- shadeOfGrey, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2Stupid kid. You're suppose to climb inside the dead polar bear to keep warm.
/s - Zippo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2Pfft... Frigid cold and polar bears? Walk in the park for the average Canadian.
- Zippo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2He named them "Lunch" & "Supper"
- firewall1, on 11/12/2009, -1/+3What did they do w/ the baby after the dude shot its mom?
- Alli3388, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1They split up because where the boy was walking broke off and floated away. It can happen very suddenly. I believe the uncle just stood there helplessly watching his nephew drifting off with freezing water suddenly in between them.

- aforsberg, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1He's getting some soon.
At least he deserves some. - krellor, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1In the video it says "but the snowmobile broke down and the uncle went on foot to get help". This would imply that the plan was to leave the boy there, yes? If you have a better source that is one thing, but based on the video it doesn't sound like the ice suddenly split.
- Navicerts, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1Maybe the cubs kept him warm.
- hayden.evans, on 11/14/2009, -0/+1He killed a polar bear too?! what a bad ass!
- JeffD, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2Because once news has been reported in one location, no one else is allowed to talk about it right?
(That said, I read about this in the newspaper two days ago so...) - Alli3388, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1I got my info from local Canadian news. *shrug*
- gwhenning, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Thank goodness for global warming. He might never have survived the cold otherwise.
/s - krellor, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1http://www.cbc.ca/canada/north/story/2009/11/10/co ...
"After Nakoolak departed on foot to get help, the ice cracked and the boy was stranded on an ice pan about 50 metres by 50 metres in size for about three days. Nakoolak was found on Sunday."
Dunno what else to say, I guess there are conflicting stories about. From the information I can see, they chose poorly to split up. I go ice climbing in the winters up in Canada and without proper preparation it is easy to die out in the bush mid winter. This boy was very lucky. - mgri, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1I thought I read somewhere that these guys were out with the sole purpose of hunting polar bears. Does anyone know if that's true, cos if it is, I've mixed feelings about his rescue. Hunting seals is fine by me, they're not at risk, but polar bears? I know the report says it was self defense, but I'm just wondering what exactly they were hunting.
- krellor, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2Why wouldn't they boy just walk with the uncle? It seems stupid to split up. I'd only leave someone if they were already too injured to walk, but didn't hear that in the report.
- RadiatedAnt, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1oh trust me, you will never see the same front headline in the chicago tribune day after day, unless its groundhogs day or something...
- Lafawndah, on 11/13/2009, -0/+0gwhenning I don't thing that is how global warming works. Global warming is due to everyone making splendid pies for me to eat!!! G0nefighing do you like to fish??? I like eating fish pie!!
- bayy, on 11/13/2009, -0/+0If I were him I would do what Han Solo would do and use the dead polar bear carcass for warmth.
- CoolBlue1, on 11/13/2009, -0/+0Polar bears aren't endangered in Canada. In fact in the area were this kid lives they are overpopulated.
- Lafawndah, on 11/13/2009, -2/+0I see your point that maybe the polar bear may have been shot before the boy was ever stranded or that they may have been hunting polar bear when the kid became stranded. But, with all due respect, I would not go as far as to say I regret a human lifebeing saved, even if he or she did have bad intentions. In an indirect way that is like saying a polar bear’s life is more valuable then a human’s life. But I do hope they were not hunting polar bears. I am going to go eat some pie.
