- axiomo, on 05/06/2008, -8/+79The real results of applying Scientology's crackpot psychotherapy (called "auditing") actually weaken the mind. The mind goes from a rational state to an irrational one as the delusional contents of the subconscious mind are brought to the surface and are assumed to be valid. It also makes a person more susceptible to suggestion since it submerges the critical thinking faculties of the mind into a partial subconscious state. It results in a permanent light hypnotic trance and so from thenceforth that person can be more easily controlled. The person will, to a much greater extent, believe and do whatever they are told. And of course this is used to the full in persuading them to hand over further money and dedicating themselves further to the cult.
The results of applying their oversimplified and inapplicable rules in life is to lose the ability to think rationally and logically. A person loses the ability to think for themselves and so they lose the ability to challenge incorrect ideas. This makes them easier to control. It also isolates and alienates the person from society so that they withdraw from normal society and into their "Scientology" society. This further increases their susceptibility to the influence of their group. They end up being afraid of society, believing all society to be controlled by a group of drug companies, psychiatrists and financiers all of whom report to more remote masters. In other words they are in a state of mass paranoia. They therefore avoid reading newspapers and the like since they fear it will disturb their safe Scientology world. It is a downward spiral into madness.
The science fiction content of Scientology is revealed to them after they have reached the state they call "Clear", meaning freed from the aberrations of the mind. However, perhaps "brainwashed" would be a more applicable word to describe the mental state of someone who has survived the near entire delusional contents of their subconscious mind brought to the surface and presented to them as "truth". On the "advanced" levels (called OT levels) above the state of "Clear" they encounter the story of Xenu. Xenu was supposed to have gathered up all the overpopulation in this sector of the galaxy, brought them to Earth and then exterminated them using hydrogen bombs. The souls of these murdered people are then supposed to infest the body of everyone. They are called "body thetans". On the advanced levels of Scientology a person "audits out" these body thetans telepathically by getting them to re-experience their being exterminated by hydrogen bombs. So people on these levels assume all their bad thoughts and faulty memories are due to these body thetans infesting every part of their body and influencing them mentally. Many Scientologists go raving mad at this point if they have not done so already.

- PrometheusPV, on 05/06/2008, -4/+51ohh my picture sucks... what should i do...*Coverts to Grayscale*
- swantonamobay, on 05/06/2008, -1/+43It masks the cheeto dust stains.
- CYG101, on 05/06/2008, -9/+42I would go to this protest just to wear the "V" mask
- cyrix, on 05/06/2008, -3/+33Guy Fawkes. Not V.
- froston, on 05/06/2008, -5/+34Just turning them Black and white isn't exactly beautful...but nice pics none the less.
- alittleroy101, on 05/06/2008, -6/+31I am missing the beauty
- RAEP, on 05/06/2008, -1/+25This venture no longer has anything to do with 4chan. Most 4channers think that protestfags are stupid.
- Brabus, on 05/06/2008, -2/+22The next time your around a bunch of scientolgist yell out "CLEAR" and watch what happens.

Come on down and have some cake! - Hangly, on 05/06/2008, -1/+19Those masks just aren't the same without the hat and wig.
- treed, on 05/06/2008, -0/+15Except that there are other Guy Fawkes masks that don't look quite like that. These masks are specifically V masks.
- Anonchrist, on 05/06/2008, -0/+14GIVE YOUR SUPPORT
If you want to talk about persecution, you should realize that the article says the protester were falsely charged with a crime during the protest. (manipulation of the judicial system anyone)
Do not pull out the PC ideology of saying that ideas can go unchecked by opposing thought because they are protected by the word religion or that they deserved to be wrongly arrested. - Mejari, on 05/06/2008, -0/+13I hope never to be around a bunch of scientologists, but if I am you can bet your ass I'll be doing this.
- robalesi, on 05/06/2008, -5/+18I would have preferred Sepia.
- briguymaine, on 05/06/2008, -1/+14exactly, black & white = beautiful?
- Bapho, on 05/06/2008, -2/+14that's right, the movement is bigger than 4chan and /b/ now. And there is little anyone can do about it.
- treed, on 05/06/2008, -0/+12You don't need anonymity to protest the Pope. Anonymous is needed elsewhere.
- jakefloyd, on 05/06/2008, -2/+14The masks are a safety precaution. BTW, what have you been doing?

- makemoneynotart, on 05/06/2008, -0/+9I live right by there, I wish I would have seen this happening, I would have shot (video) their shoot and asked some questions. Whilst wearing my own mask of course. =]
- slowz3r, on 05/06/2008, -13/+22hail
- citizenchan, on 05/06/2008, -1/+10I wouldn't say these are beautiful photos. Black and White doesn't make something beautiful automatically. They aren't necessarily that beautfiul for the content either, as there were, what, 6 protestors?
- xaogypsie, on 05/06/2008, -1/+9Good read, thanks for the link.
- fakunderground, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8CoS = cancer.
- Anonchrist, on 05/06/2008, -1/+8I wouldn't want to live in a world that didn't challenge every idea, nor one that would assault others for them.
Scientology is guilty of offending both of these principles and the protesters are innocent of committing both. - KlogereEndGrim, on 05/06/2008, -0/+7Get Catbus out of Digg!
- travis1982, on 05/06/2008, -0/+7What the hell are those cops riding??? Is that a turret on the handle bars? I'm so confused...and scared. Where's Robocop when ya need him.
- Allibaster, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6Agreed. Random B&W is not beauty. My dog can take these pictures.
- carterbaldwin, on 05/06/2008, -1/+7Oh hey like three comments have already said this. Oh well, digg me down.

- axiomo, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6For those of you who may not understand why Scientology protesters are masked: The "Church" of Scientology has a very long history of allocating massive resources to investigate, intimidate, harass and destroy critics of the church. Honestly, what "religion" has their own intelligence agency?
As Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard put it, enemies of Scientology "may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed."
Scientology hated author Paulette Cooper so much they sent *themselves* forged bomb threats, purportedly from Cooper, using her typewriter and paper with her fingerprints on it; further plans included bomb threats to be sent to Henry Kissinger. Their plans were foiled when the FBI raided their offices in 1977.
Hubbard was convinced that critics of Scientology were part of a vast global conspiracy against him and his organization. He felt these enemies had to be destroyed using any means possible.
Here is a detailed (and annotated) article about the origins of Scientology's Fair Game Doctrine and Scientology's Intelligence activities...

- axiomo, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5Azunbar,
The main criticism with Scientology is not with its followers, but with the organization itself. Jumping to the conclusion of "religious intolerance" or "bigotry" is a common response Scientologists themselves latch onto (and hide behind) rather than directly address some very valid criticism.
You -- or anyone else -- wondering why Scientology is an especially dangerous and volatile "modern religion" would benefit from reading TIME Magazine's exposé on Scientology.

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,9 ... - richporter, on 05/06/2008, -1/+6The "stupid" masks hide their identities so the "Church" of Scientology cannot take legal action against them for being critical of their practices and policies. It has nothing to do with theatrics. You need to school yourself before you make comments like this.
