- PLUMCRAZY, on 10/12/2007, -27/+78Dear France:
Thanks for that whole Vietnam thing back in the 60's; that didn't work out too well for us.
Just wanted to say good luck with that whole al-Qaeda thing. Let us know how it works out. - bigp3rm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44I better stock up on Cognac.
- pwallroth, on 10/12/2007, -12/+51Al Qaeda plats to attack France. France plans to smoke a cigarette and scoff at Al Qaeda.
- LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -43/+80on behalf of the french diggers,
*****-you with your surrending jokes. WW II was 50 years ago.
ps. That Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French.
pps. You won the Revolution thanks to the French.
ppps. you're going to make jokes on us? Make contemporary jokes...talk about how we drink too much wine and coffee....tell us we're arrogant blunt bastards, but stop it with the 20th century WW2 jokes! *****! Those jokes are older than your grandpa. - brokekneck, on 10/12/2007, -16/+52riiiiiiiiiiiight.....
- m1th, on 10/12/2007, -11/+42Welcome to earth... where the politics of fear rule the day.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35More on that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_France#French_Jews_and_the_Holocaust
I still can't figure out why they did this. - IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -11/+37I hope you're kidding.
- alternateheaven, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34If France stops this before it gets carried out they will have increased world respect for them somewhat, if they manage to not only stop it but to also outright kill every person involved instead of letting them live they get bonus points for growing a pair and dealing with things the proper way.
- 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34Fire ze missles!!
but I'm le tired... - kaskarn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28I am shocked and disgusted by your comments. Sorry but you guys are a bunch of mindless bastards. As a french, I am _disgusted_ to read that more than 3/4 of your comments are stupidly making fun of the French when France might get attacked by terrorists. After 9/11 the only thing french people expressed towards the US was SYMPATHY. No making fun, no insulting. Just sympathy. Apparently, we cannot ask the same thing from the American people.
You probably think all your comments about "lolz the french are gonna surrender againz" make you seem funny or cool. I'm sorry but it just shows your blatant ignorance about history. I am sorry for my english, it is quite hard for me to perfectly express how I feel about this chain of comments. I thought Americans, and especially diggers were more educated and sensible than what I am seeing here.
I don't expect anyone to post an intelligent response to my post. I'm not looking forward to the unavoidable 'lol go loose another war frenchie" and "stfu war looser"...
Good night - waxoff, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28If they hadn't invaded Iraq maybe they wouldn't be in this *****... Oh wait.
- Snowspot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Radical islam is spreading and it's targets are increasing. Why the hell doesn't the moderate Islam community stand up and do/say something!??! If fanatical christians were suicide bombing places, moderate christians would stand up and say something!
Islam is one of the biggest religions in the world and yet so few will stand up for it's true meaning. How long will the rest of the world have to pay for this? - ArntorFTL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Well have a nap...then FIRE ZE MISSILES!
- Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26Making French jokes because France is in danger of being attack by al Qaida is just classless and base. Let's not forget that France helped us in our war in Afghanistan and opposed us in our war in Iraq, which most Americans now opposes as well. Wake up and smell the ***** coffee. France has historically been one of our greatest allies and still in reality, despite what the rhetorics of the leaders of the two countries. al Qaida proised to attack France means France is in our boat. You don't hear about al Qaida attacking Iran do you?
- AgentConundrum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20well, then have a nap..
THEN FIRE ZE MISSILES!! - kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21its not good for anyone to attack anyone. he was jsut sayign that because he probably is an american. while i do not say better them than us, i do say im glad it is not america, its unfortunate that is someone else however.
- waxoff, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Go AWAY or I shall taunt you another time!
- seanrbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16This is becoming a very successful MO for them... attacking a target nation just before their election time; forcing radical changes in government to create civil unrest and distraction while they continue to advance their objectives. Consider the Spanish election after Spain had been backing the US (elected an openly Communist leadership), the vast increase in attacks in Iraq leading up to the American election, ensuring debate over the war and a change of parties in Congress. They'll be hoping to push France over the edge into (as posited above) a complete right-wing pendulum swing with vast anti-Muslim policies, outraging the moderate Islamic population and creating a greater sympathy for their movement in Europe and elsewhere (perhaps the UN). France's best bets will be to either thwart the attacks or find a more moderate response than the populace will call for.
- clemsontiger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20but im le tired.....
- VorpalK, on 10/12/2007, -34/+48@LeFrenzy:
France only helped with the American War of Independance because
A. It suited them, as they were already at war with Britain in both hemispheres.
B. The Americans were already winning.
As far as the statue: yea, very nice. Thanks. That was a gift, right? and we're supposed to owe you for it? Nice gift.
We persist with the surrender jokes becuase
A. It's ***** accurate. The Italians have a better military history than you do (and that's post Empire). Plus, who said anything about WWII? French Indochina ring any bells?
B. It clearly pisses you off no end, which amuses us.
C. Some of us have a strong English heritage, and pissing off the French is second nature. - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -18/+32YEAH! And no planes ever hit the twin towers either. It was military rockets shaped like 737's! And all those families of the "deceased" are lying because they are PART OF THE SECRET PLAN TO DECEIVE AMERICA!!!
/sarcasmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Terrorists that are already citizens of France could receive orders through the Internet, let's say, and carry out the operation. They don't need to fly-in an army of terrorist drones with LAZERBEAMZ to carry out an attack. They already have key-people based all around the world, I guess.
- sjl127, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17More land for their empire!
- Bean945, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16I don't know? you're the one that took the time to comment.
- PresidentSoup, on 10/12/2007, -23/+35@ICSU
France strategically stayed out of the American Revolution until it was clear the Americans were going to win. - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Yeah because Muslim extremists have a great history in diplomacy...
- FiP0, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19That's because most of these comments are made from teenagers who do not know much about history, or war. They've never fought for anything and have never lost anyone.
- nick111, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18All this anti-French crap comes from France daring to tell Bush that he shouldn't attack Iraq.
France was right. We should have listened... everyone can see that now, but still there are these unfathomably stupid people going along with that original wave of propaganda.
France (and the whole of Europe) is an ally. FFS, grow up.
Oh... and "AQ plans to attack France"? *****. AQ doesn't exist - there are myriad groups of disconnected, dissaffected and foaming-at-the-mouth religious ***** who are painted as a coherent entity for the sake of (Western) political expediency - to make it look like we've got us an "enemy" to mobilize against. *****. - Snowspot, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Hey at least you aren't that "stupid American" stereotype that many french people seem to believe in.
:rolls eyes: - ArntorFTL, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21Go right ahead, Muslims, and do it.
France, as you know, has flirted with extreme right wing politicians in the recent past (remember Jean-Marie Le Pen?) If they pull this crap it may embolden people to embrace right wing candidates in the elections. This would probably not bode well for the millions of Muslims living inside of France currently since these politicians don't usually favor policies that are friendly towards them. - OriginalLucid1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I for one appreciated your sympathy after 9/11. I too am disgusted by punks wishing harm on the French. But in all seriousness, I wish you guys would see the threat that is Radical Islam, and help shoulder the load a little bit. How about some unity, and a little payback for the good ol USofA?
- superfrenchie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15DreadPirate: //And the countdown to the French surrender begins now...//
The 1 millionth French surrender joke since France refused to go along with the US in Iraq was uttered this morning on Diggs by a commenter known as DreadPirate.
In spite of the fact that the United States in the last 40 years has been running away from almost anywhere they have been (places such as Vietnam, Lebanon or Somalia come to mind) and is currently taking a beating in a country not larger than California and with a GDP the size of Rhode Island from a ragtag band of about 10,000 “insurgents” armed with nothing more than home made bombs and rusty riffles, the joke still sounds funny to a good dozen people in America, most of them have never been in a uniform.
When confronted with this fact, DreadPirate was quoted as saying: “Ya, but we successfully invaded Grenada!”
In other news, 18 countries have now withdrawn from the “Coalition of the Willing,” from the original 45. Strangely enough, no surrender joke is ever thrown at them. Analysts think that this is because DreadPirate only listens to Fox News and thus would have no idea that such withdrawals have occurred. - Archimboldo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Same. Nothing stirs up terrorists like success. Support for Al Qaeda was never higher than just after 9/11. The more defeat terrorists have, regardless of who it is against, can only be better for all countries in the world, including Middle Eastern countries.
BTW, I'm not a fan of some French policies, but hey, I have to say I very much enjoyed my visit there and enjoyed the people in the countryside. I avoided Paris based on what I've heard of the "Paris Syndrome"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6197921.stm - Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Wait... your user ID is "impeachgwb", but you yell at france for not helping the war? Go away, troll.
- scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14While I think you're a douche for wanting it to happen, you do have a good point. The French almost voted in a Nationalist prime minister a few years ago as it is.
- xcoastie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14They are attacking the French because they know it will work. Spain folded like a deck of cards, gave the terrorists just what they wanted. They hit America and we are taking it to them, regardless of what you believe the fact is there has not been another attack on American soil. Nor will there be an attack until the dems get in power.
- Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@Vorpalk: Sorry but as an American I find your statement as ungrateful as the French claiming that they could have won WWI without American aid. France did help us at a crucial time in our birth. We honor that by naming many of our cities and roads after Marquis de La Fayette. France getting its ass kicked a lot is one thing but for us to be ungrateful is another thing.
- mattmoto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I wish France the best of luck in investigating it. I hope the US and the EU have their best anti-terrorist specialists on the case.
- TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Historically in Europe Germany was the most tolerant of the Jews and places like France and Spain were the least tolerant.
- xcoastie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@Krymore You missed the point, terrorist are just bullies. They will only try to push those who will not push back. Like France, Spain, Clinton, Obama, Kerry, Edwards etc.. No disrespect to anyone, I hope nobody ever gets bombed again.
- culturedredneck, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14the first thing that comes to my mind is... why france? they have done nothing but waffle, criticize and sandbag all efforts to deal with any islamic government in an aggressive way yet they remain a target.
i think it's because the islamists don't care about what you do, it's who you are. a weak and apologetic kuffar is just an easier target. in the end they're not after justice, they're after power. you can argue that the current president hasn't taken the right steps in checking their aggression, but you're kidding yourself if you think islamism isn't hostile to any western nation no matter the level of appeasement. - matts0344, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11why not?
- nbx909, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Easy target and white flags make good turbans.
- xcoastie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Krymore You need to work on that liberal temper. Terrorists hate FREEDOM not Bush, they are bombing France(not Bush). Read the article.
- pyrotix, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13You're completely right: the commenters have been very rude and easily influenced by anti-French propaganda circulated by the American government in 2003, which included things like re-naming our foods to "freedom ______" and boycotting Grey Goose vodka!
Now that everybody has finally woken up and realized the war was a terrible mistake with manufactured consent, maybe we will remember that France is indeed an ally. - PLUMCRAZY, on 10/12/2007, -32/+38note to self . . .
According to LeFrenzy, surrender jokes still bother the French . . .
Keep using them . . . lol - fucknut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9uhm.. because there's no such thing as "moderate islam"? That's all propaganda BS. Strict adherence to the Quran demands the wholesale slaughter of infidels. A moderate Muslim is not Muslim.
