- Bajeda, on 10/10/2007, -15/+52Do they have to blame everything on Al-Qaeda? This was obviously a sectarian attack, and probably has as much to do with Al-Qaeda as Iraq had to do with 9/11.
- doctechnical, on 10/10/2007, -8/+33Al-Qaeda ate my homework.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22The death toll has passed 500: http://www.thedailybackground.com/2007/08/15/report-500-iraqis-dead-in-triple-suicide-bombings-al-maliki-has-no-comment/
- andyhite, on 10/10/2007, -14/+32Was it just me, or did anyone else immediately think "omg! zombies!" when you read the title?
- DruSam, on 10/10/2007, -7/+24Al-Qaeda took my lunch money.
- tthomas1529, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20Al Qaeda is my father. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo
- DeskFlyer, on 10/10/2007, -7/+23Al-Qaeda stole my bike.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/10/2007, -9/+23Learn to use the reply button like I just did. kthxbye
- FyreGoddess, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14It's not consistent, but more and more often, I've been losing the reply button after the second level of comments. It's highly annoying, but, no, it's not just you...
- dshPls, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13"could get any more retarted"
You've one-up'ed him. - DruSam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13It's the "250 DEAD and rising" part that makes you think zombies.
- ncairns, on 10/10/2007, -6/+18@DeskFlyer
Yeah, this is getting really old. Ever since the new comment system, the reply button has not worked for me. I mean it literally doesn't show up when I'm logged in. It's annoying as hell. I can't be the only person this has happened to. - Checkerd, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19Al-Qaeda spoiled the ending to the new Harry Potter book.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11On the other hand, I agree with the parallels to Vietnam. Both wars fought against the boogieman of the day for economic reasons, strongly opposed by the majority, that continued far too long due to the cowardice of politicians.
- boobees, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10'Tis a sad day indeed.
American military death toll: 3,500 +
Iraqi civilian death toll: 300,000 + (probably way more than that)
Honestly, it sickens me when I hear of American soldiers dying. But I feel much, MUCH worse when i think about the sheer magnitude of wrongful death and destruction the Iraqi people have endured.
RIP Liberty and Justice for ALL - ncairns, on 10/10/2007, -16/+24@wmarkusen
Are people like you ever going to learn that linking to your Digg submissions in entirely unrelated comment streams in a blatant, shameless attempt to get your article on the front page will only make it easier for me to bury your crap as spam?
I might have dugg that story if I'd found it by myself, but your feigning empathy for these people's deaths as a maladroit segue to your own agenda is pretty disgusting.
Buried. - Sifl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Al-Qaeda assassinated JFK.
- mtrip, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Typical digg reaction: 200-500 dead? It's all about us! It's all about my political views I push at every single opportunity!
- Jwoey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I know im gonna get dugg down because this is completely off topic and is just a stupid story of my boring day at work, but I just got an email from someone who meant to sign "Best Regards" but said "Best Retards" instead. made me giggle.
- fliptiger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8When I first read the title I thought the dead was rising ala zombiestyle. I'm messed up.
- flashingcurser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5This is mostly a religious attack against these people by sunis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yezidis
It may partially be in response to the Yazidi girl who wanted to marry a muslim. The one dugg a while back who was killed in a "honer killing" on mobile phone recordings. Most muslims believe the Yazidi worship satan. - dshPls, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8So we're fighting for Big oil, yet we haven't got any oil? We're paying MORE than when the war started you nutter.
- digichris, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Things are getting better in Iraq, honestly.
- xxTazxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I like peanuts too!
- CosmicJustice, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The Shiites hate the Sunnis who hate the Kurds who hate the Shiites. Please explain to me how this wouldn't happen if the US left Iraq. Please don't automatically digg me down just because you think we should leave Iraq. Maybe you have a good rational answer to how we leave without them all killing each other. I'd like to hear it because I'd really like us out of Iraq too.
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6If we don't act, we cannot create change. I noticed the same thing you did, and it's not right. We must put an end to the war.
Join our General Strike on 9/11, digg up my number and let's send a message. We must unite together as we an ineffective isolated and alone.
Thanks. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5me no brain
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Don't worry, victory will only take 1 more Friedman unit. Maybe 2 at the most.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedman_(unit) - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7public opinion shaping the strategy...if that was or had ever been the case, there would be no war in Iraq.
- notque, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6What a broad meaningless statement that attempts to make Bush's actions meaningless because he didn't start the first middle war argument.
Good times. - Daedalus81, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Actually the American death toll is likely higher. Apparently, if someone is wounded and shipped out of the country and then die they are not counted as KIA for purposes of Iraq death tolls.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -12/+16STAY THE COURSE IS A SLOGAN
NOT A PLAN
DIDN"T WORK FOR THE TITANIC OR THE EXXON VALDEZ, WONT WORK FOR BUSH - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Suicide bombers = Al Qaeda
I think this is Al Qaeda's way of trying to generate good PR. They are trying to kill a sect that EVERYONE hates. Killing is what they do best. - Waiting2awake, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7They volunteered to be sent to a meat grinder for big oil? Surely ye jest!
- illiteratebeef, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4who cares? it's not our problem.
- duggtodeath, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3LOL!
- rhabd0mancer, on 10/10/2007, -10/+13Northern Iraq used to be fairly stable.
Looks like Bush's escalation plan is working! - Alpione, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3So what's your solution, left-winger? Just bail out and leave them to massacre themselves? Great plan, Mr. Great Humanitarian...
- HunterTV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dick.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4This is the first time a digg comment has actually left me speechless. Congratulations, good sir, you win the " most inhuman comment of the decade" award.
- flashingcurser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I have to disagree. Why would kurds want to kill themselves to become free? There are yezidi kurds and muslim kurds. (I dugg you up for the rare civil disagreement on digg)
- tucsonwc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Whereas the neocunt strategy is to allow the poor to die.
See Katrina. Great Job Brownie!
Why is it that a large number of bankruptcies in the USA are due to healthcare bills which is unknown in ALL OTHER DEVELOPED nations?
Great going Republicants.
Why is it that the republican controlled congress passed the most restrictive laws around bankruptcy to benefit the credit card companies?
Oh right, they were bought and paid for by them. Is that a conservative tenet too?
Hay asswipe, how is that Iraq strategy paying off? Is the Oil that Haliburton and others were slavering over PAYING the cost of the war?
How are your PNAC strategies working now?
YOU really need to look at the garbage YOU believe in.
Why did we invade Iraq, instead of wiping out the Taleban? Why did we not stabilize Afghanistan? Why did we not go into pakistan and hunt down Bin Laden and his command infrastructure? Because there was no money or contracts for the military industiral complex?
How do you like Them apples you moron? - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yes.
- FRANKeB, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Who the ***** is this Al character everyone is talking about? He sounds like a dick.
- Sharky35, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7They were killed for not being terrorist enough...
Edit: I meant to say Muslim. - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3al Qaeda is the only militant group in the world that uses suicide bombers?
- flashingcurser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3@ swrostmore So you think this is perpetrated by the current Iraqi government? We will have to agree to disagree. The Kurds have more representation than ever, which greatly angers sunis/arabs.
- mco5t9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Try actually looking at the facts of the attack, instead of having a knee-jerk reaction based on the 'civil war' narrative you've created in your mind.
The Yazidis are an extremely small, minority sect that have had NO part in the sectarian violence. It's much more likely that because of the surge, Al Qaeda in Iraq is finding it riskier and more difficult to strike at the Shiites, so they picked a soft, virtually defenseless target near Kurdistan to inflict their headline-grabbing attacks. More here...
http://engram-backtalk.blogspot.com/2007/08/latest-attack-by-extremists-in-iraq.html - Waiting2awake, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7 Yes, you are fighting for big oil and paying more for oil- why? Because it is good for big oil.
How many DC lobbiests do you have? How many do Big Oil have? Maybe it is time you take your head out of the sand and realize that your government is not for you - it is for their paymasters, and if you have to die for them, or spend more for them - you will - until you grow a set. -
