- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53You think he's going for a classical look with the horse and sword then he bust out the stallion mounted missiles.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29hope they make it a map for some FPS
- Dragon23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17actually all the locals cleaned out the furniture before we got there. . .
- Dragon23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Hope you enjoy these pictures. Just a glimpse into the world of Saddam and the way he lived. . . These are fairly rare photos as most of the palace was turned into a US headquarters in 2003. This is the way it looked shortly after arriving.
- Dakart, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Wow... Saddam's not so into furniture, huh?
- KrazyA1pha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9These pictures don't really give a good view of the palace. It's a little misleading, because these photos are actually of several different buildings on in the palace complex. The interior pictures are, in fact, from the main palace which is absolutely huge. I can trouble finding a vantage point from the exterior of the palace where I could capture a picture of the entirety of the palace because it was simply so big.
Disclaimer: I spent a year in Tikrit with the Army's 4th Infantry Division during the war's onset. Most of you heard about our division when we captured Saddam!
Also, I'm happy to be out of the Army now. - Andrico4, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Gotta hand it to Saddam, he knew how to live.
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You gotta love the horse-mounted rockets. Maybe his donkey pulled the bio-weapons labs around. Now why didn't Colin Powell mention this at the U.N.
- punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Take your stupid spam elsewhere!
- bryan4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow thats BALLIN! I bet they ate scrambled T-Rex eggs in the morning.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I wanna grow up to be a dictator.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4lawl Those statues are badass. I can totally imagine Maddox making such a statue of himself...
- duckedtapedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Heh, these blueprints of Saddam's palace look a lot like our model home."
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Nope. It's US Headquarters now.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's good to know he had a backup ballroom in case the first one broke or something.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10Wow. Having been to Buckingham and the Forbidden City, and having researched Versailles and the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, and having been to various castles and cathedrals around the UK, it's actually pretty tiny and unimpressive. Considering that Iraq/Iran is usually considered the birthplace of civilisation, you'd expect something a little more opulent.
@Fly1m1 - You mean like any other government or monarchy? Perhaps the Americans should hang their congressmen for approving their own pay rises? Saddam was a dictator, and like any dictator he needed to spend money on establishing his power - this is normal. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks a lot like a Bluth Seawind unit.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Most of you heard about our division when we captured Saddam!"
Wow. Now there's something to put on the 'ol resume. - Misogyny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I'm sure it's a pile of rubble by now. Like most of Bagdad actually.
- Dragon23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Turned back over to the Iraq Govt in 2005
- Humptydank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a typical decorating mistake: Never spend so much on the house that you don't have a budget for furniture.
- Misogyny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Give it a year.
- KrazyA1pha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it's also worth pointing out that this complex is absolutely huge, with many, many buildings and smaller palaces. It was supposed to be his home as well, and he was found within 5 miles of this palace complex.
- Dragon23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24th ID Combat Engineers blew up the statues in 2003 as part of the de-baathification of Tikrit. They cut the head off one of the statutes, melted it down, and a local Tikrit sculptor created the 4th ID memorial. (see bottom of page) http://www.babcockmetalworks.net/4id.htm
- aserer511, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Must be preserved and museum-ized.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -10/+11And then sold it on the black market to buy AK47s...
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3tip of the iceberg. i saw pics with gold sinks, faucets, mirror frames; highly ornamented doors; etc. in an email.
- jerryparid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not much better than the white house. Just replace marble flooring with luxurious carpet.
- Fly1m1, on 10/12/2007, -11/+12He lived at the expense & death of his people. They should have hung him from his chandelier.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I know this is heresay, and anecdotal, but a friend of a friend was there when the Army gained access to Saddam's palace, they found that Saddam had gold toilet seats in the bathroom. The soldiers formed a line and took turns making use of it.
Pretty crazy that people would be so superficial. It's not like metal is the best material for a toilet seat. - marc26uk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah did you see them wheeling away those jewel-encrusted sofas?
lol reminded me of that scene in coming to America, "Semi, I am beginning to think these are the people who stole our clothes" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The White House is a *****-hole compared to Saddam's and Kim Jong's palaces. Almost everyone has better stuff.
- Ndiggnation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I knew people, in the military, that were at this place shortly after it was taken over. They came back with more than a few gold trinkets in their pockets, interestingly or sadly, depending on your perspective.
I likened it to walking into German palaces, goverment buildings, and command centers after WWII, where soldiers pocketed everything they could find. - et_nyc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did somebody say "McMansion"? Or is that McPalace? It's like Tony Soprano's house, only bigger and with more columns.
- MyDigitalSin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where are the bullet holes?
i'll bet he photoshopped them out :P - brianbennett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Iraqi tax dollars at work!
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can I lease this to shoot my upcoming Hip-Hop video with Jay Z?
- askjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice house.....almost like mine.
- dotari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2All evil geniuses have taste and class.. Look at Hitler for example, the Nazi army uniforms were great and the SS uniform was just the best piece of military fashion even today!
This is how we know Bush is not an evil mastermind, no taste, no class... Oh wait, he's Texan... Meh! - xydinesh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome !!!
- AHemp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"We can’t build a house in two weeks. Also, I’m not so sure how “solid as a rock” helps people forget the fact that we built houses in Iraq."
- lizzyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess he couldn't take it with him, could he!
- CEL83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dumb
- MKettler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How bizzare!!
- MFF37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice place the workmanship looks amazing...i wonder what will happen with it now?
- dp1mat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1One of my tool distributors showed me some cool stuff that came from 1 of the palaces. His son was over there at the time and he had sent some Iraq money, some gold off a chandelier, and some other cool items. Back when bush said mission accomplished! But I thought it was kind of neat.
- TTwoA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"hope they make it a map for some FPS"
The closest I can remember seeing is a CTF map for UT2004, but it's actually supposed to be Babylon.
http://insite.beyondunreal.com/map.php?id=1122 - theoristbj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ballin'!!
