- brainboy7777, on 06/21/2009, -13/+141BREAKING- THIS STORY RELEASED HOURS AGO. ALSO: CAPS LOCK IS AWESOME.
- Shogi, on 06/20/2009, -0/+72Hey dickwad, no news agency forces reporters to go, it's voluntary.
- seanthebond, on 06/20/2009, -1/+53+ ***** the Taliban
-1 ***** reporting --Which is essential to keeping civilians in the know. - aerovisor, on 06/21/2009, -3/+50Why doesn't foxnews send people to Pakistan, yet they insult newspapers like the NYT. They shout insults from their ivory tower...they are not journalists. The only reporting they do is what the opinions of their anchors are. Meanwhile, their ratings are through the roof and the NYT is getting hit. Send Hannity or o'reilly to Pakistan.
The NYT exposed the Pentagon papers, Bush wiretaps, CIA prisons in Europe. WTF has CNN/Fox/MSNBC/HuffPo done for us?
I am changing my start page from cnn.com to nyt.com - inactive, on 06/21/2009, -1/+43Was his name Tony Stark?
- Stevanoski, on 06/21/2009, -3/+41Stupid taliban.

- mac888, on 06/20/2009, -9/+34Yeah for our team! Here's hoping we have Bid Laden's head on a pike on a bridge over the beltway soon!
- DouglasQ, on 06/21/2009, -1/+21Dugg. (In spite of pluralising with an apostrophe)
- aerovisor, on 06/21/2009, -5/+20I know, FoxNews doesn't send their reporters anywhere. After all, they only thing they report is the opinions of their anchors.
Screw the NYT for uncovering the Pentagon Papers, Bush wiretaps, CIA prisons in Europe. Why do they work so hard for us?
/s - MikeRiley, on 06/21/2009, -0/+15The news kept it quiet to prevent further risk to his life. Officials suggested it when the guy was kidnapped and each news company that found out about it also kept it quiet at their request. Did you read the article before commenting?
- robweber, on 06/21/2009, -0/+14Already came to theaters, starring Robert Downey Jr.
- cygnus2112, on 06/21/2009, -2/+15Yeah, it's called the Pakistani border. Might want to check out a map sometime.
- Apokalyps2547, on 06/21/2009, -1/+12Yeah, it did release hours ago.
How long ago was it submitted to digg? 9 hours? Use your head. - MikeRiley, on 06/21/2009, -0/+11"“From the early days of this ordeal, the prevailing view among David’s family, experts in kidnapping cases, officials of several governments and others we consulted was that going public could increase the danger to David and the other hostages. The kidnappers initially said as much,” said Bill Keller,"
Taken from the article. The Taliban suggested it would endanger his life. - gaymathman, on 06/21/2009, -0/+10Don't forget the BBC; they have an even longer history of ballsy journalists. Additionally, the World Service is available in 32 languages; the BBC is like the Western world's news liaison to the rest of the world.
- inactive, on 06/21/2009, -2/+12unless he escaped them by making an armor with a box of scrap in a cave im not interested.
- vagrantwade, on 06/21/2009, -0/+8Pretty sure he meant pike.
- cckev529, on 06/21/2009, -0/+7Did he build an Ironman suit?
- oldhick, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6@Prolitarien, seriously? The taliban and Al Queda have been killing reporters for a while now. Read some news every now and then.

- ejlhp, on 06/21/2009, -0/+5Bin?
- robweber, on 06/21/2009, -0/+5I agree. Unless he constructed a giant suit powered by a power supply wired to his heart, it just isn't cool.
- Kakemonstere, on 06/21/2009, -0/+5*Iron man joke*
- hatdrop, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4if it is not clear enough: if it was reported in the news they could possibly use it as a propaganda move. you know how ridiculously crazy the population gets at news stories like this. if there was clamor about getting him back they would say: well ***** you guys we'll execute him on live tv!
- inactive, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4wrong article i think your in the wrong place. and i'm proud to say i have not taken it in the butt. maybe im the exception.
- askantik, on 06/21/2009, -0/+3Even if you were set free, wouldn't it be more awesome to say you busted out? Slashed a couple terrorist's throats with a sewing needle and lived for 3 weeks in the jungle?
- SwiftKick34, on 06/21/2009, -0/+3So now that their boy is all right they're going public but what of the one guy left behind?
- askantik, on 06/21/2009, -0/+3Why buried for "BREAKING" when he did, in fact, BREAK OUT? Muhahaha.
- Azruvian, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2DAVID ROHDE WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE
WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS - ousthouse, on 06/21/2009, -6/+8Holy crap, why didn't I know a Times reporter was kidnapped in the first place? Awesome news though.
- hatdrop, on 06/21/2009, -1/+3at least they only typed BREAKING in caps
- diggforworld, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2Reporter FTW!
- InfernoX, on 06/21/2009, -2/+4Buried for registration, seriously ***** that *****.
- gaymathman, on 06/21/2009, -1/+3They're arguably the best English-language newspaper on the planet. Giving a disposable email address and info for targeted ads really isn't asking that much to get all of their content for F-R-E-E. It also supports their journalism. I've also got to question where you get your news, if you get it at all. The BBC is also quite good, as is the Economist, although the Times has the best US news.
- huniper, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Trix are for kids.
- killcops, on 06/21/2009, -1/+2no, he doesn't.
- sciencelovesyou, on 06/21/2009, -1/+2Proclamation 5034, 21st of March, 1981:
"The tragedy of Afghanistan continues as the valiant and courageous Afghan freedom fighters [The Taliban] persevere in standing up against the brutal power of the Soviet invasion and occupation."
"The resistance of the Afghan freedom fighters is an example to all the world of the invincibility of the ideals we in this country hold most dear, the ideals of freedom and independence. "
"Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby designate March 21, 1983 as Afghanistan Day."
