- arunforce, on 11/27/2008, -12/+205I find it sad that a rick rolling at thanksgiving parade makes front page, but a city under attack, something that happened yesterday didn't even make front page.
- DreamSpirit3, on 11/28/2008, -12/+130I am Muslim and I am completely dumbfounded. As a child growing up I truly believed that Islam was a good religion. One of the first things I learned was that Islam was good because of how well it treated women. This is simply crazy what is happening. I am ashamed of my religion. These guys are all going to hell. A religion no matter what the book says is only as far as its people takes it. I simply can't take it anymore after 9/11 and so much more. Most of the Islamic community is stuck in some alternate reality and is uneducated/illiterate. This makes me very angry. All the Muslims I know are nothing like this. The worst part is I used to live in Mumbai and that makes me even more angry and disappointed. I really don't know much more to say than how I am very close to converting to Hinduism. I can't blame people for hating Islam because unfortunately.... I hope one day Islam will return to Science/Art/Law. Remember Suleiman The magnificent and Suleiman the Lawgiver. Remember the Ottoman Empire, how amazing it was. It advanced science and literature. This means that it is possible for Islam to be great again.
I remember my grandpa saying that The western countries like USA and Europe practice True Islam before he died. And that Most islamic countries do not practice true islam. - jansie, on 11/26/2008, -6/+111this is terrible.

- inactive, on 11/27/2008, -10/+80I spent a month in India. During my week in Mumbai, I didn't stay in the Taj Mahal hotel, but I stayed down the street from it, a budget traveler. I dropped in once to use their toilet, and I must say it was the best toilet I encountered in all of India.
It freezes my blood to see this kind of thing happening in India. - patpl22391, on 11/28/2008, -28/+92Submitter too afraid to use the word "Muslim" in the title?

-God - tristan55555, on 11/28/2008, -6/+55I think its a little off base to call them "brainwashed fanatics". If they were truly brainwashed and fanatical we could not hold them responsible for their crimes. The truth is that these people know exactly what they are planning, getting into, and ultimately responsible for. This makes them that much more dangerous.
Only when we recognize the underlying motivations of these clearly intelligent (albeit radicalized) people can we really begin to end this sort of thing for good by addressing the root issues of terrorism such as territorial claims, systemic discrimination, poverty, and global inequality in general. - inactive, on 11/28/2008, -6/+55***** sakes, what a bunch of bastard animals.
- DreamSpirit3, on 11/28/2008, -3/+49When I speak of "How well it treated women" I am simply directing my comments towards the Koran itself. Not towards the Muslim Societies.
But when I was learning about Islam we were taught that one of the reasons why Islam is so great is because of its respect to women. Unfortunatly as I grew up I found this was not represented in more muslim societes. - Kronich, on 11/26/2008, -5/+44This is terrible.. Thoughts go out to the innocents caught up and affected by other groups agendas. I can't imagine what it would be like to live where your whole life can change within a matter of minutes..
- dronshaw, on 11/28/2008, -7/+45Imagine no religion
- sejr, on 11/28/2008, -11/+43Are you seriously unable to differentiate between Islam and Islam extremism?
This is why our world is ***** - people don't bother to research. - waxoff, on 11/28/2008, -3/+33@DreamSpirit3
I'm an Atheist who grew up Catholic with many Muslim friends here in the states. None of my Muslim friends here would recognize the actions of these extremists as the actions of someone who follows their religion. Be angry with the fanatics who have committed the crimes in the name of your faith, not ashamed of your own. There is nothing wrong with switching religions or dropping them altogether, but don't do it because a bunch of illiterate terrorists staked a claim on yours. - DaDrake, on 11/28/2008, -10/+39I am surprised that this news story just hit front-page news. After all, all the major news stations been covering this story 24/7. Seems like if it isn't about Sarah Palin or videogames, it simply isn't important to the digg community.
- mr100percent, on 11/28/2008, -5/+34To address all the bigoted comments on the board, Muslim leaders in India, Pakistan, UK, Egypt, US and elsewhere all condemned the attacks right away. Whoever did this was not following Islam, even if they claim to be Muslim.
http://digg.com/world_news/CAIR_Condemns_Mumbai_At ... - kanundro, on 11/28/2008, -0/+28This is pure cowardice. It never takes much to grab an AK-47 and hold civilians hostage or slaughter them. Acts like this where civilians are deliberately targeted and marked for execution like those in zarqawi's beheading videos are cowardly acts and utterly despicable. If you need to make a point, make it another way. The minute you resort to indiscriminate violence is the moment your cause becomes moot. Cowards like that should be hunted down with an international effort to send a strong message that the entire world and its peoples are tired of this and show a unified stance against this garbage.

- Danby123, on 11/27/2008, -2/+29Please, 13oom, can't you just be an offensive troll on articles that aren't about tragedies? In the case that you actually are serious, I agree that Bush and then Obama will need to take action. I really don't see how Mexicans factor into this though...

The outrage is about the simple fact that this is happening. There isn't exactly a sense of hostility towards all Muslims in India. Yes, hostility does exist, but it's more towards the radicals. This same hostility is expressed towards radicals of all religons within India. Now, there's obviously going to be a sense of animosity after this tragedy. Look at Operation Blue Star and the assassination of Indira Gandhi. There was an outrage against the Sikh community afterwards. Hell, if you want Christians, look at the purported assault and death of a Hindu guru. After that incident, there was an animosity against Christians also. Whenever a high publicity attack occurs, people's emotions are incited and we all tend to rise up and form a coalition of hate to as a method expression of our hate and outrage. As time goes by, this all does soften and everything returns to normal. This cycle has repeated itself time in and time out. It's not something you can avoid.
To inject an atheist agenda into a situation like this is ridiculous. Mind you, this is coming from an atheist. You're committing the same mistakes as those radical Christians who believed that Hurricane Katrina was caused by "people's sins" and because "god hates fags." This isn't the place for pushing your views. Have some tact; some of us have actually lost family members in this tragedy. - Yage2006, on 11/28/2008, -4/+30I wouldn't call them brainwashed. But I could think of about 1000 other things to call them.
- cak3, on 11/28/2008, -2/+27God (also known by the names of Jehovah, Allah, and Yahweh, among others) has stated in a recent press conference that he holds no responsibility for the misinterpretation of his will by fundamentalists in any religion.
Said God "Read the book: 'Allah is kind, Allah is beautiful, Allah is merciful.' It goes on and on that way, page after page. But, no, some ***** have to come along and revive this stupid holy-war crap just to further their own hateful agenda. So now, everybody thinks Muslims are all murderous barbarians. Thanks, Taliban: 1,000 years of pan-Islamic cultural progress down the drain."
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28151 - craeyon, on 11/28/2008, -14/+39Every culture/religion has its own idiots. For Muslims its the terrorists, for American its the rednecks. It is important to notice that both cultures have smart share of people as well. Which means that you shouldn't call every Muslims terrorists.
Its counter intuitive because the terrorist Muslims call everyone in America infidels (regardless of smart people or rednecks) and all of stupid America calls every Muslim a terrorist. Do you see the resemblance there?
Terrorism is something that will never go away. First there were the Germans, then the Japanese, followed by Russians and now its everyone from the middle east. - wheresmysnack, on 11/28/2008, -3/+26Completely missing the ***** point FTW!!!
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -4/+26Before any Christians get too high and mighty about how you don't see people of our faith slaughtering innocents all across the globe, realize that we only live in one little sliver of history and it just so happens that this is an age where Islam is infected by a radical fringe committing all these evil acts. Before you try to draw a conclusion on what it says about Islam as a whole, realize that Christianity had more than it's share of periods of fanaticism, persecution and genocide.
It makes no more sense to judge Islam as a whole by the era we live in than it would make sense to judge Christianity as a whole by eras where they were burning witches and slaughtering the natives. - stjoad, on 11/28/2008, -3/+25Religion isn't the problem. Human nature is the problem; these terrorists are simply killing people under the banner of religion.
- gaowaranai, on 11/28/2008, -6/+27It's not so much about religion; it's more about the radicals in religion.
- blackmesa, on 11/28/2008, -12/+33Calling them "brainwashed fanatics" is pretty stupid. It absolves us of any in-depth analysis at the reasons behind the attack. It implies they are mentally non-compatible with us, a different lifeform, something that is purely corrupt and cannot be rationally addressed. This is a problem. It is a problem because it leads to us underestimating our enemies BIG TIME. If you paint them as mindless zombies, then you assume they are only capable of acting as such, yet they clearly do not.
Furthermore, it ensures that you never critically analyse what occurred (because their motivations, purpose, actions etc can simply be discounted) and stops us from preventing it occurring again.
I understand people are angry, but turning them into straw-men is a foolish path to take. It's exactly the same when people claim terrorists hate us simply because we "have freedom" and they "hate freedom"; that this is their motivation. Obviously, after an iota of thought you can see this is false. No rational person "hates freedom", so it becomes easy to use that accusation as a way to paint the attackers as irrational, mindless agents.
People don't risk their lives on that scale, with that much complicated planning, funding, organisation and determination out of irrationality and mental incompetence. If we refuse to accept that, then our only answer is firepower, and the only result of that is more killing.
If you want to stop killing (which should be the objective behind the application of most military force, in its simplest & most abstract form), then you need to UNDERSTAND the enemy you are fighting. Otherwise, you're just setting yourself up to be a punching bag, to be blasted over and over again. - ArkRaider1936, on 11/28/2008, -2/+21"But we do it in your name! You like that, right?"
- religious zealots - charm803, on 11/28/2008, -1/+20Throwing acid on a female is not practicing true Islam, that's the point.
- Mohan, on 11/28/2008, -1/+19Well there was another article in the front page yesterday. Was even in the top 10 list.
- KSUdesigner, on 11/28/2008, -2/+20We know they have to get votes, the point is that a rick roll was submitted almost 24 hours later than this, but was dugg up to the front page far quicker.
- slvrbullet87, on 11/28/2008, -3/+20The group calls themsleves Deccan Mujahideen. That is a very islamic name, not to mention when they are screaming about infidels and praise allah it isnt hard to figure it out.
- akula89, on 11/28/2008, -4/+20honestly, in this case research isn't even required, just common sense. to paint an entire group of people because of the actions of the few is just.. incredibly asinine.
- DerangedPenguin, on 11/26/2008, -10/+26You mean some place like anywhere on this planet, a meteor might very well crash through the roof of your home. You could get "clocked" by a drunk driver while rushing to the store to get the cranberry sauce you forgot to get last week. Perhaps we need to be thankful that we are alive tonight and be thankful we most likely will wake up tomorrow morning.
Organized Religion is the evil that destroys faith. - patpl22391, on 11/28/2008, -6/+22You're right. He also assumed that they were brainwashed fanatics. It is most likely they were a pack of old grandmothers who were sick of hanging out at their nursing home, so they decided to go out in a blaze of glory.
- DreamSpirit3, on 11/28/2008, -5/+21No I am not an Idiot. If you read the Koran and Read the Bible. I have read both. Islamic texts give many more rites to women and freedoms than Christian texts due. Unfortunately this is not represented in most Muslim Societies.
- patpl22391, on 11/28/2008, -1/+16I don't think you can equate rednecks with terrorists. Maybe if you had said abortion clinic bombers, I'd agree.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -8/+23So many of these comments are so ***** disappointing.
Here's the bottom line... In all races, religions, creeds, whatever the ***** denomination; there's bad and misguided people who forget that we're all just people and some of those people decide that violence is the right choice.
Stop forgetting that most people are innately good. *****'s sake. - ragingflamerboy, on 11/28/2008, -4/+18Uhm.
You don't know much about rednecks then eh?
the kkk? - TalenGTP, on 11/28/2008, -0/+14You must LOL at yourself in the mirror a lot?
- angryfirelord, on 11/28/2008, -3/+16I certainly can relate. As a Christian, I can see the damage that other Christians have done in the name of God or whatever excuse they can come up with. Christianity, Islam, & Judaism are supposed to be peaceful religions that practice tolerance, but instead we get 1% of crazies from each that makes the other 99% of those people look bad.
- stuffradio, on 11/28/2008, -2/+15You being an atheist and making a comment like this makes me lol.
There is some incident that doesn't involve Christianity, and all you care about is the fact that no one is hating on Christians? Isn't that some sort of daily occurrence on digg anyways?
Please, care about the innocent people that are getting killed instead of bringing hatred towards of a specific group. I hope not all Atheists are as bad as you. - gaowaranai, on 11/28/2008, -1/+14There's no need for bigotry here. India was founded on Ghandiji's principles. This isn't a time for spreading hatred. Hatred is only going to continue this endless cycle of violence.
- Mohan, on 11/28/2008, -2/+15The local news reports that the Satilite phone company (no one knows the name... information gaurded by police) is not ready to share call data progressing between the terrorists. This was reported after 8 hours of the incident.
