- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48You know, as entertaining as this news story is, this is from Xinhua, which is state-run like all the other major Chinese newspapers (exceptions may be in HK). Its also just as likely that this news story was fabricated to encourage people not to go online. I mean over the months and years we've all seen lots of suspect news articles and this has some suspicion to it.
There was an editorial a year back that stated that the US was aggressively poised against North Korea, written as if we were on the verge of attack. 3 years ago it said that the initial invasion of Iraq was a failure, supplies were cut off, and the US troops were dying off by the thousands (of course China was siding with its former ally Iraq). Another state-run paper, The People's Daily also had a fun article about how American police officers randomly attack Chinese people because apparently the culture is so different and the average mannerisms of Chinese is perceived as deadly dangerous behavior. One time, the Beijing Evening news even posted an article from The Onion and "forgot" to credit it. When the entire world called them on the joke, the People's Daily lashed out and said it was propaganda and fake stories generated from the US, as if it was still failing to realize that The Onion was a satire.
Today, many Chinese journalists will write anything to please anyone who wants an article.
