Wtf? Why not? - mandarin, on 02/20/2009, -0/+13I blame Bratz
- JasonCox, on 02/20/2009, -3/+17Yes. At age nine I not only knew how to fire a gun, but I knew what would happen to me if I ever fired one at another Human being.
- osiris24x, on 02/20/2009, -4/+16...in turn filling up our prisons and destroying his life.
Here's a wild idea: how about trying to help him? The only thing I find almost as disgusting as the crimes people commit, is how quick others are to dismiss the perpetrator as inhuman and worthless.
He's ***** 9, he needs help, not prison. - JohnDo, on 02/20/2009, -4/+15Does a 9-year-old even have the capability to understand what he has done? Understand what he's pleading too?
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -5/+12what happen to kids nowadays?
- divinediva, on 02/20/2009, -0/+6The complete results of both evaluations have not been released.
- xfactor43, on 02/20/2009, -0/+6When I was 9, and my dad was sodomizing me, if I had a gun, I might have shot him.
We don't know the entire story. This might have been this kid's only way out of the abuse. I am not condoning murder--that is not the solution here. But if this was his only perceived option, I don't blame the kid. Get him some help to deal with the abuse, and then some help on how he dealt with the abuse in turn.
FTA:
"But while in custody, the boy told a state Child Protective Services worker that he kept a tally of spankings and vowed his 1,000th would be his last."
Clearly the kid was being abused. He was reacting to the abuse. He is not psycho, or a sociopath. - mmaine, on 02/20/2009, -0/+6This is so sad for the family. I wonder if we will ever hear the whole story.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -0/+5why ARE you that stupid?
Are you saying this didn't happen? - HelAom, on 02/20/2009, -2/+7"Every American has the right to hang a pair of bear arms on their wall, how could that possibly be misconstrued?"
- mandarin, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3"As the interview wrapped up, the boy buried his head in his jacket and said, "I'm going to go to juvie."
Doesnt sound like he knows what he actually did is wrong. I wouldnt put him near anyone even his mother for a long time - MastDane, on 02/20/2009, -0/+4It's AP news.
- woahwoahwoah, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3What an unspeakable tragedy.
- serif69, on 02/20/2009, -4/+7how is babby formed?
- Oomsoup, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that an 8 year old did this. It keeps insisting the mother did it and got the child to take the blame. Probably untrue but it's so hard to imagine a child doing such a thing.
- megawiz, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3any environment that can cause a child to murder is clearly beyond corrupt... I dont even know how to start addressing this issue...

Your an idiot alot of this ***** can be laid at his father feet he had been taking his son hunting to kill ***** at a young age and it all started before he was nine. He also told his son that when something is in pain you put it down well his dad was having medical problems well he did what his father told him. It is only now we are finding out it went even deeper then that.
The kid was clearly abused you ***** moron you act like he was possessed by the devil or something. If you can't see the difference between a nine year old kid doing this and some adult then your a ***** moron. It's plain and simple his father conditioned him to do what he did if you can't see that then you are again a ***** moron. Get your head out of your ass nothing is clear cut. - howclever, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Good thing you're not jumping to any conclusions before you know all the facts.
The fact that abuse hasn't been "discussed" in public is a pretty good clue that something is going on. 1,000 spankings? For a 9 year old? Assuming he's a boy genius and has been keeping track since he was 4, that's one every-other day for 5 years. Sound unusual to you?
Sure the "1,000 spankings" claim isn't evidence, but it ought to be enough to keep your "lock him up forever" venomous ***** to yourself. - techtock, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2How can you say that without knowing the circumstances? Were you there? For all you know, the father could have been beating him senseless or molesting him for every one of those 8 years.
- offrdbandit, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2Because no one is stupid enough to suggest 9 year old kids should carry firearms?
- xfactor43, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2I do. Get the kid help for being abused, and then get him help for how he dealt with the abuse.
- MadLeper, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1So your Constitutional right to bear arms only applies to a certain age group? Who decides that ?
- encrypteduser, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1If I remember correctly he killed his dad because he was giving him excessive beatdowns. The kid said to himself, "The next time he hits me, I'm gonna shoot him" (Or something to that effect) and that's exactly what he did.
- Gregb11385, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1The same people that decided the age limit for tobacco, alcohol, military enlistment, and so on. The gun owner is also responsible for disabling his firearm and locking it in a safe.
- marklj, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1spankings =/= abuse
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -1/+2they couldn't find the supposed tally paper he ripped up. i doubt he would really tally the spankings.
- Nitelite, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1Maybe he was a tiny ***** who needed spankings. I don't believe in that stuff, but some parents do.
My opinion of the entire thing? Let the cour do it's goddamn job and decide. - blackinthmiddle, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1"Authorities have never discussed a possible motive.
But while in custody, the boy told a state Child Protective Services worker that he kept a tally of spankings and vowed his 1,000th would be his last."
Geez, I don't even know what to say. So the guy divorces his first wife (or she dies) and he remarries. I guess the kid never adjusted to that, obviously. Yikes. - xfactor43, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2I disagree.
When I was 9, and my dad was sodomizing me, if I had a gun, I might have shot him.
We don't know the entire story. What you think is a tragedy might have been this kid's only way out of abuse. I am not condoning murder. That is not the solution. But if this was his only perceived option, I don't blame the kid.
FTA:

Clearly there was abuse. - Darksoul, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1This kid should of never been in prison to begin with it should of never been on the table what happened was his fathers fault and seriously where would they have put him. I see this about once a day on the news here in Arizona. The kid needs help not to be locked away.
- xfactor43, on 02/20/2009, -2/+3I disagree.

- inactive, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1I would call that a motivating reason to blow his ***** head off.
Let the kid go. self defense !
But you know that won't happen, 9 YO kids can't afford hot shot lawyers that live in a land of organised fiction. - megawiz, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1herm... maybe I should have said addressing this issue effectively...
As for your mentality it doesnt solve anything, I'd even say it furthers develops the problem - Jeremyz0r, on 02/20/2009, -1/+1Because throwing a taco at your parents is equal to shooting them. One step at a time. >=)

WTF? Do we not keep records before 2005? What a ***** paragraph. - Shipyaad, on 02/21/2009, -0/+0And one other thing. Kids DO sometimes just snap for no reason at all. It's happened before, it'll happen again. Sure, it's rare, but come on.
Isn't it possible, even just a little bit, that this kid is simply a genuine sociopath? - Shipyaad, on 02/21/2009, -1/+0@techtock
Sure, the father COULD have been beating him senseless or molesting him. The "1000 spankings" thing, however, is suspect at best, and a flat out lie at worst.
Why aren't you jumping all over everybody else who is disagreeing with me for not being there and not knowing the circumstances?
@howclever:
You're right, the "1,000 spankings" claim isn't evidence AT ALL. If it were evidence, and the father was found to be abusive, I might have a different take on the matter.
@darksoul
I'm not sure where to start with this one. Are you saying that this the kid saw this as some kind of mercy killing? Why shoot the friend in that case? Not only that, but the kid has obviously had some kind of training with firearms, and that usually involves safety rules that are drilled into gun users from day zero (yes, I'm going out on a bit of a limb there).
With that in mind, isn't it clear that this kid had premeditated intent to kill his father? If he'd been hunting, then he knows exactly what a rifle will do. He also took the time to consider the how and the why of all this. I think that ought to mean that he doesn't get any excuses because of his age.
Again, if it is found that he actually was in an abusive situation, then I might change my mind about all this.
@RichardCoryJD
Well, that was awfully constructive.
@xfactor43
Good points.
@all the above except techtock and xfactor43
Interesting that when I take this particular position I'm suddenly accused of being a "***** moron" who has his "head up [his] ass," and of spouting "venomous *****."
That's an awesome way to make your point, gents. Well done there. If you'd been the least bit convincing in what you were trying to say, then I might have given it a bit more consideration, but none of you were very effective anyway. It's all right, you can characterize me any way you want; I don't really care.
It was a premeditated double homicide. The boy knew what he was doing. What, exactly, is so complicated about this? - friendlykiller, on 02/22/2009, -1/+0Don't be so quick to make stupid judgments.
