If she committed fraud and conspiracy (to commit fraud?) she should be punished for it. However, what was a thirteen year old doing on MySpace? She's not old enough for that kind of unsupervised internet access. I'm assuming she was unsupervised or perhaps her parents could have had the information necessary to intervene in the suicide. Maybe they would have recognized some warning signs when they saw her obsessing over a sixteen year old boy. Thirteen year olds shouldn't be dating, let alone having boyfriends and getting dumped. It seems to me that MySpace should be reserved at least for kids in their late teens, if children are allowed on at all. Thirteen year olds should be hanging out with kids in their area, kids they can interact with on a human level, not a computer level.
- Brumbar, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0Read about this when it first happened. My not so humble opinion is that Lori Drew is a quintessential bitch. I can hope she is convicted and sent down the pike for a long time with no mercy. In reality, it may be very hard to get a conviction. Our legal system for Capitol Acts is pretty much based on act and consequence. Person A plunged a knife into person B causing Person B's death. It will be a challenge to successfully argue this case to a conviction.
The girls parents may have been more careful about supervision and interaction. The degree of that being done we cannot assume. I can guess that they trusted her enough, and that the girl may not have known enough to fully confide in her Parents. Lord only knows the things I did not tell my Parents, but should have. I imagine that we were probably all guilty of that.
