- TheAthlon, on 03/25/2009, -60/+842Best wishes to the brave person who was wounded.
- kamel, on 03/25/2009, -31/+732Free Whoppers for life.
- inactive, on 03/25/2009, -99/+649Hope the customer is not hurt too badly.
Serious but stable condition...
He should have just shot him in the head first and not try to stop him and get himself shot up in a gunfight.
It should have been a happier ending, now this poor guy has hospital bills and pain. - Dimensio, on 03/25/2009, -11/+433Precise shots are difficult when made under duress. The most appropriate target region when using deadly force against an aggressor is the "center of mass" in the chest.
- dan0uch, on 03/25/2009, -77/+453I get that this guy was trying to be a hero...but it's only a Burger King. The robber would have made off with a practically non-existent sum of money when compared to all of Burger King's wealth. And most likely, no shots would have been fired. I don't feel bad for the robber at all..I just think that a shootout in a crowded Burger King could have turned out way worse than it did, and it wasn't necessary for the customer with the gun to take that chance. Just my opinion...
- morrissey79, on 03/25/2009, -30/+380i often have the fantasy of killing a bank robber. but i'm canadian, so i have to either have to snap his neck, or repeatedly clock him with the "wicket closed, please use next window" sign.
- Christianptriot, on 03/25/2009, -259/+600Any bets that civilian with the CCW did NOT vote for obama?
- Logicexe, on 03/25/2009, -22/+334Or his uncle Ben.
- 1nhuman, on 03/25/2009, -124/+416I dunno, being a filthy European socialist (with a hunting license btw), if I was in the shop, I wouldn't be too happy with another customer having a gun and using it against the robber. Especially since it looks like it was a messy situation. Give the robber the money and life another day. It's ***** Burger King, yer not rescuing babies or anything.
- LeadStripes, on 03/25/2009, -140/+415I can't believe some people think it's better to have someone shot dead than to have a Burger King robbed.
- r0mper, on 03/25/2009, -3/+260Hamburglar?
- Thuban, on 03/25/2009, -85/+302It will be interesting to see how the MSM will bury this. Or portray the armed civilian as a gun-nut.
- JeddHampton, on 03/25/2009, -7/+213Who robs a Burger King?
- kdor, on 03/25/2009, -45/+249One less a$$hole.
- Nerys, on 03/25/2009, -42/+228Pew Pew thats funny.
Good news. THIS is how its supposed to be done.
BAD news the perp was stupid enough to try and "return fire"
Now keep in mind this is not ideal but if ENOUGH Citizens did this. ACTED like this criminals would by and large give up. They would move onto easier targets or just realize work is easier than crime. Right now crime is easier than work.
If more people carried work would suddenly become a lot easier. - dcnano, on 03/25/2009, -55/+238You don't think this armed customer and a robber having a shootout in a Burger King was a BAD thing?
- geauxtig3rs, on 03/25/2009, -59/+232This is precisely why I have a CCW.
We hope we never have the need or opportunity to need it, but when the need arises, we seldom fail to pass the test. - TexasKoz, on 03/25/2009, -60/+225One more for the good guys.
- ciphex, on 03/25/2009, -41/+202Unwarranted, unfounded, asinine. You salomejones, are a damn jackass.
- fullback, on 03/25/2009, -70/+214He got into an argument with the robber, and they had a gun battle over a hundred bucks of Burger Kings money that would have been insured anyway?
I'm sorry, but both of them are idiots. - Phyltre, on 03/25/2009, -26/+153Talk to the police. They would have shot the robber the instant he pulled a gun.
But somehow when a law-abiding citizen does the same thing, in the same situation, with the same motivation, it is "wrong." When you rob something with a weapon, you forfeit your life because you are an immediate mortal threat to everyone around you. You can't tell me that's wrong unless you totally disagree with this country's law enforcement system. Next you'll tell me that only a police officer should be able to make a tactical evaluation of a situation... - PsychoDeli, on 03/25/2009, -44/+170"If more citizens did act like this, criminals would just get better armed or start bringing backup."
I am certain, then, that you can relate your assertion with reality. Please do so."
It's true, being from South Africa I knwo how this works. We have had to live with vigilante justice for a long time. What has happened is if there is a store robbery, the robber will shoot everyone that is a potential threat, which has now become everyone in the store because they might have a gun too.
It is one of the reasons why South Africa is now one of the most dangerous countries that are not at war....
Violence breeds violence.... - JeddHampton, on 03/25/2009, -16/+128Well. This is obviously relevant to the article.
- kpwhite4715, on 03/25/2009, -72/+183Probably no one would have lost their lives. The clerk would have handed over cash, the robber would have run out, and that would have been the end of it.
Of course, this ONE story is obviously all the proof in the world needed to argue in favor of reduced gun control. Who cares how many kids were shot to death in the street this year so far? A robber got shot in a Burger King! All hail firearms!! - Landthatilove, on 03/25/2009, -58/+160And his next victim would be your parents.
- Dimensio, on 03/25/2009, -8/+109Your assertion is factually incorrect. In the state of Florida, deadly force is legally justified in circumstances where the facts as they are support the assessment made by a reasonable individual that an aggressor is credibly threatening grevious bodily harm or death to another. As the assailant was armed with a deadly weapon during his act of robbery, the use of deadly force was legally justified even if the criminal had not discharged his firearm prior to the use of force.
- legolas68, on 03/25/2009, -9/+110Double-tap centre mass.
- cardyology, on 03/25/2009, -18/+112Pew, pew.
- LiquidIse, on 03/25/2009, -15/+104Because making something illegal is going to keep it out of peoples hands.
Isn't that 100% in conflict with pot arguments on digg? - acknotSW, on 03/25/2009, -40/+128Until the next time, or the time after that, or the time after that, but eventually someone would be hurt or killed because of this peice of human waste. I'm fine with him in the ground.
I don't care about his circumstances, I don't care about what drove him to do it, there is plenty of help out there for EVERYONE if they are willing to seek it and follow the rules. This man tried what he thought was the "easy way" and he guessed wrong. - TigerStar337, on 03/25/2009, -36/+124I like Burger King, but BK is not worth dying for. If BK loses a couple hundred dollars to a robber so be it. Is BK going to pay this guy hospital bills?
- anaclagon, on 03/25/2009, -16/+101Good thing it wasn't a cop that killed the robber otherwise Digg would not be so supportive.
- Tarkaan, on 03/25/2009, -8/+90Good, a fellow CCW holder.
I don't know about you, but this exact situation was given in my CCW class. There were four people in the class. Two were jokers off the street, one was US Navy, and then there was me. The question was what you would do in that situation.
Joe Schmo: I'd draw down and cap his ass.
Joe Blow: Same here, I'd cap his ass.
Navy: I would assess the threat and determine the proper course of action.
Me: I'd GTFO! [Instructor]: And then? Me: Call 911!
I was the one with the correct answer. If anyone had been injured in the exchange, the CCW holder would be liable. Why? Because a CCW does not allow you to insert yourself into a situation you would not otherwise have been a part of but for the fact that you were armed.
I hope you're wearing a jackass, your obviously swinging dick would get in the way of your strong-side draw. - legolas68, on 03/25/2009, -91/+169I pity the fool who wants to rob an establishment in a conceal-carry area. I could ramble on and on about how the 2nd amendment and conceal-carry laws actually reduce crime but I can let the article speak for itself.
I should, however, ask the left-wing zombies how many citizens should have lost their lives in this situation should there have been no one with a sidearm? Surely, those of you with a disagreement with my analogy would have a finite number of humans who should have lost their lives should our hero with a concealed weapon been barred from legally carrying it. - fattehboi, on 03/25/2009, -7/+84customer: "drop the weapon!"
robber: "no way"
customer: "Have it your way, bitch." - ewertz, on 03/25/2009, -4/+81A *much* better way to die.
- Mnementh2230, on 03/25/2009, -8/+81It is precisely this reason (precise shots are difficult under stress) that I am a proponent of regular practice with your firearm of choice, and participating in competitions. Competition will get you used to a lot of the physical effects of stress you're likely to encounter in a more serious encounter.
- HellyK, on 03/25/2009, -102/+174This is a prime example of when not to take the law into your own hands. I'm sorry, but that was really stupid of him.
- teamr, on 03/25/2009, -79/+149Attempt to rob a Burger King and get shot to death. So much for the 8th Amendment, I guess
One person dead, another in serious condition, and innocent bystanders in danger over what was probably a couple hundred dollars. In cases like these, fighting fire with fire just burns everything - OwdenBowden, on 03/25/2009, -19/+87The Customer should be congratulated and promoted as a hero.
The 2nd Amendment - Exercise your rights. - roho76, on 03/25/2009, -8/+76That's a completely unreasonable assessment based on a few words. Why don't you go back to bed and get some rest before you come in here and bombard people with your useless blathering.
- daveward, on 03/25/2009, -9/+76So has anyone made the "Did he have it his way?" joke yet?
- DanNZN, on 03/25/2009, -14/+80The robber chose to bring a loaded weapon. You think he would not have used it if something went wrong, something startled him, he was having a bad day, etc.
While I won't say he deserved to die for stealing 100 bucks I also will not say I feel sorry for him either. - ramos289, on 03/25/2009, -12/+74I have a CCW and voted for Obama. Not everyone who's pro-gun is a single issue voter.
- DankBuddz, on 03/25/2009, -142/+204Or if he didn't shoot him at all, nobody would have gotten shot and Burger King would have lost 100 dollars out of the drawer, big deal.
- Ascus, on 03/25/2009, -13/+75But the armed customer did not only stop that robbery he stopped all the future robberies that person would have committed. Generally robbers do not stop robbing until they are arrested or otherwise forced to stop. Also the next person thinking of robbing a BK has to consider it may a fatal endeavor.
- dok333, on 03/25/2009, -16/+78OK, I can understand people saying the citizen should have just let the guy rob the place and leave, ideally it probably would have ended with fewer people shot...ideally. If someone is brandishing a gun in public, robbing a place, he is not exactly a stable person who you could expect to make reasonable, rational decisions, at any point he may very well have opened fire on anyone/everyone in the BK. The criminal was probably robbing a burger joint because he figured it was an easy hit, less likely to have guards or people with guns, but thanks to FL's lenient gun laws anyone, anywhere could have a gun and put up a fight. This is what the laws are put into place for, it is why I have a CCL, if a criminal knows it is just as deadly to rob a BK as hold up a bank, he may decide a career change is in order and not become a robber, but stick to something a little safer. If this guy wasn't stopped, him and his gang banger buddies would know how easy it is to hold up a fast food joint, and would probably continue doing it until something goes wrong and innocent bystanders who just want them to "take the money and leave" get killed.
- chadsexingtime, on 03/25/2009, -46/+106What would have happened if the exchanging of gunfire killed several bystanders as well as the armed customer, and the burgler got away? Thats an equally plausible situation that could have ocurred.
- H0ns, on 03/25/2009, -26/+81Hope he get's free burgers a life time at Burger King.
