- lnf69, on 03/07/2008, -13/+96Good for her!!!! That took guts. I admire here courage.
- TymonBrown, on 03/07/2008, -5/+54This takes so much goddamn courage. I can just imagine the atmosphere in the venue changing immediately from adoration, to a chilly silence. Goddamn, she's so ***** badass.
- Gardimus, on 03/07/2008, -2/+50I can't wait for all the protests to free Tibet during the Olympics.
- Crazysticks, on 03/07/2008, -9/+50Bjork is an amazing artist and a genuinely good caring person.
All you nay-sayers on here can go suck the next american idol's genitals. - gak001, on 03/07/2008, -5/+43Free Tibet!!!
- danielonoda, on 03/07/2008, -3/+40I love Bjork.
- annmed, on 03/07/2008, -5/+41Good for her. It doesn't really help the people in Tibet, but at least it keeps the issue in front of the rest of the world. If only the Tibetans had something the rest of us valued, like oil, there would be some hope for them.
- 1721, on 03/07/2008, -2/+31Free Tibet...with purchase of equal or lesser Tibet
- ToMZiLLA, on 03/07/2008, -9/+37
Hello, China? I think I have something you may want, but it's gonna cost you....that's right--all the tea. - draegloth, on 03/07/2008, -3/+31yeah, a lot of my friends are blathering idiots, too..
- sk11, on 03/07/2008, -10/+36You know what would upset the Chinese people complaining about this more, how about some country violently invading them?
- scoottie, on 03/07/2008, -3/+27They were able to understand her?
- SeaweedWater, on 03/07/2008, -4/+27I would do so many unforgivable things to marry that crazy broad.
- protogenxl, on 03/07/2008, -4/+27Free Tibet? I'll take it!---Hello, is that China? Yes, I have something that you may be interested in, but it'll cost you..Yes, all the tea!
- nalimca, on 03/07/2008, -2/+23Now she needs to come to the US and say some thing about freeing Iraq.
- katrayun, on 03/07/2008, -1/+22Uh... nice. You realize it's her given name, not a stage name, and is in fact a common Icelandic name. Damn those people and their funny talk!
- jmkiii, on 03/07/2008, -1/+21If you are going to call someone AN idiot, you should use correct grammar.
- idontlikeyou2, on 03/07/2008, -6/+26I never understood the Chinese (or for any other country) and the sense of national identify that is tied to the oppression of another region that has no personal effect on them other than "feelings". Idiots.
- omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 03/07/2008, -1/+20if anything, Bjork is still a badass!
- Emnsta, on 03/07/2008, -4/+23Japan?
Rape of Nanjing?
Unit 731?
None of these come to mind? - Hangly, on 03/07/2008, -1/+18I'm kind of worried about what might happen here (in China) during and after the Olympics. I have never seen so many people so pumped about anything in my entire life. There are a lot of people here staking their whole lives and careers on what happens this summer.
They think the Olympics will mean they will finally earn the same status and respect as every other first-world nation, and they think it will somehow magically create tons and tons of cash for them. Housing prices in northeast China have gone up 50%-100% just in the last two years in anticipation.
What's going to happen when the games generate more criticism than respect, the expected wealth doesn't materialize, and their housing bubble collapses because of their irrational exuberance? It's going to be a massive loss of face for them, and they're going to be really goddamn cranky. - pearlygate, on 03/07/2008, -0/+16like the US?
- SaladCactusKing, on 03/07/2008, -0/+16Wellp, China won't be inviting her back..
- absurdist, on 03/07/2008, -2/+18Bjork, Bjork, Bjork, Bjork.
-The Swedish Chef - mythicflux, on 03/07/2008, -2/+17Funny thing is that your argument inherently makes China position on Tibet even more absurd. China, who in modern history, was conquered violently by a neighbor gets pissed off when someone questions why they are occupying another country.
- jerrycan, on 03/07/2008, -1/+16The rest of the world is busy sucking the greasy ***** of the chinese gov't for the olympics. WTF? Governments with balls should be talking about boycott (not for Tibet though...)
- themacx, on 03/07/2008, -3/+18Hello world we got something too..it's called "made in china"...
so may'be we should do something to and stop buying their stuff and atleast not watch the olympics. - tc88888888, on 03/07/2008, -2/+16Other than Tibet, name another country that china has invade in the past 600 years.
compare that with US, UK, Japan, Germany, France, Russia... all our so called friends. - ShrimpCrackers, on 03/07/2008, -0/+13Note to Chinese History Revisionists (and JerryParid):
1) Nations paying tribute to an ancient threatening Chinese kingdom does not equal you owning the land today (Tibet, India, Mongolia, Korea).
2) Owning a small area in history does not mean you own the entire land or region around it today (Taiwan, Vietnam, Russia, Japan).
3) Lands ruled by ancient empires that aren't even considered truly Chinese by your own textbooks, is not your property today (Qing Dynasty for instance, same reason why the UK does not own the USA).
4) Defacing historical artifacts (Koguryo Kingdom of Korea) and then removing them from history and claiming that they were a Chinese kingdom in your textbooks does not make it true. - Hangly, on 03/07/2008, -6/+18Not to go all tu quoque on you, but where are the Americans petitioning to return Hawaii to the Hawaiians, Oklahoma to the Native Americans, Florida to the Spanish and the Southwest to the Mexicans?
Rather hypocritical to be sitting on all that conquered land and still find a way to browbeat the Chinese. At least China legitimately controlled Tibet for a while during the Yuan and Ming dynasties. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -4/+16There's definitely no logic to human behavior.
- theaceoffire, on 03/07/2008, -4/+15Shee is an example to use all, and both here and here family should be proud.
- bitcloud, on 03/07/2008, -1/+12We should all wear brown trousers and white shoes...
anyone attempting to try anything new is narcissistic... I would prefer if Bjork was just a digg user commenting about how narcissistic everyone else was rather than a phenomenally talented, brave and inventive musician. - chenjudy64, on 03/07/2008, -4/+15An equally lame friend of mine once said... "Free Tibet!? Then how do all those ***** casinos make money?"
- peterg7, on 03/07/2008, -2/+12Agreed.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 03/07/2008, -0/+10Yeah I'm thread-jacking here, but wanted to remind the huge masses of apologists for the Chinese government here, that despite China claiming improvement in Tibet... look what they did in 2006 after they shot up those Tibetans.
"Chinese diplomats in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu are tracking down and trying to silence hundreds of Western climbers and Sherpas who witnessed the killing of Tibetan refugees on the Nangpa La mountain pass last week."
Then China claimed that the Tibetans were somehow attacking the soldiers:
"The soldiers tried to persuade the group to go back home, according to Xinhua, which was citing an unnamed Tibetan government official. "But the stowaways refused and attacked the soldiers," Xinhua said."
http://www.getoutdoors.com/goblog/index.php?/archi ... - ZenMojo, on 03/07/2008, -1/+11Hey, China, welcome to the global consciousness! If they think that's bad, wait until until the ***** Olympics.
- typicalusername, on 03/07/2008, -28/+37A good friend of mine once said... "Free Tibet!? Well, pick up a ***** rifle and free it yourself!"
- mrcoderga, on 03/07/2008, -2/+11Support the troops
- omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 03/07/2008, -0/+9china's been quite the empire over the past 4000 years.
- shadowofleaves, on 03/07/2008, -1/+10Good for her, she has more balls than most musicians.
- Thefatheroftime, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8I really looked at this sentence for a good 2 minutes.
The bad grammar and mis-words are almost overpowering.
I think I have it tho...
"The PRC will be put to the test during the Olympics over Tibet." - funkyjunk3, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8After the 1200s there were MANY factions that subsequently invaded and controlled Tibet, not just Chinese. Mongolians, Dzungars, and others controlled Tibet for long periods of time. Tibet was also independent for a good while with its own Dalai Lama rulers. So no, Tibet didn't just fold into the China's fold and stay there. It's been invaded, counter invaded and controlled by many groups other than China over the last 800 years.
- Hangly, on 03/07/2008, -0/+8I don't need two Tibets though. Can I exchange my free Tibet for a free Mumia?
- benighted, on 03/07/2008, -4/+11Has any of you ever been to tibet?
- theskyisblue, on 03/07/2008, -1/+8you guys go tell him! why don't you go fix the problem in iraq and afghanistan while you're at it too... or is that a no-no cause they are "bad guys"?
- warpbackspin, on 03/07/2008, -0/+7Really? You can't figure out what yelling "Tibet" at the end of a song called "Declare Independence" means?
- wendelgee2, on 03/07/2008, -1/+8Is that your professional opinion, Professor?
- ShrimpCrackers, on 03/07/2008, -0/+7Countries invaded by China in the last 50 years (China calls these "Preemptive Defensive Attacks"):
Vietnam, Russia, Taiwan (yes you guys did in fact try to invade a few times), India, and MORE!
