- the11ave, on 10/11/2007, -3/+57Unfortunately the picture that world sees from Iran, is some bearded angry guys who set american flag on fire. But this is not what Iranian people are. Iranian people love poems, they love to dance and they are very friendly to the strangers. They are sort of hostages in the hand of cleric hardliners.
- CaptainSponge, on 10/11/2007, -10/+47An interesting fact is Iran is what used to be known as Persia.
The photos are a refreshing change of scene in the area. - barakatx2, on 10/11/2007, -11/+35Umm, land doesn't transform itself to be ugly just because there might be evil people controlling it. Why would anyone be surprised that a country has beautiful places?
- TheNapalm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21not to get all Biblical but that area(old Persia) along with Iraq(Babylon) have some of the most beautiful architecture and scenery in the world.
- thepeacemaker, on 10/11/2007, -7/+27Check out this hilarious Iranian stand up comic guy talking about how Iranian Americans like to be called "Persians" ..."Weeeere harmless like the Peeeersiaaan cat...meow". He was on Jay Leno too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIPJeLN16NI - antique, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20are you implying that Iran is not beautiful to begin with? I've been to Iran, and the countrysides are honestly the most beautiful sights i've ever seen.
- tidu, on 10/11/2007, -12/+31Don't you see the nuclear missiles in the background?!! And that boy swimming in the pool, he's got explosives strapped to his pants!
Bombs away... - drobati, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20I'm Persian, but I know that its not just Iran thats beautiful. Its the whole ***** planet that has such wondrous beauties to see. The sad thing is that these beauties won't last forever if people keep treating our planet the way it has been treated.
- robdowns, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18If you would pay a little more attention to world events, you would know that there is freedom to practice whatever faith you choose in Iran. And (GASP!) there are many, many people who protest in Iran for change. Hell, there were, in recent years, protests to formalize relations with the U.S.
Quit being part of the problem of propagating these false claims. - john95127, on 10/11/2007, -8/+22Take a good look, this ***** is gonna be bombed.
- andrew47, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15REALLY REALLY beautiful - breathtaking
- dukeeeey, on 10/11/2007, -10/+23Iran is a beautiful place, but Bush wants to 'nuke it till it glows'.
- Bhima, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15There are Jew living in Iran with no problems... It's not the Jews that Iran has a problem with, it's the Zionist political movement.
- dsendecki, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14...except New Jersey
- tokyomonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I can relate, being an Iranian American. I was born, and raised in the US, and my mother is from Ohio, but I try to avoid mentioning it when possible because I'm afraid someones going to freak out. Though it is great to see people ask about my last name.."Where is that from? German? Polish?" "Iranian" "....Oh...yeah..."
- borninda818, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15I like turtles
- CheckPlease, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10And, if Bush has his way, ends.
- woojoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Anyone got a mirror?
- duggtodeath, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16What about our dictator?
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13America invaded Iraq in 2006? That's news to me.
- quakenul, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10http://www.duggmirror.com
EDIT: Unfortunately, too late for duggmirror.
However, Coral got it: http://www.trekearth.com.nyud.net:8080/gallery/Middle_East/Iran/ - SirBotchness, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Iran is where civilization began.
- Magillicutti, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9So you posted an idiotic comment to demonstrate?
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Enjoy the scenery while it lasts.
- AriaStar, on 10/11/2007, -14/+21Since Bush wants us to think of Iran as a barren waste land that only produces terrorists, I doubt he'd like this.
Especially the first pic showing two small children. Precious things. Just for them I want to whoop Bush's ass. - kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7For some reason people like to spout that sort of crap.
Iran is a very tollerant country when it comes to others beliefs. In fact Islam as a whole is very tollerant. Mohammed wrote that those who don't believe in Islam should be free to build, maintain and use buildings for woship. They should not be interfeared with, but if they wish to convert they should be welcomed.
Just because a few nut jobs have given Islam a bad name doesn't make it an evil religion, anymore than christians are all evil because of the fundamentalists.
the biggest problem America has is its blind. If you learned about other countries and faiths, you would see that people around the world are pretty much all the same regardless of faith. Every country has its nut jobs, if your view of a whole country is made up on the basis of a few extremists then your a moron. - robdowns, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Who said it was a utopia? I'm not familiar with that Kazemi case you cited, however, and I'm assuming you're American at this point, we've had our own problems with torture lately. Is the U.S. a "utopia?"
- Warrzie, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9WOW JUST WOW
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Your just upset because he isn't an American placed Dictator.
America has destroyed a number of democracies in the middle east and africa and installed dictators that are US friendly. Anyone ever hear of Saddam? - Vicujozobenaxod, on 10/11/2007, -9/+15Operation Digg: Change the perspective on Iran as a peaceful country that should not be harmed.
- tokyomonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Zoroastrian, they worshiped the sun, and it's one of the first religions ever.
- FongoBongo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I've lived in Iran and its not like that. Just keep believing what certain people want you to believe. Already you have polarized Iran by saying "its like that over there." For ***** sake, we live in more of a democracy than America. Long live Bush the Tyrant!
- CRASSPUNXTEXHTV, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7"Try being a Jew Christian or Atheist in Iran," actually Judaism and Christianity are both religions that are practiced in iran ,I know Jewish and Christian iranies who have lived in iran comfortably, The people of iran aren't really that religious and they don't really care, its actually mostly to governments fault.
- nobody98, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Pakistan is another extremely beatiful country... Shame the tourism industry is highly undeveloped there. I had the good fortune of travelling extensively in Pakistan. I was very humbled. Didn't expect it to be as gorgeous as it was.
- Kallius, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Well, the site ended up getting bombed. It's down already.
- dbw42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Mirror: http://www.trekearth.com.nyud.net:8080/gallery/Middle_East/Iran/
- wishninja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's not all mud huts like the as the neo-cons say?
- Mattintosh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Sounds like a universal problem to me... I'm a rather peaceful American.
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -3/+710 Internets if anyone can name a pre-Islamic Persian religion without looking it up!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Very nice photos, unfortunately if Israel wants us fighting Iran, that's where our tax dollars will burn. It's interesting how our foreign policy can be reasonably predicted based on what Israel wants. Such is the power of AIPAC and campaign donations that fund fully 50% of both Republicans and Democrats. Israeli billionaire Haim Saban is the biggest single donator to US politicians.
- theblooms, on 10/11/2007, -17/+21Oh, by 'some people' you mean like their INSANE leaders, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Ayatollah Khamenei? These same people who are outright Holocaust deniers, and the same people who Amnesty International claims that dissidents who oppose the government non-violently face harassment, torture and execution?
Bush may not be the best President we have ever had, and he may be ***** up this war, but he doesn't do ANYTHING like what theses asshats do. Rape victims in the US aren't stoned to death for not resisting enough, and we actually have freedom here. Try being a Jew Christian or Atheist in Iran, and see where that gets you. Try staging protests against the government or the Mullahs in the streets.
The US has problems, for sure, but don't white-wash the MASSIVE problems Iran has.
That said, it is a physically beautiful country. - ronh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Well ***** let's get over there and free those people like we freed the Iraqis. There is oil in Iran right? Ok great.
- tokyomonster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Uh...Iran is a peaceful country...it's the leaders of the government that are crazy *****.
- Leomarth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Good job guys. There was also Mithra, but he was, as far as I know, imported to Persia from India also. The Romans ended up forming a cult around Mithras because he was a soldier God. *sings* On-ward Mithra-ic soldiers! *sings* He was also known as Sol Invictus to the Romans; the "Invicible Sun", and many people attribute early Christian stories as having been adapted from Mithraic stories.
Still, I wonder why I got dugg down for asking this question. - SpikeZ, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Where are their horns and hoofs? Bush you lied to me!!
- kooft, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Good stuff, thanks for the link!
- nikkilai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Seriously. It's not called the "cradle of civilization" for nothing.
- tokyomonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The guys a puppet that couldn't do that if he tried. There's a series of checks and balances in place that prevent him from doing that. The only thing he can do is run his mouth, so he takes advantage of that.
- synod, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Uhh... Zoroastrian-atians? I'm in knowing stuff club too.
- tokyomonster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3They likely were wearing those to begin with, not being stopped, and then told to wear them. And they're wearing them because they live in an Islamic state. I don't see how any of those pictures back up your claims that women are taken and re-educated.
