- aurni, on 03/30/2009, -1/+15Bad news, it's awful there
- drunkenoaf, on 03/30/2009, -0/+12That's as likely as the US doing that.
- thinboyslim, on 03/30/2009, -0/+11Police have taken back the academy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/797199 ...
- dowelly, on 03/30/2009, -2/+13Where's Tackleberry when you need him?
- thumbwar, on 03/30/2009, -0/+9Is this really likely? Would any nuclear nation dismantle their nuclear capabilities?
Maybe they should all hold hands and sing too. That'll really help!
If Pakistan shifted it's focus away from Kashmir and India, it might be better equipped to secure the Afghan border properly. - phreak79, on 03/30/2009, -3/+11Pakistan is turning really messy. Very sad indeed.
- broncfan23, on 03/30/2009, -2/+9Well, when you have elements of the ISI funding these guys and tipping them off if they are about to get arrested, its going to be hard to find them before they do these acts.
- holzp, on 03/30/2009, -5/+12Mahoney!!!!
- JohnFlux, on 03/30/2009, -0/+7Wow, 11 policeman die, so the article decides to focus on the waste of money of the wasted ammo. Unbelievable
- ortucis, on 03/30/2009, -2/+8Yes, watch Pakistani media, trust it like you trust Chinese media.
- sanman, on 03/30/2009, -3/+9this is what happens when you grow Frankensteins in your own yard
sooner or later, they turn on you
this is like Pakistan's version of the subprime mess - it's all blowing up in their faces - rlh1, on 03/30/2009, -0/+6I do believe that Pakistan is 99% Muslim
They have apostasy and blasphemy laws that only apply to or are enforced for Islam. - rlh1, on 03/30/2009, -8/+13Islamists fighting to make a 99.99% Islamic state even more Islamic.
- omarlassan, on 03/30/2009, -2/+7the Major suspects in this case will be Taliban and Indians RAW
- shisir, on 03/30/2009, -4/+8I just pray that the toll doesnt rise and the situation is brought under control asap
- ortucis, on 03/30/2009, -1/+5"..is turning.."
IS? Oh wait, I forgot, westerners used to think Pakistan was all pure and simple and an ally in war against terrorism that just happens to be sponsored by ISI against India and rest of the fraking world. - sujayjaju, on 03/30/2009, -1/+4So true
- hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -0/+3Taleban is an umbrella name given to radical extemists, not a centralized group, which of course is very conveniently ignored by the mainstream media.
- fugazied, on 03/30/2009, -8/+11I find it really disconcerting that Pakistan seems to be losing the battle with extremists terrorists and they (Pakistan) have nuclear weapons. The terrorists getting their hands on those weapons in Pakistan is of more concern than aluminum tubes in Iraq were (and those tubes was half the reason for invasion, some crap about them being proof of a nuclear prgram). There must be more that can be done to help Pakistan fight these guys, it's a global threat and we've wasted billions invading the wrong country.
- hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -1/+3The same is the case for most of the Gulf states, where Americans spend their time vacationing, or moving their business headquarters to.
The war with India was fought over Kashmir, not religion. The partition was designed to be a recipe for disaster. Encircling India, a larger power from the East, West and North with Pakistan.
East and West Pakistan eventually split after the war in 1979. India couldn't give away Kashmir because of its strategic importance. Pakistan would have a much larger border with China.
The KKK wanted to convert the majority white American State to pure white. That didn't make America and white country now, did it? - ortucis, on 03/30/2009, -2/+4"If India gets rid of theirs then Pakistan might."
You really think India cares about Pakistan or its nukes THAT much? The nukes were, since day 1, a deterrence against China, still are.
So yeah, you have other issues like your retarded government sponsoring terrorism in India and then getting its ass molested by the same terrorists in return. - Farhankhan, on 03/30/2009, -1/+3There has been a treaty signed between pakistani law enforcement agengies and taliban, guess then who is involved?
- OMGIAMTHEMAN, on 03/30/2009, -2/+4that's pretty ignorant ortucis.. you know chinese media is state-run.. and our media is corporate-run.. not sure why you think pakistani media is automatically inferior.. our system in america leaves much to be desired.
- sujayjaju, on 03/30/2009, -0/+2Will be ... well you are right
Its pre-decided ... just because Pakistan's ISI is actively involved in such acts in India, its obligatory for them to blame India.
Sad part is, now that Pakistan has finally started to not support these groups, they are getting punished.
Being an Indian, I know that we cannot move ahead without Pakistan making progress and resolving its issues ... else we will always live in the shadow of its fanatics.
Hope to see them ok and more stable sooner than otherwise - hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -2/+4You mean a state where Islamists political parties have never managed over 12% in the polls?!
- rlh1, on 03/30/2009, -2/+4Oh, I don't know.
If 99% of the population claims to be Muslim, they have many of their laws based on Islam, apostasy etc,
Zia builds the "Islamic Bomb".....etc. I would say that the state is already pretty much Islamic.
They fought a big bloody war with India in the partition to ensure that it was the land of the Pure and eventually pushed out the Hindus and Sikhs that remained.
My original statement was a stab at the radicals who think that it is not Islamic enough so they are going to force the 99% Muslim population to become even purer and more Islamic....according to their view of it. - fretslide, on 03/30/2009, -1/+2Like u said "Pakistan Might"
- thcobbs, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1So.... just let them kill all the policemen instead?
- hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -1/+2Pakistan ISI is responsible for arming mosquitoes to India too, with the sole aim of spreading disease.
India needs to stop its ISI bashing. The ISI gained a lot of influence from the financial assistance from the US and its experience in Afghanistan. It's the only strategic leverage Pakistan has over the Indians and naturally, India tends to point every finger at it.
Although I'd agree with you that Pakistan needs to do the same. I just returned from Karachi and the extent to which India is demonized by the media is appalling. - OMGIAMTHEMAN, on 03/30/2009, -1/+2south africa voluntarily dismantled their nuclear arsenal.. I think maybe ukraine did also.. not sure about ukraine.
but south africa didn't exactly have a hostile nuclear neighbor. - thumbwar, on 03/30/2009, -4/+5This submission has nothing to do with the fact Pakistan is a nuclear power. Don't hijack the dudes thread with irrelevant crap.
- rlh1, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1You're splitting hairs at this point.............
- omarlassan, on 03/30/2009, -3/+4pakistani media are really free... the private ones
The kick the govt. ass so hard that they are forced to close them down
Check geo.tv or dawn.com - BotchaMcCoola, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1So am I wrong here" We see Iraqi Sunnis, Kurds, and Shia, and also Taliban - but never al-Qaeda!
- BotchaMcCoola, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1I think they would die from accidents like explosions or radiation burns and sickness before they could effectively use any nuclear bomb materials. If we ever see anyone in those countries building delivery systems like Titan II missiles or long range bombers then we can take action.
- fugazied, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1From what I understand, they would most likely get some radioactive material and strap it to some smaller conventional bombs 'dirty bombs'
- hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1The problem in Pakistan has always been the lack of good leadership. Just about every leader we've had during the last 60 years has siphoned off millions to their personal accounts in Zurich.
And the geopolitically strategic position of Pakistan forces various influential countries to invest in the form of aid to keep it from destabilizing.
Just about every speech made by Asif Zardari to the international media is calling for aid. And then, he gets to keep his 10%. - hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1America elected, then reelected Bush, that tells how much power people really have at the polls.
- weeFred, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1It's not as simple as one treaty. They have signed treaties to not fight in certain places in exchange for sharia law being implemented, and they've signed treaties with certain warlords who support the taliban. But the military is definitely still fighting the taliban in other quarters.
- hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -1/+2If it were so simple, we'd still be in caves wondering what to catch for dinner tonight.
- bashpk, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1Wow! Just wow! Your ignorance is just appalling
- broncfan23, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1@ ortucis
I said if, not when. I have no doubts that India will not get rid of their nukes especially after slowly but surely being recognized as a nuclear country. - ultraJesus, on 03/30/2009, -4/+4Don't they know that deploying the military to fight domestic threats equates a total loss of personal freedoms to all citizens? They should have voted for whatever their equivalent of Ron Paul is, and let it remain a State and not a Federal issue.
- hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -3/+3The Frankenstein was created by the CIA following the Soviet invasion.
For democracy ofcourse! - hyderalamgir, on 03/30/2009, -1/+1Although not as mature, Pakistan media is quite free.
A top ranking government official, Sherry Rehman, resigned recently after the government tried to block Geo TV to block the coverage of Long March in Lahore.
The only state run news channel is PTV, which hasn't improved for the last two decades. - dafoe, on 03/30/2009, -2/+2@Remy13
Why the ***** you idiot pakis keep talking about Kashmir? You can not even control your own territory. Hell, the area about 100 miles, let me say that again, just 100 miles from Islamabad (is that still your capital?) is not under your governments control anymore and you still you keep talking about Kashmir.
Any self respecting nation and self respecting people of a nation would clean their own house first. But oh wait you are pakis, you don't have self-respect. Your nation was built on hate and you are going to destroy yourself with your own hate. - ortucis, on 03/30/2009, -1/+1"India needs to stop its ISI bashing."
You must be one of those who denied Paki hand in Mumbai blasts even though every foreign agency, including CIA confirmed that the attacks originated from Pakistan and had support from government agency. - bashpk, on 03/30/2009, -0/+0My sympathies are with all the deceased and the injured. About a few years ago the Pakistani police wasn't one of the well reputed institutions of Pakistan. Now they're losing lives regularly to protect the country. I have nothing but my greatest respect for them. As far as the people who are saying how its Pakistan's fault that this has happened are concerned. They're right because Pakistanis should be at one side of the divide. We cant afford any doubt in what we do now. Unfortunately its only a matter of time till some idiot starts yammering about RAW CIA ISI and how they have an obscure grand plan to do something.
