- EJKJGK, on 01/25/2008, -11/+266Who's the dumbest, the person that wiped out all the files or the firm who didn't have them backed up and totally out of reach to anyone except the company officers. We backed up daily and weekly and only the top brass had access. Should be a real wake-up to firms like this one
- natedouglas, on 01/25/2008, -4/+230> "The firm told FOXNews.com that Cooley no longer is employed there."
SHE WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG!!! - inactive, on 01/25/2008, -102/+288Bet her car has a 'hillary' sticker!
- fr0ng, on 01/25/2008, -27/+209Women + emotions = lol
- woofers07, on 01/25/2008, -21/+196A woman was irrational and overreacted? That's unheard of.
(been living with my girlfriend for six years, just so you know) - theNazz, on 01/25/2008, -2/+172"As for the job, Cooley originally wasn't in danger of losing it. The ad was for Hutchins' wife's company."... HA HA HA HA HA HA!
- wvdavis, on 01/25/2008, -2/+124Help Wanted - Architecture firm in need of data backup tec... oh, never mind, it's gone.
- ReverendJon, on 01/25/2008, -20/+106There is dumb and there is DUMB! this girl makes them all look smart! I hope the company is able to make her pay for all that she has damaged. and she should pay a fine of something however, I don't think prison is the correct path. My two cents.
- keeling0ver, on 01/25/2008, -0/+77It sounded to me like she was high up in the company, if only her and the boss had access.
- Buelldozer, on 01/25/2008, -0/+74Things like this are what OFFSITE backups are for.
- Snowman1978, on 01/25/2008, -5/+71Anyone bother to ask why she was looking in the help wanted ads?
- frsrblch, on 01/25/2008, -0/+65This company should be glad this lady doesn't know how to securely delete files...
- imikedaman, on 01/25/2008, -2/+57Although of course, it was only expensive because their consultant told them it'd be a monumental task that requires a herculean effort to overcome, then simply launched his favorite undelete program and laughed his way to the bank.
- MindTrigger, on 01/25/2008, -7/+56Prison IS the right path. You have no idea what losing 7 years of data could do to a company. One of my clients relies heavily on their old data for marketing trends and such. Companies need to keep their accounting/tax data archived as well.
- sockpuppets, on 01/25/2008, -0/+47It's a trap!
- noahhoward, on 01/25/2008, -0/+40Thanks for reminding us all that we're expendable...
- LR2_, on 01/25/2008, -5/+44I don't care if it was their fault they didn't back up. No one deserves this kind of data loss. All of the employees of the whole company are going to be affected by this one way or another.
- jjesusfreak01, on 01/25/2008, -1/+35They were able to recover the data with an "expensive data recovery service". I would start with having her pay for that, and then maybe a little bit of time in jail, and some fines.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/25/2008, -26/+60I dislike Hillary as much as the rest of us... but that's not fair.
There's no reasonable connection to Clinton, and trying to draw one so weak makes the rest of us look desperate to discredit her. - akatherder, on 01/25/2008, -3/+36Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
- godfa7h3r, on 01/25/2008, -4/+36"Hutchins told one TV station he'd managed to recover all the files using an expensive data-recovery service."
Translation - Double click 'Recycle Bin' > Ctrl+A > File > Restore - Zoshchenko, on 01/25/2008, -1/+30What a misguided imbecile! Good luck finding another job. "So, why did you leave your last job?" Interview over. She'll be better off in jail.
- Gir53457, on 01/25/2008, -0/+27Think that's expensive? My uncle used to charge 400 bucks to degauss a TV
- michaelGregoire, on 01/25/2008, -0/+25You touch on a very good point... why isn't the company's data backed up off site? They're negligent themselves.
- picpak, on 01/25/2008, -13/+36She did it for the lulz.
- Destrider, on 01/25/2008, -10/+33Woman: "How do you write women so well?"

- sockpuppets, on 01/25/2008, -0/+22It was next to the crazies seeking crazies section?
- boheme, on 01/25/2008, -0/+21"Hutchins told one TV station he'd managed to recover all the files using an expensive data-recovery service."
An architectural firm that has been doing all digital design for at least seven years, and he didn't have off-site backups?
The woman is a bitch, but her former boss is an idiot. - hawkspur, on 01/25/2008, -16/+36It's funny because its true.
- Jenadae, on 01/25/2008, -4/+24Hope they also fired their tech department.
- jcaino, on 01/25/2008, -0/+20expensive lesson that off-site backups are important.
- Coded1, on 01/25/2008, -0/+20no ***** eh
I'd rather she boiled the hard drives in acid rather than shooting me, sorry mr company :( - magnoliasouth, on 01/25/2008, -19/+38LOL about the Hillary sticker.
What gets me though is what was she doing looking through the want ads anyway? If she loved her job that much, was there a need to be perusing them? - renjipanicker, on 01/25/2008, -3/+211. Woman works for firm for x number of years
2. Thinks she's about to be fired deletes all data
3. No more job.
-------------
1. Man lives with GF for 6 years
2. Thinks she doesn't read digg and makes snarky comment about women.
3. No more GF - gfair, on 01/25/2008, -2/+20The last straw for her was probably getting moved to the basement and being asked to exterminate the cockroaches by her jerk boss.
- kubedawg, on 01/25/2008, -8/+26So? She's a bitch.
- katrayun, on 01/25/2008, -3/+20Poor girl.
- rockjunky116, on 01/25/2008, -0/+17Probably didn't empty the recycle bin
- digindrivefast, on 01/25/2008, -3/+20Too many cats!!
- qwertydvorak, on 01/25/2008, -1/+16"They were able to recover the data with an "expensive data recovery service"."
i have no real sympathy for them. they could have used a "cheap backup device" instead of the "expensive data recovery service". - RatATool, on 01/25/2008, -0/+15that is so Office Space!
- digindrivefast, on 01/25/2008, -9/+23get married or dump her
- Supurcell, on 01/25/2008, -1/+14Yeah, because she was trying to delete it.
- jcaino, on 01/25/2008, -0/+12reading FTW. they already recovered most of the data.
- fearlessfx, on 01/25/2008, -5/+17What, no Time Capsule?
- MrWally, on 01/25/2008, -7/+19"All that she has damaged."
It's very very difficult to completely, truly delete most items permanently. There are always backups of some sort somewhere, and even if they aren't recovery is almost always an option, and notice how the article conveniently mentioned only an "expensive data-recovery service." I also doubt they had to go out and purchase this "service" for this specific case, either. My guess is that any company that has $2.5 million worth of stored information and plans would already be in possession of this sort of service, and the matter was probably blown out of proportion by the ever-infamous Fox News.
Now, I'm not saying she isn't dumb, but I'd definitely say that Fox News is itching to find decent news if it has to rely on stories like this. - sotopheavy, on 01/25/2008, -5/+16She is going to jail. She could have copied the data and sold it secretly, but she's definately going to jail.
- AndyStitzer, on 01/25/2008, -0/+11I wouldn't give this woman too much credit
