- ChileanGoD, on 06/30/2009, -0/+46A 5 year old kid survived the crash!!

- Westerhousen, on 06/30/2009, -0/+24Yikes. Its a bad couple of weeks for planes and celebrities.
- CaptainNoPants, on 06/30/2009, -1/+23CNN is reporting that a toddler miraculously survived the crash
- guhpol, on 06/30/2009, -12/+33Ok, this time you convinced me.. no more Airbus flies!!!
- brandnewx, on 06/30/2009, -2/+22Miracle killed 153 people but saved one. Does that make any sense?
- stutimandal, on 06/30/2009, -1/+21A train also exploded in Italy today. Last week also a train exploded around US-Canada border. Too many accidents are happening.
BTW, as per the BBC report, this plane was labeled as "faulty" by French aviation department: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8125664.stm
I know one airline that must be avoided. - untitlednet, on 06/30/2009, -1/+15Bruce Willis?
- connor9, on 06/30/2009, -1/+14Doing a quick tally of airline crashes in the past three years reveals this:
2009
Airbus: 4 (2 with fatalities)
Boeing: 2 (2 with fatalities)
Other: 20 (20 with fatalities)
2008
Airbus: 3 (3 with fatalities)
Boeing: 4 (2 with fatalities)
Other: 50 (48 with fatalities)
2007:
Airbus: 1 (1 with fatality)
Boeing: 4 (4 with fatalities)
Other: 48 (47 with fatalities)
Wait, so now we must avoid Boeing???! The had tons of fatalities in the last three years. More than Airbus. But that's misleading.
The more common thread is that the majority of fatal accidents are with very poor quality airlines. The fact the Hudson river incident and Air France happened somewhat close together have gotten more attention because they were mainstream airlines. Now every incident is going to be jumped on until it all dies down again.
We have to remember that the reporting of accidents doesn't necessarily reflect what's actually happening in the world. Relax, stay calm, and research the airline first. The airline is more important than Airbus or Boeing.

This is your final warning. - googooly, on 06/30/2009, -3/+12***** everytime i turned on to Digg I see more dead people news.
- mnpilot, on 06/30/2009, -3/+10MIGHTY PUTTY WILL KEEP THE PLANES FLYING
- mnpilot, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8Welcome to real world of life and death. ***** happens.
- monodelasno, on 06/30/2009, -1/+8We need a celebrity death on an Airbus as a combo breaker
- nepidae, on 06/30/2009, -2/+8I'm sad on two levels that these types of events happen. Sad that people die and sad that we still cannot prevent these events from happening. We get so caught up in our supposedly superior technology that we forget we still have not come close to mastering our own planet. Be it random destructive weather or completely unforeseen circumstances. I feel for both the loved ones of the people on the plane and the people who built and designed it. I know that I would want to create a plane that could survive anything and I think they would want to as well.
- SuperCujo, on 06/30/2009, -1/+7Get some perspective...
Stats (not including incidents still under investigation or hijackings)
A310 - 8 crashes with a total of 673 fatalities
A320 - 14 with a total of 637 fatalities
A330 - 2 with a total of 7 fatalities
A340 - 2 with a total of 0 fatalities
737 - 133 crashes with a total of 3847 fatalities
747 - 40 with a total of 2850 fatalities
767 - 6 with a total of 569 fatalities
777 - 1 with a total of 0 fatalities - mnpilot, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6That's misleading as well. The 737 has been flying since the 60's and their are thousands of them. Is that the total amount of accidents per type for the types life span? I will take the 737's safety record over any of them. That's 50 people lost their lives per year on the 737. Hair dryers and showers should be so lucky.
- borez, on 06/30/2009, -0/+6""The company was not on the black list but was subject to stricter checks on our part"
There's a black list? It should be made public. Period. - inkubusfan, on 06/30/2009, -1/+6luckiest. kid. ever.
- frequentFlyer, on 06/30/2009, -0/+5You're sad that people die? You are setting yourself up for a whole lotta sadness.
- Ineedanap, on 06/30/2009, -3/+8Like the French?
- ripple123, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4what a amazingly generic and boring statement of sympathy. im ***** sad people die too. im happy when they live. i also not only desire to master the planet, i wanna ***** this planet up the ass. with a plane that could survive anything.
- SuperCujo, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4That was my point.
The A310 was only running at 26 per year before the latest incident.
The call to boycott/ground Airbus is misguided at best, moronic at worst. - plaguepony, on 06/30/2009, -2/+6I think they would have preferred not crashing as to the "miracle" or one surviving.
- Hraes, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Seriously. Air France, Billy Mays, Italian train crash, TPB sellout, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, now this? Jesus, June. Give us a break. Please, no more.
- borez, on 06/30/2009, -0/+43 this year including the one that ditched in the Hudson.
- diggduggjoe, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Unfortunately, we may not know for sure of why these failures occur, but Airbus is about one more crash from creating a market where fliers ask about the aircraft.
Traditionally, a plane is a plane, but with so many failures in such a short time period, doubts will arise. I've flown on Airbus before, but I may be a bit more clenched fisted next time. - InactiveCargo, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Where did you find out there were French passengers? The plane was from Yemen to Moroni.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ...
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ...
The crew were Yemeni, and I haven't found a news story containing the nationalities of the passengers. If there's a better article with a breakdown of passenger nationalities please share it for the community. - frequentFlyer, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Dr. Evil?
- SuperCujo, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4Why?
The Air France crash was a A330 and there have been no other incidents this year involving an A310.
If all it takes to ground an A310 was one air safety incident, the 737 would be grounded for a long time. There have been two incidents this year resulting in deaths in 737s.
This plane had been noted for some faults on a previous visit to France and it hasn't been back since to check if has been fixed. This is an airline issue, not an aircraft issue. - smackydoodle, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4"unexplained deaths of huge celebrities"
I'm pretty sure they've all been explained, people just want a bigger story than cancer and heart failure. - gizram84, on 06/30/2009, -3/+7it wasn't a miracle that 153 people died. that was a tragedy. the miracle is that a ***** plane crashed mid-flight and a ***** 5 year old lived through it..
- slimasian, on 06/30/2009, -2/+5Sheesh, that's the 2nd Airbus-involved tragedy this month out of 3 Airbus incidents overall. Crappy coincidence or crappy equipment?

edit: shady too, not been a good month june. - ldailey06, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3The most used airplanes have the most crashes. This should not be surprising.
- OfNumbers, on 06/30/2009, -1/+4I was convinced since I watched The American Experience.

- Agamemnon582bc, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3All of these recent plane, train, and building accidents sounds like the work of Mr. Glass.
- frequentFlyer, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3Kind of like that plane that crashed in Buffalo? Lots of 9/11 figures on that one. Good job, blackops!
- keyo, on 06/30/2009, -2/+4You can't legitimately use the word 'Breaking' on a medium that is not streaming live. There is no schedule on the internet to break.
The news has already broken by the time you've submitted it. ***** you for using such a retarded cliche.
Sad story though. - SteelChicken, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Grow up flower child. Death is part of life. Lack of control is part of life.
- BossKey, on 06/30/2009, -2/+4So nobody mentioned that the last two doomed flights were headed into or out of Paris? Helloooo...
- SuperCujo, on 06/30/2009, -1/+3More follow up... the 737 has some scary stats...

- mysql101, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Singapore air is a good mention because they retire their planes a good decade sooner than the US and other countries do.
- cheechman85, on 06/30/2009, -0/+2Ugh.... Flying to Brazil tomorrow... Last thing I want to hear.
