- Karmashock, on 03/27/2009, -38/+285You know what, I accept his blame as a white person... On one condition, I get to claim the last 150 years of economy prosperity. What exactly was the economy of "latin" america before whitey? I also get to claim airplanes, the internal combustion engine, computers, electricity, space travel, antibiotics, and basically the whole modern world.
I'll tell you what, the day you've contributed as much to the modern world as the "evil white man," is the day your complaints become credible. And FYI, salsa music and unstable governments is not what anyone would call a "contribution." Brazil is one of the best countries in South America and you have every right to be proud of it. But on your own you wouldn't have be a shadow of what you are today. So if you want to damn the fact that you're connected to our system, consider the full picture. You've gained far more then you've lost.
Stirring up racial and ethnic hatred to distract the people from a their troubles is a pathetic move... and though your people have consistently demonstrated a lack of shame at such remarks, know that they're only a distraction that will get you nothing but isolation and distrust by investors that you'll need in the generations to come. You've done nothing but confuse and hold back your people. - inactive, on 03/27/2009, -31/+175The president of Brazil can find the biggest steel pipe and ***** himself with it.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -28/+159FTA:
Speaking in Brasília at a joint press conference with Gordon Brown, the UK prime minister, Mr Lula da Silva told reporters: “This crisis was caused by the irrational behaviour of white people with blue eyes, who before the crisis appeared to know everything and now demonstrate that they know nothing.”
He added: “I do not know any black or indigenous bankers so I can only say [it is wrong] that this part of mankind which is victimised more than any other should pay for the crisis.”
Mr Brown appeared to distance himself from Mr Lula da Silva’s remarks. “I’m not going to attribute blame to any individuals,” he said.
Me:
Gordon Brown is a pussy. If he had any pride at all, he would have stormed out and ended his visit to Brazil immediately. - a2fan, on 03/27/2009, -5/+131As a white guy with brown eyes, I am glad I don't have to deal with this blatant racism.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -11/+102Not all white people are responsible. Just the blue-eyed white people.
Maybe Lula was conducting a Jane Elliot experiment.
http://www.thepoliticalcesspool.org/jamesedwards/2 ... - inactive, on 03/27/2009, -11/+96As a white person with blue eyes, I would like to officially apologize to President da Silva. Heaven knows, we don't want to offend Brazil and risk losing....um...whatever it is that we get from them.
- Malinse, on 03/27/2009, -5/+78Yes, What's hypocritical is that this guy, da Silva, is a white person also. Maybe he doesn't have blue eyes, but if he is Brazilian from Portugal, then he is from European stock like Spaniards, etc. They originated from either tribes crossing into Eurasia or sailed from some Persian or some Asian area. He is a complete moron.
- curtisag, on 03/27/2009, -31/+97Irresponsible people who agreed to costly sub-prime loans are primarily responsible for the crisis. And it just so happens, a lot of those people are non-white. But facts get in the way, lets blame it on whites with blue eyes and simplify things.
- nesagwa, on 03/27/2009, -7/+62Some douchey president guy from South America blames everything on white people.
Doesn't give you an excuse to start blaming everything under the sun on black people.
What the ***** is wrong with some of you. - Kyrgizion, on 03/27/2009, -5/+56Transsexual camwhores.
- chickenbig, on 03/27/2009, -20/+70The calls of condemnation from the White House are so resounding they are hurting my ears. If Brazil has a hate crime law, why isn't Mr. Lunatic in jail for inciting racism and hatred?
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -5/+52STOP BLAMING EACH OTHER.
- tdawg202, on 03/27/2009, -14/+58I am astounded by the ignorance of some of these comments. It's amazing how quick we are to throw the term "racist" around without thinking about the different cultural context in which these words take place. For the record, the sentence translated "white with blue eyes," which would be "louro or branco com olhos azuis" is a standard term that everyone uses to describe the elite ruling class in Brazil, as well as foreigners from the northern hemisphere in general. It's a reflection of Brazil's racially polarized history and not literally a singling out of everyone who meets those specific physical characteristics. So chill.
- inactive, on 03/27/2009, -16/+60Did he happen to say anything about the size of these 'white' people's noses?
- seadeus, on 03/27/2009, -10/+45Why say this when the UK PM is present? Have some class, mrs. lulu.
- Gareth321, on 03/27/2009, -2/+37That's why he added the qualifier "with blue eyes". How the hell did people give him any sort of responsibility?
- x1soundgarden1x, on 03/27/2009, -20/+52Anyone else find it hilarious to see so many white people infuriated over some random President's comments blaming their race group for the economic crisis, and then in the same sentence launch into blaming various minority groups as the cause of the economic crisis? Do you even know what hypocrisy is?
Guess what, the majority of wall street bankers are white. The majority of subprime lenders and recipients were white. That's not because the white race is evil. It's just because whites are the majority population and because of our nation's history hold positions of power within many financial institutions. Someone points this out and you all flip the F*^k out? If you don't like being stereotyped then why the hell are you lumping entire minority groups as the cause of the financial crisis? Your faux outrage and double standard defensiveness are embarrassing. - jull1234, on 03/27/2009, -4/+35We get two girls AND a cup. Thanks Brazil.
- lowdose, on 03/27/2009, -5/+36I am white with blue eyes (no seriously I am) and I am fairly certain that this crisis is not my fault. I will ask others at the "white people with blue eyes" meeting tonight, though I am not sure they are responsible either...
- Filipp0, on 03/27/2009, -8/+39Karmashock,
I'm a Brazilian and I logged in just to dugg you up. - logosx1, on 03/27/2009, -15/+44He might be right. After all, without white people there wouldn't be much of an economy to collapse in the first place (maybe some grass huts, though).
- tdawg202, on 03/27/2009, -6/+34in his defense, in Brazil the term "loiro/branco com olhos azuis" is kind of a standard term that is used for people from the northern hemisphere, although obviously that is not technically correct. I am a white person from Brazil and I am often called that even though I'm not blond and don't have blue eyes
- wtrwlkr, on 03/27/2009, -4/+31Agreed. One stupid comment from a S. American leader makes the front page and digg turns into stormfront. Pathetic. ALL races contains their share of stars and 'tards and using this article to spout broad generalisations about a race is no better than the President's comment.
- GaltShrugged, on 03/27/2009, -21/+48In today's society, hating white people is positive racism.
- masamunecyrus, on 03/27/2009, -7/+31This is perhaps the most inappropriate thing I've heard from any head-of-state outside of Africa in the modern world.
- kingofinternet, on 03/27/2009, -10/+31haha
'that man is a racist! black people and the cra caused the crisis!'
lot of retards in this world. - AgeofMastery, on 03/27/2009, -6/+26They don't need an excuse. Most of these folk can regularly be found in threads passing judgment on all Muslims.
But somehow that isn't bigoted. - IVillageIdiot, on 03/27/2009, -3/+23Simple, yet effective....
- seantubridy, on 03/27/2009, -5/+24I guess all the brown and green eyed white people are off the hook.
- DarkBlueAnt, on 03/27/2009, -1/+20I'm sorry I caused this crisis with my blue eyes. I apologize to all my black friends :(
- Karmashock, on 03/27/2009, -3/+21Pfft, you think they're going to make more money by selling to the chinese? *laughs* Bro, we give them the best deal they're going to get from anyone. As to the jungle warfare... that doesn't make money, that just makes everyone poor.
We're not screwed, they are... When this recession clears up where are you not going to put your money?
Answer: Unstable shiftless governments that cease assets at the drop of a hat... which may or may not include the US at that point. Only Obama and the Democrat congress can tell. - HermanCV, on 03/27/2009, -29/+46I've got some REAL bad news for this piece of crap. 3/4 of people that live BELOW the poverty line in the US are White. They still hold down jobs, pay taxes, feed their families and with the exception of the ones that went White Trash obay the law.
Now, ask yourself, why is it that the major number of people living off of Gov't welfare, Food Stamps, Housing projects and unemployment, when they all get free education but choose NOT to use it properly, are NOT White. How many projects have you seen that are ALL White? How many Riots and Lutings are done by ALL Whites? Why is it that when Texas became a state the economy of both it and Mexico were the same and within 10 yrs Mexico fell behind so far even though they had the same resources? They, like other "Minority Communities", have leadership that victimizes it's own. Can you say Jackson, Sharpton, this moron and others in the Hispanic communities that use non-citizens as slave labor( they bust sweat shops here on a monthly basis and the workers are always from the country of the business owners origin) here in the US and in Mexico? This idiots is as racist as they come and because he is of "Minority Status" will never have to say he's sorry because our White Trash Media will take his side,,,as usual, Whitey is the devil, right, Bull Sh**!!! - Testies, on 03/27/2009, -27/+44You know what? He's right.
Too bad he had poor choice of words to describe what majority of world (which is non-white btw) thinks about how white Western Europeans have shaped the civilization we know today.
From African slavery to genocide of indigenous peoples in all of Western Hemisphere, Australia and colonization of Indian Sun-continent, White Western Europeans have a record of thinking of other races as nothing more then something to exploit or, in case if resistance, kill-off.
Hell, they are not strangers to doing it to themselves by looking at the bloody history of Europe.
Brazilian president echoes what majority of Brazilians (who are mostly descendant of African Slaves and Native South American peoples) probably think of a crisis that started in a country where racism was a government sanctioned policy in a lot of states only 50 years ago.
And as for all of you who talk about progress that White People contributed to the civilization as whole, it was always over the backs of peoples that did not willingly choose to lose their identity and culture over something that still to this day does not benefit most them in any shape or form. - Karmashock, on 03/27/2009, -0/+17Thank you. :)
I am glad to hear you were able to see my point without taking reflexive offense to it. I tried to make the point above that I bare no ill will against Brazil and it is justifiably a country your people can be proud of. At the same time, blaming white people is inconsistent and self destructive. Modern countries like Brazil need international trade with the largely white western world to prosper. We have both profited by this relationship so far and will continue to profit by it in the future. These sorts of remarks by your country hurt business... and so, yourselves. - hooah212002, on 03/27/2009, -9/+26No, you still have no clue.

Brasil is also one of the largest exporters of agricultural and small-arms in the world. The also make some great knives, check out Mundial. Not to mention that it has a population of 200 million and is one of the five fastest growing economies in the world (still growing through this world economic recession). It is often mentioned with Russia, India, and China as future world economic powerhouses (known commonly as the BRIC countries).
Other exports from Brasil that the US doesn't take part in for political and protectionist reasons:
Brasil was the first country in the world to become energy independent through the use of bio-fuels. And is second largest exporter of Ethanol fuel.
Brasil is also one of the largest producers of generic pharmaceuticals (and unlike China, one of the safest).
Oh and for you geeks let's not forget that Brazilian engineers like Marcelo Tosatti who brought us the Linux 2.4 kernel when he was only 18 or Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo who co-founded the Conectiva Linux distribution. And yes, let's not forget "Lua", the Scheme-based programming language (which nobody uses). - draxenato, on 03/27/2009, -0/+16Brown's a politician you idiot, he can't shoot from the hip and do or say the first thing that comes to mind, he has to look at the longer game.
- BasharTeg, on 03/27/2009, -5/+21"Funny you should start your timeline at 150 years ago - right about the time that Slavery officially ended."
It's so funny that people, especially black people, claim that slavery began and ended with black slavery in the United States. They're so arrogant about it that it's "Slavery" with a capital S. And yet if you look at how long their slavery lasted, compared to other races, and quite simply other people, that have been enslaved over the thousands of years of human history, their Slavery is a small blip on the timeline. The reality is, many slaves in Europe were white people, and many instances of slavery still exist today, including white slavery. Look at how many of the slaves today are white women from poor European countries.
You know why white people today don't complain and damn European nations involved in slavery of white citizens of less powerful European nations which were some of our forefathers? Because those people didn't do it. The people who did it are dead. And we weren't the ones who experienced it. Those people who experienced it are dead. When those people got their freedom, they didn't spend the next 200 years crying about the time they were enslaved, they moved on and worked to build something and improve their lives. And they had a LOT less than the average decendant of US slavery does today. - Nudar, on 03/27/2009, -8/+24This isn't taking something as a racial insult. This was a very specific remark intended to insult. There is no other way to take it. He specifically blamed people of a particular skin color for the world's problems.
- IvesMozart, on 03/27/2009, -4/+19I'm from Brazil, but I've moved to Australia because it was impossible to live there. Since I was a kid I've seen so much ***** and no prosperity at all. So anyway, Brazil has always been in crisis and what all people care is about soccer and carnaval. Therefore it doesn't make any sense blaming other people for it's own crisis.
- Anachronus, on 03/27/2009, -4/+19Europeans did all that because the beat the others to it. Slavery and conquest of others are a human trait not a white one.
- buddamus, on 03/27/2009, -5/+20Damn white people, oh wait I'm white.
CRAP!! - rhythmchanges, on 03/27/2009, -1/+16wouldn't that be sub-prime buyers?
- pilgrim3970, on 03/27/2009, -3/+16"He has done all he can to take money away from the middle class and rich in Brazil,"
And I doubt that it is finding its way into the hands of the poor in any significant amount. Instead it is probably lining the pockets of he and his cronies. After all, all are equal, just some more than others. - x1soundgarden1x, on 03/27/2009, -0/+13Actually white people are the largest recipients of welfare and white women with one or two kids have been the largest welfare recipient since its inception. By the way, you are stereotyping an entire race group in your attempt to not have yours stereotyped. Maybe you should think before you type?
- fragmit, on 03/27/2009, -2/+15I think you meant sub-prime borrowers, but what do I know, I am white with blue eyes..
- BasharTeg, on 03/27/2009, -8/+21How on earth is that a valid defense? The fact that they use a racist phrase as a "standard" phrase for white people doesn't make it any more right than the regions in the USA where "*****" is still the "standard" term for African American. The common use of the phrase doesn't make it not racist.
Describing people by the color of their skin and/or any other attributes is racist regardless of who you're talking about, especially if the point of your statement is to allocate blame on one group of people by the color of their skin. If you look at the word "*****" or "negro", its foundation is a description of the dark color of the skin of people from Africa. You could say that ***** means "black skin with eyes brown". The fact that the racism is a descriptive phrase rather than a derived slang word doesn't make it not racist. - graemee, on 03/27/2009, -1/+13So it was the damn Aryans.
- AmazingSteve, on 03/27/2009, -5/+17Just because I'm a blue eyed blonde, don't hate me. It's not my fault that I'm the Master Race.
- MonoDede, on 03/27/2009, -2/+14Okay.
And when those who gained property under "minority ownership" are denied loans, guess what happens? Now you're racist and a ***** for not lending to people of "non-white" background. It's a catch-22 really. -
