- blakbot, on 02/02/2009, -7/+73de-criminalize it. legalize it. regulate it. tax it. eliminate the federal deficit.
- bradspangler, on 02/02/2009, -5/+69Thank God!
- thechr0nic, on 02/02/2009, -4/+54just more evidence that the war on drugs is un-winnable and the only true way to reduce violence and increase safety not to mention boost the economy is to legalize.
It has already been documented that America's number 1 cash crop (beating all other legals ones even when combined) is Cannabis. Just imagine what revenues could be generated through taxation, if the crop were legal. Just imagine how safety could be improved through regulation and mass (consistent) production. Just imagine the amount of money we could save by not having to pay 30+ thousand dollars a year to house inmates. Just imagine the lives that would not be ruined when people cannot get a decent paying job or get a scholarship to better themselves through higher education.
The war on drugs has been FAR more destructive than the drugs they pretend to prohibit. - californicator, on 02/02/2009, -0/+37Michael Phelps can swim across the Rio Grande with a kilo of ganja on his back faster than anyone!
He must be going for the Acapulco Gold now. - inactive, on 02/02/2009, -4/+29If they would just Legalize It, we wouldn't have this ***** problem.
- QubitTarutaru, on 02/02/2009, -0/+16It's not the pot that bothers me, it's the Mexican cartels... Look at what they are doing to Mexico.
- EH90, on 02/02/2009, -0/+15I'm so ***** sick on this pointless stupid war on drugs! Every day we find another reason to end it, yet we keep ***** throwing money at it. Goddamn I need to go smoke a joint.
- toxicshok, on 02/02/2009, -2/+15No sir, there is a crime here. I'll tell you what the crime is: being unamerican. You purchased mexican brick packed weed that for all intensive purposes is *****, when there are hard working american pot farmers like you and me struggling to survive in this hard finicial time.
People we as a nation have to pull together and make smart choices.
So remember always buy american grown weed! - RunDiggMC, on 02/02/2009, -3/+16I'm just surprised there is still so much energy and resources focused on stopping marijuana in the 21st century.
- Alheithinn, on 02/02/2009, -4/+17Let's legalize it and tax these bastards. They can make a better profit because they won't be chased and arrested and then they can use the roads and pay tolls as well. We win all around.
- michaelpinto, on 02/02/2009, -6/+18I think Lou Dobbs should tackle this story right away by doing an infomercial for a "green friendly" hydroponic gizmo so he can save the middle class while protecting our borders. Faced with Dobbs yammering on for hours incoherently whilst clutching his flag pin would force the politicians to legalize medical marijuana AND eliminate the need for all of those Federal bailouts and pork which makes poor Kitty Pilgrim so hot under the collar.
- hoovergirl1, on 02/02/2009, -2/+14It's a complete and total WASTE of a lot of resources that could be being used in very much needed other places.
- DrewPeacock, on 02/02/2009, -0/+12So you're saying alcohol should be illegal.
- inactive, on 02/02/2009, -2/+14WHOA NOW HOLD UP..
isn't that just a bit too simple? don't we need to over-complicate things in order for it to be legitimate? - kufu91, on 02/02/2009, -0/+11"Mr. Reyes, the special agent, said, “The violence is happening because of the pressure we’ve exacted, but it does not fuel any increase or decrease in marijuana.”
No one sees a quick end of the violence in Nogales, Sonora. "
my god, these people are idiotic. legalize and tax to replace the cost of trafficking with the cost of the bailout. - therealrico, on 02/02/2009, -3/+14The real crime is people are smoking this stuff! Mexican weed is the worst!!!
- Frankyfan3, on 02/02/2009, -0/+11“The greatest service which can be rendered any country is to add a useful plant to its culture. “ Thomas Jefferson
Let us grow it here. Costs less and not so deadly. - Nauree, on 02/02/2009, -0/+10You've never smoked have you?
- inactive, on 02/02/2009, -2/+11One time I smoked a bowl with Lou Dobbs behind a Red Lobster. He was actually pretty cool for an old mop.
- urgeigh, on 02/02/2009, -0/+9Right, because when they legalize all sorts of people are going to start smoking that didn't when it was illegal. Get a clue. As if people will just go nuts and start getting ***** up and driving just because it's legal. People who don't smoke only because it's illegal *gasp* are obviously law abiding citizens so, what makes you think they'll start driving high if they start smoking post-legalization? Bad logic, in my opinion. Plus you can't compare alcohol and marijuana because marijuana doesn't impair your judgment even remotely to the degree that alcohol does nor does it wreck your motor skills as much or for as long a period of time.
- jamaph, on 02/02/2009, -0/+8FTA: “The violence has left a large contingent of police on this side of the border,” Sheriff Estrada said. “The killing will stop when somebody dominates. When somebody takes control.”
Right, so why doesn't the USA take control by legalization?
And ***** this article, the writer does not mention decriminalization, legalization, or ANY solution to this problem. - toxicshok, on 02/02/2009, -1/+9thats why you should always support your local hydroponics farm. If you buy foreign weed your helping ship hard working american jobs overseas. Is that really the future you want for your children?
So make smart decisions: if the grass isn't' american just say no.
Remember you aren't just lighting up for yourself, your lighting up for a better future for this great nations. - Hetman, on 02/02/2009, -4/+12Jose "We have 500,000 dollars worth of marijuana in the back seat."
Juane " Oh know a fence, they are impenetrable."
Jose " I guess we just take this marijuana back then" - ladyattis, on 02/02/2009, -0/+8Come on, legalize the crap already, then I can make some real cash selling nachos to the stoners (yay for secondary market!).
- inactive, on 02/02/2009, -3/+11I don't even need to leave my opinion; everyone here knows what needs to be done. The only people that seem to be behind on this issue are our politicians. Decriminalization and Legalization are 'Political Opportunities' NOT 'Political Liabilities.' The sooner our 'leaders' understand this, the quicker this eminent issue can be dealt with. digg and comment! - erkokite, on 02/02/2009, -0/+8Just because alcohol is legal doesn't mean everyone drinks it- the same thing would probably apply to pot.
And just think- if you let your kids smoke, maybe they'll turn into Olympic athletes like Michael Phelps! - Hetman, on 02/02/2009, -0/+8So you plan on stopping them from going to college?
- umahad, on 02/02/2009, -1/+8"The violence will stop when someone takes control".........I elect California...legalize it and take control.
- OPR8R, on 02/02/2009, -0/+7Might be already smoking it... You probably wouldn't know....
- positron, on 02/02/2009, -0/+7*intents and purposes
- Criminolelawyer, on 02/02/2009, -1/+7Actually if you legalize it, you will effectively kill their business. People wouldn't need to import weed from Mexico when Farmers here can grow. Also When you apply the concept of supply and demand to the situation it becomes clear the price for marijuana will plummet, as more people start to grow. Why would the cartels want to waste money running over the border to sell a product they couldn't possibly make a large profit on. Their entire business is based around the "drug" being illegal. I wouldn't be surpised if they were donating money to these anti-drug groups. That would be deliciously ironic!
- BoneheadFarker, on 02/02/2009, -0/+6So I guess the field sobriety test is completely non-existent in your world? It's doesn't matter why you fail it, but you probably shouldn't be driving if you do. Otherwise alcohol, cold meds, sleeping pills, compressed gas dusters, and turkey should all be illegal...
- funkedup, on 02/02/2009, -1/+7BUT BUT....weed is evil. dont you know that stuff is bad for you. we must win the war on drugs at all costs and to the naysayers we couldn't possibly invest the money better than we currently are. one puff could kill you and by only taking one drag you can become addicted to crack and heroin, since it leads to harder drugs. only psychos use it and it causes insanity and makes you murder your children. if you use this terrible drug, that clearly has no accepted medical use, then you'll never be a world class athlete like michael phelps.
- blackanode, on 02/02/2009, -0/+6go educate yourself. Drunk drivers = 30 mph over, high drivers 30 mph under, and stop 20 feet away from a stop light. Where the drunk driver wouldn't have even seen the stop light. They may be a little slower, but a HELL of a lot safer then drunk drivers.
- Koushiro, on 02/02/2009, -0/+6Normally I'm not for legalizing drugs and the like, but this is becoming a ridiculous thing. These guys are making huge profits off of out laws. Just legalize the damn ***** already and then we can make it and tax it and put a ton of dealers out of work.
- dalittle, on 02/02/2009, -0/+6oh, yeah. A nanny state is soooo much better than holding people responsible for their actions
/sarcasm. - Hetman, on 02/02/2009, -0/+5Your figure are off. Really Good green cost about 300-350 an ounce. And 1/8ths range from 50-60$ a piece.
- RicardoWilliams, on 02/02/2009, -3/+8LOL.
- Yage2006, on 02/02/2009, -0/+5Everyone who smoke weed probably knows that Mexican weed is the weakest.
- Frankyfan3, on 02/02/2009, -1/+6Seriously, I was in Texas one time visiting family, and discovered what they classified as "good stuff" was my definition of shake and junk.
I am spoiled in Seattle. - Lugal317, on 02/03/2009, -0/+5@thechr0nic
You are partly correct, in a bassackwards sort of way.
"the report cites marijuana as the top cash crop in 12 states and among the top three cash crops in 30.
The study estimates that marijuana production, at a value of $35.8 billion, exceeds the combined value of corn ($23.3 billion) and wheat ($7.5 billion)." - m3th0dm4n, on 02/02/2009, -0/+5Three... HUNDRED for a quarter oz?
- fickip, on 02/03/2009, -0/+5because thats the only way it will become legal.
- meed, on 02/03/2009, -0/+5If the US would legalize pot, the mexican marijuana cartels and their crap-tastic product would cease to exist. If anyone has smoked that crap and then smoked some of the stuff grown in the states that is properly cared for and cured you would know what the hell I am talking about.
- PacificStandard, on 02/02/2009, -3/+7I wouldn't be smoking that ditch weed.
- wishninja, on 02/02/2009, -3/+7Good and bad because as long as the Mexicans are doing all the fighting for our right to consume we not doing any of it ourselves. The time to fight is now so join one of the many movements and get involved.
- Hetman, on 02/02/2009, -0/+4No one said that. Will dougs55 kind of did. I am just saying regardless of what you do eventually they are going to have to make there own decisions. Are you going to disown them if they begin smoking?
- mmittimm, on 02/02/2009, -1/+5This isn't news. News has to be new.
- Firstdaughter, on 02/03/2009, -0/+4Because our deficit is unimaginably huge and we have a bunch of baby boomers hitting retirement with zero funds. Basically our government is broke and money would be the motivator.
- dougs55, on 02/02/2009, -0/+4Heck with worrying about kids smoking it. I've seen my friends tell their kids that they'll have to go live in foster care if they rat their parents out. :)
