- SheilaNoya, on 10/19/2007, -6/+96Condi's version of a "peacekeeping mission" is to continually snub anyone who disagrees with Bush's insane Mideast policies. The Pope is just giving her some of her own medicine and treating her the way she has treated others whom she refuses to meet with.
- bjkrautk, on 10/18/2007, -7/+57The article failes to provide any context. Does the Pope refuse to meet any guests at his summer residence, or just Ms. Rice? Sloppy reporting by the AFP.
If the guy wants to avoid meeting public officials on his vacation, what can you say? He's 'a the freakin' Pope. - sundancekid503, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38Rice wants peace about as much as a used car salesman wants to give you a "good deal". It is not the Pope's job to bend over for the United States and support their causes. Condi simply wanted a photo-op, she doesn't give a ***** what the Pope has to say anyways. You are painfully lost and delusioned Mairead, kudos to the Pope for not meeting with this vile woman.
- dharmaviira, on 10/17/2007, -7/+40It makes me happy to hear that the spiritual head of a religion has decided to take a month off of politics. There should be more of that.
- kufu91, on 10/17/2007, -1/+34oh my god, for a second i thought i was reading youtube comments.
- GodsGreatWork, on 10/19/2007, -13/+45The Church is definitely not silent. The Holy Father's refusal to meet with Sleezy Leezy for diplomatic purposes only illustrates his position more clearly. His silence is a powerful witness to the character of the The Church. The Pope is not a president, he's not a king, he's not a prime minister either. He is acting like a father protecting his children. Leezy is not coming for spiritual advice, she's coming to get Pope Benedict on board with whatever plans for destruction and chaos Bush and Clinton have in mind for the middle east. The Pope has also not AVOIDED or IGNORED the clergy child-abuse scandals. I am a studying seminarian for THE Church, and I can tell you - it is not ignored. What IS fact is that every move The Church in America makes moves with this question in mind: 1 How does what we do exemplify God's message and saving action, and 2 Does this affirm our promise to protect those in our care, those especially being the most vulnerable. And so what the Priesthood is celibate. I made a conscious decision to enter the seminary and study for the priesthood following my experiences in the Army and in college. I'm 29 years old and I'm more man than any married guy. We don't have gays and we don't have pedophiles and we don't have all those stupid problems we worried about when people were in charge of their churches back in the 70's and 80's. Being a priest is about being a man, a human being. It is the same for being a Pope, a father for all in the imitation of Christ. Maybe a little humility would go a long way for the critics. Honestly, trying to tell this man what he shoud do?? Don't you think he's paying attention? He's not Bush, he's not really on vacation, taking 3 months of vacation per year like Bush. He's working for your salvation and the salvation of the world. Before we can effect change on the world however, we've got to turn inward and let God change us. What Pope Benedict is doing right he is doing for all. And sometimes, silence is the LOUDEST VOICE. By ignoring her, he is affirming that Catholics are not subject to the political sway that Bush and his evil minions has cursed this United States with. The Pope is the leader, but for you all to be the follwoers, you've got to know when to shut your doggone mouths and listen. You've got two ears and one mouth, why do you think that is? How is it that you have eyes but you cannot see? Just what, as a Catholic, do you practice, besides the ruin of Christ's church on earth...
- unorginalityftw, on 10/18/2007, -4/+34I have a question. How, may I ask, would visiting the Pope boost ones diplomatic credit in the Middle East?
Just sayin'. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29mairead,
In 2003 Condi Rice herself stated that she refused to meet with (then) pope John Paul II. Benedict is just giving her a taste of her own medicine. - WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -6/+29More like we demonstrate what we have in store for Arab countries, and the Pope actually grows a spine and shows his discontent for once. We're the nazis this time around...
- nights0223, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21An eye for an eye.
- cococooky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21A father protecting his children should Kick Out The Pedophiles and report them to the police, instead of moving them from one church to another.
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18As a former Catholic with many Catholic friends I would beg to differ. I am GLAD the Pope and the Vatican will NOT speak with those who planned and executed the Iraq war. The answer to the question "Who would Jesus bomb?" Is "No-one".
If he does meet with any of the Bush government or former Bush government officials, it should be to ask them to stop claiming they are on Gods side. - supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16***** Dr. Rice. She has blood on her hands, the Pope may have just been too busy to help her with her photo shoot or whatever reason she wanted a picture with him, but I would bet he just isnt interested in helping the Bush administration in any way with their evil deeds and destroying of America and it's constitution.
***** Rice, ***** Bush. Restore America. Impeach, Imprison.
If anyone from the Bush administration is reading my comment, please SUCK YOURSELF. - CaptainLando, on 10/19/2007, -2/+16"I'm 29 years old and I'm more man than any married guy."
This sentence alone should be enough to show you that you are headed toward the pit of pride. Please examine your spirit if you are going to join the priesthood. Do not think that I am coming down on you because I struggle with the same problem often.
Also I do not believe Christ himself would resort to calling Mrs. Rice "Sleezy Leezy." The whole of your comment though possibly written with emotion does not show the love of Christ in an appealing form. - cococooky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16If you want to write a book, don't do it here please.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Time for a new video game... Americanstein 3D, with a mechanical Bush headed cyborg as final boss.
- delrin500, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13what did u expect them to say "***** you Condi"??? It was the nicest way to refuse the meeting. you are amazingly retarded.
- NickMilne, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13The Catholic Church was *not* "silent" as Jews were massacred. Google "Mit Brennender Sorge," for starters, and then settle in for a long, long night of reading, because you're going to need at least that to get through the testimonials from grateful Jews, let alone the accounts of clerics involved or those simply observing. It is not prudent to base your view of history on the dubious and retarded "facts" contained in a play written as Soviet propaganda and then taken up as truth by successive generations of bigots. Rolf Hochhuth is not a reputable source. Israel Zolli, however - the Chief Rabbi of Rome during the war, who was so moved by Pius XII's endless efforts on behalf of his people during the war that he converted to Catholicism thereafter, taking the Pope's name ("Eugenio") as his baptismal name - might be more reputable. His is just one voice among thousands raised in thanks, but you'd never know it to hear people go on. It's a shame that what "everybody knows" has trumped what was actually the case.
- zeusthemoose, on 10/19/2007, -1/+12You sir, are truly an idiot.
- esotericguy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16dont worry, we dont miss you either!
- watcht, on 10/17/2007, -6/+16Yea Pope...don't sell out to those evil politicians!
- Wacer, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15Rice is a Bitch anyway. Does anybody remember the story of her balling out a salesperson and telling her she was trash because she makes minimum wage. She doesn't care about people and poor people in general.
- saltmiser, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16I'm agnostic, but this still truly is a burn, go Benedict!
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/19/2007, -5/+13Makes the whole world blind.
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Dugg down for not keeping it short and sweet.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10I knew this was going to be political, sensationalist slop the second I read it. And I knew there were going to be a million retarded digger speculation because they always fail to read and investigate and article first... Jesus... What's wrong with you people!
And you make fun of 9/11 truthers??? Give me a break. - chiggah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Wonder if Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson will accuse the pope to be a racist now.
- fisticuffs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8This is story is so misleading, the pope is on vacation. *****, I'm a nobody and I wouldn't pause my vacation to meet with Condi Rice either...
- cococooky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7If it was written by you, no chance in hell.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Burried for wall of text.
- grr74, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Condi and peace is like oil and holy water.
- lucid270, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7clownfart penis
- T8erT0T, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Bro, this is digg. You are allowed, at most, 8 sentences or 2 paragraphs worth 4 sentences. And that's pretty generous.
The guiding rule of Digg brought to you by Dave Chapelle: "Wrap It Up B" - blackbeardtron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Buried for not citing sources, and generally being a sensationalist pile of garbage. If any of you were asked to work while you were on vacation, you'd refuse too. There is nothing political or interesting or newsworthy in this article. GARBAGE.
- NickMilne, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Yeah, you are indeed retarded. Also (in the interests of completeness, even if it's complete *****), "the blacks" are not the Canaanites (spell it right). The tribe you're thinking of is that of the *****; Canaanites (and Egyptians, who were along with the other two tribes the notable "sons of Ham" that Noah cursed) were more or less indistinguishable from the swarthy Hebrews. The *****, on the other hand, were established further south in the African continent, and they were indeed known for their black skin. I seem to recall that Moses marries a ***** at one point (his second wife, if memory serves), and some comments are made about it by those around him because she's so obviously One of Them. In any event, God ordered the Israelites to kill the Canaanites, but as we are not ancient Israelites and there are no Canaanites around, trying to expand this bit of military strategy into widespread peacetime pogroms against black people seems misguided at best. Also, once again: you're retarded and need to shut your miserable racist mouth.
- ButterBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Please keep comments to three lines or less, Digg induced Attention Deficit Disorder is crippling....
- jaxcs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4then it shouldn't matter now.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Hopefully MY grandchildren wont be molested by Catholics.
- NickMilne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The pope does not draw a salary.
- Breepee, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5If you'd said "One less reason I am glad I am no longer Catholic" I'd dugg you up.
- shauncorleone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"Without citing its sources." Buried.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4seriously, did you think posting it 3 times would make people believe you?
1 time - na, *****
2 times - now i'm confused
3 times - damn it must be right, it's there 3 times? - Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Are you out of your mind?
- gopher043, on 10/19/2007, -1/+4"I'm 29 years old and I'm more man than any married guy."
I read that on a bathroom stall once. - norman619, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9You are a good company. I grew up a long time ago and shed the mental shackles otherwise known as religion.
- Pritchard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4If he met with Rice, you never know if one of these days we'll be looking at the picture of her and the pope and thinking, "He was obviously forced to meet her." - Think of the pictures of Hitler with the Pope.
- KafirGuy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6You are retarded.
- fondlesackwi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I don't necessarily hate Catholics, although the Catholic Church can blow me
- luckykpolice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, a photo op, similar to the one we denied to the president of Iran... Republican motto: it's okay when we do it!
- norman619, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That just means you lack imagination. That is all.
