- nullcodes, on 09/08/2008, -2/+33He has experience .. with being corrupt. During Banzir's rule .. he was known for taxing businesses illegally .. ie, having his thugs drive up to businesses and extort them for cash much like the mafia but on a MUCH larger scale. This effectively prevented entrepreneurs from starting up and pretty much truined the country.
This guy ruined pakistan with his open theft and suppression of competition. He's an enemy of free markets and consumer choice.
Some believe he may have had a hand in the death of his own wife Benazir. - AK911Carrera, on 09/08/2008, -3/+28Pakistan, get ready to go bankrupt.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+18As a pakistani, I'll tell you one thing. Violence will go WAY up! :'(
I hope it doesn't but it seems this way because Musharraf ruled with that Iron fist..... - cromptonenator, on 09/08/2008, -2/+19He was known as "Mr 10%" he was so terrible. And Bhutto only used him to please the Muslim Clerics of Pakistan.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+13to all those comparing palin to zardari!....Palin would be about a ***** gazillion times better than this corrupt bigot zardari!
- GhandicapXRS, on 09/08/2008, -6/+18Even tough your statement is technically true, expect to be dugg down very fast and hard :P
The politics of Digg are very harsh on those who don't fall in line. - brstilson, on 09/08/2008, -2/+13You're right, the same thing DID happen in America, in the election of 1860 in fact. That year, the newly-formed Republican Party nominated someone who's only political experience was one term in the House of Representatives. That man, as you may have guessed, was Abraham Lincoln. So here in America, we have quite a good history with those with "little experience."
- nullcodes, on 09/08/2008, -0/+8In addition to preventing businesses from operating or competing with his own, or his favored ones (those paying him extortion money).. he would steal assets and sell off natural resources of the country. He ruined the countries' credit and prevented the economy from expanding just having his wife in power was enough for him to do this.
This is a very corrupt person, expect major theft of assets and the denial of free market economics in favor of inefficient industries owned by Zardari and paid for by national resource sale/theft and taxation.
He will also likely be bad for security as he will effectively "play both sides".
I am hoping his years away from Pakistan have changed him for the better or at least mellowed him out.. but who knows. - mitikomon, on 09/08/2008, -7/+15how?! he was so corrupted.
- Smogtdi, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asif_Ali_Zardari
Criminal charges and allegations
In 1990, Zardari was arrested on charges of blackmail, based on allegations that he attached a bomb to a Pakistani businessman, Murtaza Bukhari, and forced him to withdraw money from his bank account.[1]
He was kept in custody from 1997 to 2004 on charges ranging from corruption to murder. He was granted bail and released in November 2004 when a judge released Zardari under great pressure. However, he was re-arrested on 21 December 2004 after his failure to attend a hearing in a murder trial in Karachi.
Former leader of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, wrote that he found Zardari "a likable rogue" who tried to impress with chatter about his real estate and export deals.
Zardari's nickname "Mr. 10 Percent" stems from accusations that he took a cut from government contracts while his wife Benazir Bhutto was in office. - norman619, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6mwaleed:
You can't reason with the rabid supporters of Obama here on Digg. The fact they even thought the two are in any way similar is proof of their derangement. - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5your doing it rong
- RAGEdemon, on 09/08/2008, -0/+53 words which my fellow citezens *should* have kept in memory:
"Mr. Ten Percent"
This is a sad day in pakistan History. Quaiday Azam will have turned in his grave. - xsecretfiles, on 09/08/2008, -1/+6Dropping Dead in 1...2............
- EndouOuto, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5Or Obama?
- tonyteetime, on 09/08/2008, -24/+28 "politician with little experience", was elected president of Pakistan.
Hmm .. sounds like the same thing in America . Politician with "little experience" getting nominated for presidency. I won't mention any names :-) - EndouOuto, on 09/08/2008, -0/+4So this US and Pakistan have a lot in common
with regards to their choices of leaders - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5I question the wisdom of this emotional pick. Pakistan needs someone who is outside of the usual political hubbub. This will only continue the squabbling between Bhutto supporters and everyone else.
- ASSASSYN360, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3It was all part of the plan...
- ronaldinho, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4"A survey by Gallup Pakistan showed a lack of enthusiasm for the presidential candidates, with 44 percent of the respondents saying that they did not approve of any of the candidates."
I'm not surprised but still displeased that the politicians out there totally do not get in touch with the actual world. There is practically no voice speaking on behalf for lots of people - bobGratton, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4I agree, i find it to be quite ironic
- Shuk, on 09/08/2008, -6/+9Jeez people not everything has to do with the United States and Sarah Palin!
- gn0stik, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3We were waiting for the assassination story. Didn't want to celebrate prematurely.
- oldhick, on 09/08/2008, -2/+5So what defines a puppet these days... From the Georgian president to this corrupt a-hole, everyone on Digg calls anyone friendly to the US a puppet, even if they were democratically elected. But they call Chavez, who has secret police and a state controlled media which he uses as a personal propaganda machine, a populist.
Whet evidence is there that Bhutto or Saakashvili is a puppet of the US? - Kewlduderules, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3I am not sure why you are being down voted (maybe because people don't know him) but it has been known for years that her husband would swindle money from business entities, manipulate transnational corporations for personal gain, and bride politicians to his favor. He is not well liked in the international business community. This has been established for some time.
- thelastwarrior, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3Zardari ... thug to thugnificient
- Jewbacca311, on 09/08/2008, -2/+5I can tell by your attitude that you are not even old enough to vote yet. Please go back to flipping burgers.
- Arkons24, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2Hopefully he is better at Russian Roulette than his wife is.
- ss180, on 09/08/2008, -4/+6Who cares? The world doesn't revolve around America.
- Stormwern, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2"widow" - woman, "widower" - man
- NCSD, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2back then the democratic party was in favor of slaves also
its kind of irrelevant but its interesting - hwy9nightkid, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2Oldhick, anyone I talk to in person knows how corrupted Mr. 10% was. When I read this article I was shocked, because in his home country he was nearly thrown out. He's never been friendly with the US, just willing to take exile in Britain. Stop defending someone you don't understand, but have pegged all hopes on.
I hope he doesn't sell those nuclear devices to the Taliban - HonestAbe, on 09/08/2008, -3/+5I thought she was nominated for Vice President. Did they finally switch the ballot around?
She does, after all, have more *executive* experience than all the other candidates combined... - tonyteetime, on 09/08/2008, -2/+4It's the unpopular view that we must fight hard to protect when it comes to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech guarantees that unpopular view will be protected.
Getting the truth out is my main objective. Getting dugg down due to my unpopular view is the least of my worries :-) - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2obama graduated from harvard as president of the law review. this guy is an illiterate crook who stole all of pakistan's money.
- gn0stik, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Are you still counting?
- afruff23, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Abe Lincoln was also one of the first outright tyrants with his total war. Just saying...
- openhash, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1The worst part about Zardari and its party PPP is that they claim to bring democracy to the country, yet its not a democratic party in its very nature. It got its root in feudal system and is now a combination of fedualy inherited democracy. Like After death of Butto, PPP transfered to Benazir Butto, after her death now is Zardari and in the waiting list is his son and two daughters who will get inherited democracy. Benazir told "Democracy is best revenge for your personel/family matters", coz in true democracy none gets selected chairperson of a party for life and that too without election.
- tallulahvulture, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1there is no hope for pakistan anymore
she was killed - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2I'd rather have 5 years of total war than legalized slavery.
- sjinadasa, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1They made Musharaff resign to elect this bastard ? Good Luck Pakistan, you will need it.
- afruff23, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1@singularityv
So you think the lives of some are more important than others? How can you justify this belief? - theviceroy, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1and "widowmaker" - horse
- seraph582, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2Nope - this guy's the *presidential* no-experience candidate equivalent, not the veep no-experience presidential candidate. Whoops - that makes him OBAMA
- mohammadahsan, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1the *****.... i thought her incompetent son was going to take over the family business of deception and theft? Unfortunate turn of events for pakistanis, maybe the new army general will throw Zardari's ass out
- shortyjacobs, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1@afruff, don't be an *****....the soldiers had a choice, the slaves didn't.
- oldhick, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Charlie Wilson was a Republican? Truman was a Republican? Kennedy was a Republican?
Don't be an idiot. Both parties mess with other countries. -
