For anyone who doesn't know, The Express specialises in front-page headlines that fill the whole page, always designed to provoke howls of apopleptic rage in middle-aged Middle England, and usually along the lines of "BRITAIN TO BE OVERRUN BY SWARMS OF ROMANIAN GYPSIES!" (actually a real headline from a few months back), or "BLAIR TO CLAIM RIGHTS TO YOUR FIRST-BORN!" (ok, I exaggerated on that one). Virtually no-one actually takes it seriously.

I wouldn't be so quick to look down your nose at the Express. I was surprised to find it has the 78the largest circulation amongst the world's dailies:

Newspaper circulation is declining across the the West, but Fleet Street is doing a much better job of holding their own than newspapers in the U.S. Most of America's flagship broadsheets are losing money and shedding staff,
Reporting costs money; free societies need reporting. The internet is knocking out the traditional ways of paying for it.
The Express' solution is to cater to the editorial preference of a target market:

and push it hard on the front page:

Compare that to an an American tab:

Which paper promises you more?
The danger is, the way things are going, we're going to end up getting all of news from AP. So, Here's to the Express. We could use a shot of that attitude over here.

- PatrioticKiwi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Words fail me why Britain and Europe let these people in in the first place.
- Neo189, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree that this is a very disturbing trend, but I think that there is a large population of non-vocal moderate muslims, who are just trying to live normal lives. In other words, it's not ALL muslims who are saying these things, just a few crazy bastards. Wherever the more moderate Muslims are, they need to stand up for their religion, because it is being hijacked by extremists.
