- archerx, on 10/12/2007, -18/+118Two wrongs don't make a right, killing sting rays will not bring back Steve.
I hate people.... - Kittenality, on 10/12/2007, -1/+88The kicker is Steve would have been the first one to denounce these abhorrent actions. One of the reasons he was there filming (he was making two documentaries) was to straighten the record about so-called "deadly" sea creatures - the stingray being one of them. He knew they were usually docile and shy animals. What happened to him was a rare incident and killing these animals, who don't possess a mean and cunning thought process like humans, for revenge is senseless.
- atomicpoet, on 10/12/2007, -8/+84Not that stingrays as a whole have a vendetta against Steve anyway. Stingrays, as a whole, did not plan to assasinate Mr. Irwin.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71i'm positive steve irwin would fight (if he could do so after his death.. hey, it's called "hypothetical" for a reason!) for the life of even the stingray that killed him. apparently the people that mutilated these stingrays to "avenge" irwin's death don't understand his legacy, or care about his life's work of protecting all forms of life.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+60"Two wrongs don't make a right" but three lefts do.
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52People aren't doing this to "avenge" Steve. They are doing this to get attention. All it took was 10 dead stingrays to get on CNN and Digg and who knows how many other national news sites. People are riding on the coat-tails of Steve's death to get publicity, and it's sick.
- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -22/+59"Two wrongs don't make a right ... I hate people...."
hating people for the actions of a few seems like a "wrong" to me... - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37Killing stingrays is more lame than the World of Warcraft tribute arranged for him. For the record, I didn't think that was possible.
- rcran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29This is definetely not what steve would have wanted.
- alantocheri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I think Steve would be pretty pissed off if he knew people we killing animals in his name.
edit: ^^ dido what rcran said - themarq, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22It's not a fact that these morons are killing stingrays in revenge for the death of Steve Irwin, it's just a theory, and a stupid theory at that.
A better theory is; since stingray barbs have been in the news for the last week a small population of yabbos have decided that posessing a stingray barb "just the one that killed Irwin" would make them a badass.
Whatever the reason, idiots, plain and simple. - heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20We can only hope.
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18wow. idiots.
- devin_mm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Lisa: Dad, you can't take revenge on an animal. That's the whole point of Moby Dick!
Homer: Lisa, the point of Moby Dick is to be yourself. - bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12The ironic thing is that the stingray wasn't supposed to be a part of the deadliest sea creatures documentary. During a break Steve decided to get some footage of the stinrays for a show is daughter was going to host.
I agree that this is done purely for attention. No Steve Irwin fan would ever think to kill the stingray. In virtually every episode Steve made it clear he is invading that animal's territory and if he is hurt it's entirely his fault. The man would be devestated if he could possibly know his death would result in revenge killings. - LHopi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"Let's burn down the observatory so this kind of thing never happens again!!!"
-Simpsons - JMartin13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"guild mates"
LMAO - wirelesshnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11If this is being done in retaliation or fear then we have learned nothing from Steve. If you wish to show him respect continue his dream, don’t destroy it.
- r00b, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Steve Irwin is a good and kind man. He has devoted much of his life to saving, protecting, and studying animals. His family operates one of the largest cruelty-free zoo's in Australia, which serves as a place for re-population of endangered species as well as protection from poaching in his reserves.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13plnegative1: Yeah, damn those animals for doing what comes naturally to them, How dare they use their animal instinct. They deserve to die!!
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I thought stingrays were normally not inclined to use their stinger unless threatened... Wouldn't killing a bunch of them raise the chances that some idiot will get himself impaled? Like poking a bull with a stick, its just plain dumb.
- Bakkhai42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Neanderthals.
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The stingray that killed Steve is basically the ***** of the animal world right now.....shunned by all other creatures.
No, seriously, I've swam with stingrays numerous times and they're extremely magnificent and docile animals. They basically swim right up to you and float up and around your body. Steve was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, unfortunately.
What these people are doing is insane - it's the Red Scare of stingrays. - Zinthose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Stupid people, and to make things worse someone even created a flash based game where Terri kills stingrays in revenge. Maybe the idiots that are killing sting rays can play this damning game instead.
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/336992 - smacg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Being a fan of sick humor, I think the idea behind that flash game is funny, even if I'm half-ashamed to admit it. However, killing real-life stingrays is just 57 varieties of stupid. How long before we hear of some ***** getting killed trying to get "revenge" on an innocent stingray? Darwin, where art thou?
- Silmarillion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think he would start crying if he heard about this. seriously. Did people learn nothing from Steve Irwin?
- pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8WWSD
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This is a war worth fighting, unlike the war on drugs/terror. We can win this.
- streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This would be kind of like taking revenge for Hurricane Katrina by boating out into the Atlantic and somehow beating the crap out of El Niño.
- theolane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6unbelievable how these idiots disgrace Mr. Irwin's memory. Were he alive today I feel certain he would be the first and loudest voice to condemn such asinine behavior... stupid people like those killing stingrays make me want to puke and should be voted off the planet...
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7what morons.
- JonasParker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This is disgusting and sickening.
- iamjake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Steve is rolling over in his grave over this.
The reason Steve did ALL his shows was to prevent this exact thing from happening.
This is exactly what Steve did not want and what his entire message his whole life has been fighting against.
Some people are so stupid. If you truly appreciate Steve's message, this is the last thing you would ever consider. - phoofy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You're right, whatever the true reason, whether it's for publicity, profit, or revenge ... unless those rays were killed in self-defense (which I doubt) ... it's all really just stupid.
- FarcePest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Life imitates The Onion again:
Australia's 'The Stingray Hunter' Says 'It Should Have Been Me'
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/52346
"Allen says he will spend the next season of his show hunting down the stingray that killed Irwin and slowly torture it to death on camera." - Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"They used him as the WWFA (World Wrestling Federation of Animals) symbol."
Must have missed that show on TV. What channel is it on, TNT?
Seriously, you may have just won the award for most idiotic post on Digg. This is a high honor. - themarq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Fotograffiti
Maybe you missed my point. Both theories are stupid, but the one presented in the article is less plausable than the one I suggested.
It seems highly unlikely that anyone who is a fan of Irwin, or mourns is death would go out and kill animals out of revenge. Steve's message was clear, animals must be protected. There's no way anyone who followed his carreer would kill a bunch of stingrays as "revenge." That's stupid.
However, I find it very easy to picture some knob thinking that he could wear a stingray barb as a necklace to impress the ladies. He could point to it and say, "Look at this, just like the one that wasted Steve Irwin. Way cooler than a pussy sharktooth." - WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8gmillerd, you really need to step outside your front door more often, and just take a walk down to a physical friends house for a visit.
- carbonetc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Can't let the stingrays think they've gone soft...
- cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3thank you. apparently everyone else missed the part where cnn said:
"it's just a theory"
buncha asshats. - BullyJack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just spoke with a buddy of mine in Australia. He said that Steve spent all of his money on wildlife preserves. He also lived in a small, brick house with his family in an average, everyday neighborhood.
I normally don't get emotional about deaths of celebrities, but I was REALLY sad when I heard about "The Crocodile Hunter". He was a good guy. - kevinmotel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah that will teach those animal without a basic skeletal system, lungs, four chambered heart and a lack of cognitive mental abilities to mess with humans
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5As long as the killers are sticking their thumb into the stingrays butthole i have no problem with it.
- frogpelt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Animals = dumber
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Crikey! There's a bit of irony, that they are killing innocent animals as a 'tribute' to a man who cared so much about animals and nature! Did these yokels learn nothing from his life?
- ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Yeah, because he plays a videogame using some of his spare time to do it, means he has no "life". I'd say your deduction shows a lack of intelligence. Either that or you are inherently an *****. Either way you fail at life.
- thedrunkpirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Begun the Stingray War has
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@plnegative1
Shotgun is not a verb, you can't get up and shotgun. Unless you're talking about football, in that case, have fun playing football with the bear. - mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So there is white trash in Austrailia...
- Flump5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Im sure killing animals is exactly what he wouldve wanted...
