bite but whats the point?
- CATSCEO, on 03/30/2008, -1/+73...to not get the girl you're *****' pregnant?
- Kronos6948, on 03/30/2008, -1/+76There's very few things worse than the 18 year disease known as "children". It's more costly than Herpes.
- jhuebel, on 03/30/2008, -5/+2Well, I don't know if I'd call parenthood a "disease" or that it's a bad experience overall. Some days I would agree with you wholeheartedly, though.
Also, you are "cured" of your children after 18 years. You can't say the same about VD. - PoonGnarfler, on 03/30/2008, -1/+4Yes, I believe jhuebel is right, children aren't a disease, they are more like an affliction, like instead of being the herpes itself, they are more like the individual cold sores that pop up every once in a while, you get a few, they really hurt and you want to get rid of them forever, but you just can't, and then finally they are out of your hair, but you know they're gonna come back after college, just like you know another breakout will occur.
- jhuebel, on 03/30/2008, -5/+2Well, I don't know if I'd call parenthood a "disease" or that it's a bad experience overall. Some days I would agree with you wholeheartedly, though.
- jhuebel, on 03/30/2008, -1/+25Thank you for those utterly useless metaphors and completely flawed logic.
- TheSenator624, on 03/30/2008, -1/+8Ooooh, but it's okay for a woman to take that risk? Nice.
- MadOtaku, on 03/30/2008, -1/+1I think his post in retarded, but way to assume. He may be opposed to all pharmaceutical birth control.
- TripcodeMel, on 03/31/2008, -0/+0Have you ever actually been bitten by a snake?
- Chaoticfist, on 03/30/2008, -11/+115I will wait for a few years, for you guys to test it out :). The other question is who would use it? I am for a pill like this that is safe, But i will stick with condoms considering you could still get aids and *****.
- mst3kcrow, on 03/30/2008, -1/+135That's why you only go bareback with a trusted partner.
- carleethian, on 03/30/2008, -6/+1only thing is... you see, i'm not really into the whole condom thing...
- tpizz, on 03/30/2008, -0/+43Even in a long term relationship?
- Masticity, on 03/30/2008, -6/+12I'm pretty sure I've heard of skank ass wives sleeping around who end up giving their partner's aids.
- MoofTheStoof, on 03/30/2008, -17/+6Actually, it's probably much more common for husbands to sleep around and bring something unfortunate back to the wife.
- sarixe, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1well... we're not counting them. if it was a serious relationship, it wouldn't be like that, now would it?
- Masticity, on 03/30/2008, -6/+12I'm pretty sure I've heard of skank ass wives sleeping around who end up giving their partner's aids.

- RyanElston, on 03/30/2008, -6/+52If you don't trust the pussy, why you ***** it?

- doebob11, on 03/30/2008, -7/+8For aids: don't have sex with strangers
For *****..... use a condom. Or don't stick it in her pooper.- sarixe, on 03/31/2008, -2/+1aids is also transmitted through anal
- olenick, on 03/30/2008, -1/+14Go to Google. Type in the your state name followed by the term "child support calculator" Enter amounts you'll likely make and stick in about 1/3rd that amount for her. Think about that being taken from your paycheck every month for 18 years. Add to that the decision of being a total creep and growing up an absentee father or changing your entire lifestyle to be around for weekends with your kid (you're not going to get custody unless she's a total psycho, and probably not even then). Then, unless you're an idiot, pop BC pills and also use a condom to prevent STD's; should you slip up or screw up or get tricked your chances of picking up an STD still exist, but your chances of accidentally fathering a kid go down dramatically.
- sodade, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Just to add to a GREAT post: realize that women are financially and socially motivated to make babies. I only wish someone would have clued me in to this when I was young.
- tas08, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Just FYI, they don't prevent AIDS and other STD's, I mean, they do lower risk of transmission, but they aren't 100% for almost anything, including pregnancy for that matter (due to rips and improper use (how you can use improperly always mystified me...)).
- mst3kcrow, on 03/30/2008, -1/+135That's why you only go bareback with a trusted partner.
- Darkhacker, on 03/30/2008, -26/+55If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I hate to be a cynic but I have this gut feeling that later down the line we'll see flipper babies, sterile men, or certain kinds of cancer from this pill. Let's just pray my buddies don't start crying and getting pissed once a month like women do.
- CATSCEO, on 03/30/2008, -2/+43"certain kinds of cancer from this pill" they said the same thing about female contraceptives when they first came out...
- jlmillstein, on 03/30/2008, -0/+20Women who take the pill for 15 years cut their risk of developing ovarian cancer in half. The pill has prevented 200,000 women from developing cancer as well as 100,000 deaths.
- Jawoodyablowme, on 03/30/2008, -3/+7The pill increases the chance of Cervical cancer:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21706750/ - redstorm986, on 03/30/2008, -1/+11Yes and a good chunk of cervical cancer is caused by HPV. Ohhhh wait didn't they vaccinate against that like a 2 years ago? Meaning pill increases chances of unprotected sex.
- Jawoodyablowme, on 03/30/2008, -3/+7The pill increases the chance of Cervical cancer:
- Jawoodyablowme, on 03/30/2008, -8/+3So? They were right.
There is a link between birth control pills and some forms of cancer.
http://www.drgreene.com/21_796.html
There's always side effects with any medications. Poo-pooing them wont make them go away.
http://www.cancer.ca/ccs/internet/standard/0,3182, ... - Ellipsys, on 03/30/2008, -0/+5Actually, the FIRST birth control pills that came out had much higher doses of estrogen then they do now. Women were even more susceptible to serious issues like stroke, heart attack and cancer. As the years of modulations were done, they have diminished significantly on today's female hormonal contraceptives.
- jlmillstein, on 03/30/2008, -0/+20Women who take the pill for 15 years cut their risk of developing ovarian cancer in half. The pill has prevented 200,000 women from developing cancer as well as 100,000 deaths.
- LordRedSnake, on 03/30/2008, -4/+10Yeah I wouldn't trust this article at all. Progestins are extremely effective at suppressing the sex drive, but I guarantee that men will find the effects go on far longer than they like. Previous trials with progestins have resulted in severely suppressed sex drives for extended periods of time.
I don't know about you, but I'm not going to risk taking any pill that would risk permanent impotence or the growth of breast tissue. When you suppress testosterone in this fashion you're begging for bad results.- fyrehart, on 03/30/2008, -5/+4Why are you digging LordRedSnake up? FTA: "The preparation includes progestin, a key ingredient found in women's birth-control pills, AND THE MALE SEX HORMONE TESTOSTERONE" (Cruise control emphasis mine)
- anewname, on 03/30/2008, -5/+2Cruise control for cool? No one ever credits me for my bash.org-worthy genius.
- LordRedSnake, on 03/30/2008, -1/+4They're digging me up because exogenous testosterone also inhibits natural testosterone production. This is why men taking steroids crash after coming off of them. Any outside sources of androgens will suppress natural testosterone production in a matter of days and can require weeks to resume to normal levels when combined with suppressive hormones like progestins. In the interim you're left with high estrogen and low testosterone levels which leads to zero sex drive, feminizing traits (gynecomastia), and depression.

- tas08, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2What worries me is guys will refuse to take the pill if their... manhood... shrinks, yet pills for women can result in cancer and such. We are kind of jerks about forcing the whole burden on the woman.
- Gabberwok, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Um, what right wing Christian research are you using? There are some risks associated with the pill - heart attacks (when combined with smoking), blood clots in women over 30, but cancer isn't one of them. There is actually evidence that the pill can reduce the risk of certain cancers (uterine for one). It also prevents acne and can make periods more regular (and even reduce them to a few times a year). Messing around with hormone levels can be risky, but the pill is fairly well-established as safe and incredibly effective.
- shadeOfGrey, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2Forcing the burden on the woman? They take the pill cause they're the only one who can (currently). I would much prefer to have the burden on me. Can't trust those females when it comes to pregnancy.

- bonecones, on 03/30/2008, -8/+28It's going to be interesting to see if the number of STD cases increases after this is introduced in the market. The only thing making some guys use condoms is the fear of getting a girl pregnant, if that fear is removed I believe we will see an decrease in condom use.
But at least for me, this product is very welcome.- leexy, on 03/30/2008, -10/+2You had a good point, until you made that silly "the only thing making some guys use condoms is the fear of getting a girl pregnant" remark. In any case, it will indeed be interesting to see how the introduction of this product correlates with increases in STDs.
- Myonosken, on 03/30/2008, -0/+13No he's right. He didn't say all guys, but a large number of idiots don't actually think about STDs.
- mewho, on 03/30/2008, -0/+7I don't think it will. The men using this birth control are going to be men who are showing responsibility for their actions. The understand the consequences of sex. The men who wish to protect themselves from the financial and emotional headache that is a baby are the same men who will wish to protect themselves from STDs.
- purzzzell, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1I think a lot of dumb men still use condoms just to prevent pregnancy and MOST std transmission is male-to-female. Combine a man with an STD who's not concerned enough to use a condom for anything other than preventing pregnancy with a girl with the same attitude and std's are spreading like wildfire..

- girlpirate, on 03/30/2008, -2/+13initially I reacted to your comment with righteous indignation. then I realized that I know at least 3 women who have done just that. Bitches.
- GeorgeClayton, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1The FIRST time me and my EX did it, I asked her and she said we were safe. Well, bitch, sex or bad taste? Take your pick!
At least now maybe it'll be safer & a lot cheaper to reverse than a vasectomy. - herkimer65, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1I was told not only was she on the pill but she also didn't think she was capable of getting pregnant.

The freedom of no longer having "oh *****" moments, and being in control of when you actually want a family instead of possibly being "tricked" into having children is IMO worth it. - xstarsprinklesx, on 03/30/2008, -0/+17Um, neither do women. It's called preventative medicine. You take it every day, not just a day when you know you're going to have sex.
- Myonosken, on 03/30/2008, -0/+6Its designed for guys in relationships, given condoms should still be used in one night stands, so you can usually work out when (ie, most days).
- shadeOfGrey, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1As a male, you're suppose to always assume you ARE going to get laid. Therefore everyone would take this every morning. Hell, I'd fill my water softener with the stuff so I wouldn't have to remember.

- Hetman, on 03/30/2008, -10/+5I will still stick with a vasectomy at this moment. It does not mess up your hormones and it can be reversed. Furthermore all you have to do is put some of your boys on ice in case you do want some kids in the future. It is not until men can have a reliable birth control that they experience true freedom.
- fallingstars, on 03/30/2008, -1/+17Vasectomy reversals are a complicated surgical procedure that has a fairly low success rate. When they sew the vas deferens back together, scar tissue usually blocks the movement of sperm through them.
Don't ever get a vasectomy unless you intend for it to be permanent. Reversal is just a lucky bonus, not a guarantee. - Hetman, on 03/30/2008, -1/+10I do not need a gurantee if for some reason my sperm accidentally get lost or unfrozen. - Merekondigg, on 03/30/2008, -0/+23"The real question is, would any man use it?"
Here's at least one that would. They've been working on something like this without much success for ages, and I've followed it all with interest.
Obviously I want it to be safe. Well tested, etc. But assuming it works as expected (including no ill effects from the hormones), this sounds pretty awesome. Imagine being able to flip your fertility on and off at will, fairly easily and cheaply. The article hit the nail on the head: a lot of men are longing for a means to control their own reproductive matters, without having to rely on women. Yes, there are condoms and vasectomies. Condoms will still be needed in a lot of cases (this treatment doesn't protect against STDs after all), but in a situation where you're ready to trust that your partner is "clean", condoms aren't ideal as simply a contraceptive. They kill a lot of sensation, they break the flow of it all, and they take away some of the intimacy of the act. And Vasectomy, of course, is permanent, which most men aren't thrilled about. This gives us a much-needed third option, and makes sex that much safer and easier to enjoy. As the poster above me said, Hell Yeah.- springhell, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1There will be side effects though. Look into side effects for female birth control - it's scary *****, but we have no choice.
- shadeOfGrey, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Babies are scarier.
- KJSatz, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1Well Vasectomies can be reversed a lot of the time, but I might not plan on a successful reversal.
- springhell, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1There will be side effects though. Look into side effects for female birth control - it's scary *****, but we have no choice.
- xstarsprinklesx, on 03/30/2008, -5/+6Female hormonal BC has the unfortunate side effect for many women of lowering sex drive (one reason it works so well for a lot of people!). If this one works in the same way (which I would assume it does, given that it affects hormonal levels as well) I can't really see many men going for that.
- MacEnvy, on 03/30/2008, -2/+7Why? I'd love to not think about sex all the time. If it decreases my sex drive by half I'll get a lot more done every day.
- segrev, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3It's true. Studies have shown that some birth controls can have long-term (maybe even permanent) effects on the female sex drive.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_hormone_binding_g ... - diggkeba, on 03/30/2008, -1/+2It definitely hasn't decreased my sex drive...I think it's increased actually.
- plnegative1, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1Agreed xstar. MacEnvy, if you DON'T DO THINGS because you are sitting around thinking about sex you might have ADD. Sure guys think about sex a lot (so do women), but it's only when we're sitting around not having our attention occupied.

- dxgg, on 03/30/2008, -10/+7Geez, this is pathetic. Over half of you are making jokes about taking it/not taking it, as if a) an unwanted pregnancy would be her fault, and b) you don't have a problem with the possibility of bringing a child into the world that you don't have any intention of supporting.
All jokes aside...it's not a laughing matter.- darkwing81, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1STFU

No seriously a great idea , such as : sorry honey its not mine due to I am on the PILL , just like the great idea the CPS has in making every guy get a DNA test to make sure the little spawn is his. - mrsteve0, on 03/30/2008, -0/+10Finally, It's about time men had some good news on reproductive options. I know I don't want to be a daddy or have to pay for a child and wife because she forgot her pill.
- frogman54, on 03/30/2008, -6/+38Possible side effects: (in very tiny print) May cause penis rot, 3rd testicle, anal leakage, and mutant babies with laser eyes.

- noahgelman, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1isnt it supposed to prevent babies?
- Yondelldude, on 03/30/2008, -0/+3There's another method of male contraceptive being developed if this one scares you. It deals with the inhibition of the CatSper gene in sperm that are responsible for the sperm's ability to push through the outer layers of the egg and unite with the nucleus.
- brothershine, on 03/30/2008, -18/+1Inpossible what is your deffinition of 100% if you linned you infinite women and one man he not get a women pregant or if you lined up infinte men and one women, ***** so its 99.999% and what if your the .0001 dude that would suck ill stick with condom cause im pretty sure nothing can through latex, I trust science only that far.
- tpizz, on 03/30/2008, -0/+8damn son! why you be so ignant!?
- velcrocore, on 03/30/2008, -1/+2I think you're saying that you trust latex, which is probably less effective.
- tpizz, on 03/30/2008, -16/+5So there is now a pill for men. Great. Its amazing that science is finally here but does this really serve a purpose? Women take "the pill" to not only avoid pregnancy but it also regulates their period, eases PMS and menstrual cramps, clears acne and some doctors claim that it reduces the risk of ovarian cancer. Men would simply take this to avoid pregnancy. The incentive is far less beneficial as we would feel no results. In my opinion there is a good chance that many of us would forget to take it. The male pill is a breakthrough, and we as a people have been fascinated with sex since time began, but I say the research money is better spend on curing cancer.
- Hetman, on 03/30/2008, -0/+13I disagree. Look how many kids that grow up with out a father because he is not ready to have kids yet. I'm not saying we should stop researching cancer, but this is a far better break through than something like Viagra or other pills in that category.
- michael43, on 03/30/2008, -2/+2It's not they are not "ready to have kids yet" but that they've been taught they don't have to be responsible for their actions.
- senatorpjt, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1It's that they haven't been taught to never trust a woman when she says she's on the pill.
- michael43, on 03/30/2008, -2/+2It's not they are not "ready to have kids yet" but that they've been taught they don't have to be responsible for their actions.
- Hananda, on 03/30/2008, -0/+10Couple things. While cancer research is certainly important, consider the consequences of cutting down the number of unwanted pregnancies. Population growth slows, number of abortions drops, number of children put up for adoption drops, etc, etc. Long-term, this could save a similar number of lives to a cancer cure, what with the reducing the burden on our infrastructure and resources.
Also, is it really so difficult to work a pill into ones morning regimen? I would think it would become habitual after a week or so. That's not to say you don't have a valid point, as apparently women frequently forget to take their pill, but I just don't see it as a major concern.- michelewithonel, on 03/30/2008, -0/+4it's not so much that women completely forget to take their pill, it's usually that they forget to take it on time. in order for birth control pills to be most effective they have to be taken at approximately the same time every day. it sounds easy but not everyone has a schedule where they do something at the same time every day. and if you start relying on an alarm say on your phone, then you get screwed when you decide to turn off your phone or forget it somewhere.
and you would think that because it's such an important thing to take if you are sexually active that you wouldn't be able to forget it, but the truth is the longer you take it, the more you take it for granted and feel like it's not a big deal.

- mewho, on 03/30/2008, -0/+5I promise you I take birth control solely so that I don't have a kid. It does have some odd side effects--for example I never used to have any pms symptoms, but I deal. 3 bad days a month are worth it so I don't have to deal with a life time of having a kid.
- springhell, on 03/30/2008, -0/+1Wrong. There are many negative side effects to female birth control, and ***** scary ones at that.
- fef560, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1You're ***** stupid
