- highlymodified, on 05/20/2009, -1/+29FTA: 'In his prison scrawlings, Félix Gallardo argued that fighting poverty would be the best way to stop young people from joining the ranks of cartel foot soldiers. "Today, the violence in the cities needs a program of national reconciliation. There needs to be a reconstruction of villages and ranches to make them self-sufficient. There needs to be assembly plants and credit at low interest, incentives for cattle and schools," he wrote. "Violence can be fought with jobs ... We must remember that in the mountains of Mexico, the people are forgotten ... There are no medical clinics, roads or security. Only repression." '
From someone who knows.
Offering medical care, sufficient infrastructure, education and a solid safety net isn't a "nanny state." It's the mark of a modern civilization where everyone can take the very basics for granted and thrive if they work hard. It ensures no one has to turn to crime to survive or make a living.
You wanna be "tough on crime"? Start funding schools and health care. You want the international violence to stop? Turn the focus to aid and infrastructure instead of military might. - blacksoul, on 05/21/2009, -0/+7I think the point he is attempting to make has escaped the majority of you, save for highlymodified. To put this into perspective, how many ex-hackers turn security auditors, and are some of the most informed in the industry, why? Because they know what it's like to be on the other side.
If the guy responsible for setting up cartels and recruiting these young kids stops and says "Hey, here's how i did it, and here's how you can prevent it", we had better goddamn well listen. - nyxerebos, on 05/21/2009, -1/+4"corrupting kids" - OH NO! THINK OF THE CHRILDENS!
The US created this failure of a war on drugs and as the market which is funding all this crime are entirely responsible. Since much of the involvement of organized crime is is a direct result or cannabis being illegal, there is an obvious and straightforward way to destroy the profitability of trafficking it. More equitable immigration policy and aid to latin america would also go a long way to curbing human trafficking and the production of cocaine. - AZExile, on 05/21/2009, -0/+3As a mexican drug lord, I'm really getting a kick out of these replies
- jdames1980, on 05/21/2009, -1/+3um.. are you retarded?
- x5pfif, on 05/21/2009, -1/+3I hope the US does something about all the drug crime in the southern part of the country. All I see on CNN every day are stories about Mexican cartels going into southern TX, AZ, NM, CA, etc and corrupting kids, inciting violence, etc.
- Wilderzan, on 05/21/2009, -0/+2He's in jail, so he is facing his consequences whether he wants to or not.
He's offering up sound knowledge. Decriminalize these drugs, invest in our neighbors infrastructure, less militarization on social issues. - jdames1980, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1No, I don't really have a solution, other than stricter enforcement for labor laws. If illegals can't get jobs they won't come here. Besides, I'm pretty sure that the solution isn't to invade northern Mexico.
- hasslinthehoff, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1It's just a vicious circle, in my opinion. Americans keep buying drugs, which fund the cartels, which corrupts the govts, which causes mayhem and violence. Maybe it's time to find the cause of why Americans keeping buying drugs in such massive quantities instead of spending billions dealing with the effects. But that's just me talking crazy talk.
- blacksoul, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1Sometimes it doesn't matter what is said, rather who said it. ie; if your neighbor's 5 year-old child told you you're car needed a tune-up, it wouldn't carry the weight of your mechanic father-in-law telling you the same thing.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I guess he could have this published or begin writing drug-themed novels while in prison... Let's see how that turns out.
http://www.martinworldwide.net/
Maybe I should include my PO Box number in his author mailing list. hahaha - sodade, on 05/21/2009, -1/+2Boy, you sure have the world figured out there don't you kiddo? /s
- Somnabot, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1Solid12345 sure got told.
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -3/+4Summary - I bought a bunch of drugs wholesale. I sold them in smaller quantities at market price. I killed some guys. I built a drug factory. I sold a bunch of drugs wholesale. I had a lot more guys killed. I am in prison now.
- sodade, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1"Do you have a solution to every Mexican wanting to get into this country?"
Umm - maybe a reason to stay in their native country? You know, like jobs. - inactive, on 05/21/2009, -0/+1Americans buy drugs to get high to cover up for their own insecurities in life, end of story.
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -1/+1Guess I stepped on some politically-correct toes. Yes we should just take in every Mexican citizen and make them US citizens by liberal logic, but to bring America to them, well that's a horrible thing to say!
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -1/+1Except he is offering no new info, I don't need a rocket scientist to tell me poor kids get mixed up in crime. This guy is just trying to make an excuse for his own choices in life and won't accept the consequences.
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -1/+1Do you have a solution to every Mexican wanting to get into this country?
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -3/+2I a perfect world I agree but.......the only problem with Mexico is the corrupt(top to bottom) government and you cant expect the problem to fix itself. They took the guns from the mexicans for a reason now the only people who have them are the federales and the dope dealers.
- inactive, on 05/21/2009, -9/+2We should just take Northern Mexico over. In 30-50 years half their citizenry will have drifted over to our side of the border and polls have shown most would come to America if they could. The white-skinned Mexicans in the southern portion of the country don't want the mestizos there anyway.
I consider this a mandate to make it the 51st state, go in, clean out the corrupt politicians and bring our job opportunities to them. Pax Americana FTW. - inactive, on 05/21/2009, -12/+1Sounds like an excuse for his career of terror and intimidation to me.
