- giantAppleCore, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Because when I submit from anywhere else I'm always too late, and would create dupes... so I kind of stopped trying... I subscribe to their RSS feed, and while occassionally the story has been posted, it more often hasn't.
That being said... if you don't like the stories, or the site they point to, block me and you wont see them anymore. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17i agree, these madrasas teach nothing but a very narrow view of islam. no math, no science. nothing. the US funded them because they churned out crazies that gave the soviets hell. now the monster has turned on us.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Finally, In their text book it teaches the children to treat infidels with respect but hate them behind their back. And this was just recently, where Pakistan was already suppose to change their textbooks.
- axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's just an AP wire host. What's wrong with that?
- axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Clearly Karzai is talking about the madrassas in western Pakistan that are not funded by Pakistan, but in fact funded by Wahabist Saudis.
- ddales, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8And American brainwashing is different how? Oh, wait, I remember now. It's not done in the schools, it's done in the media for adults. What a relief!
- aderemiojikutu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5True! this is a big blow to the heart of terrorism. The three factors that produced organized terror: LEADERSHIP, FOLLOWERSHIP and PHILOSOPHY. All three are woven together at the school. Shut down the school, and you have shut down their voice.
- GNiMeLF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nooo!!. i want little scuicide bombers!. I can just imagine their training. running in with water balloons yelling "Allah! Akbar!" how cute :D
- axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This is not true. The United States did not fund Madrassas. Saudi money has funded radical madrassas in western Pakistan for years.
- Popcan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Or maybe he was just saying "Thank you".
- FlameOfHeaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3More so disturbing is the fact that large numbers of Afghan refugees are part of these madressah culture.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's so much easier to manipulate a child than someone who is older.
- axxiom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4To: sheikh85
I agree. Pakistanis are not backward thinking. These madrassas are quite rare. The fact that there are so few is more the reason to take action against them. They're not helping Pakistan. Therefore, they're not helping Pakistanis.
The fact that the madrassas are located in areas of Pakistan where they reject the Islamabad government but embrace Arabian money is quite strange. Pakistan needs to bring these areas into their sphere of governance. Musharraf can do it if he wants to. The progressive Pakistanis support that. - sheikh85, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Not really. I am in Pakistan and believe me, will full assurance this is very exaggerated internationally because of some other reasons. There is a very minor part of population which buys these views otherwise paksitanis are very forward-looking and progressive minded people. we are one of the hottest IT regional hubs. We've got the best performing asian stock exchange in the last one year. We've got one of the largest Foreign Direct Investments in all the islamic countries. We have a thriving telecommunciations sector. We've really world-class universities. Unfortunately, we have not been able to mirror all this in international canvas because of our weak media. With time, that base will be covered as well.
Thanks! - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That guy gets a backrub and a slap - one for cracking down on extremism, one for mentioning Bush as a reason to do it.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Musharraf, from what I can tell, is not very serious about cracking down on terrorism probably because he supports terrorism himself (India). If he was serious, he could take care of terrorism in his country, but he's not. He talks a good game but that's just for foreign aid, his heart is with islamic extremists.
- jabbar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3to add to what sheikh and axxiom are saying, i personally know that many madrasas are run in poor areas, areas that are conducive to accepting the rhetoric that is preached there. not funded by arab money, they are solitary entities that rely on the little tuition that can be afforded. just as bad as the fully funded schools, these schools can produce some dangerous results.
- TGMD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5why are you digging axxiom down?
He's telling the truth, the United States has never funded any of those schools. Don't let your bias get in the way.
The U.S. did fund certain Mujahideen that fought the soviets (and a little bit afterwards), was it reckless? Are they related? Maybe to both. But strictly speaking the US never funding any of these schools, nor would they (even in the 80's). Why? There's no intrensic military value to it.
Then again if you submit proof to these claims that the US supported these schools go ahead Digg him down, me too while your at it. - DanMcScience, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4These schools are the worst evil. Imagine growing up being told that Americans are the reason for your poverty and Israel is killing your brothers unprovoked. Imagine trying to show someone how the world really is after 12 years of indoctrination! Stopping the brainwashing is so imperative!! It was brainwashing of the youth that fueled Hitler's rise to power as well remember.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8The Afghan president is such a puppet it's ridiculous. He visited Canada recently and besides spewing a bunch of 'terrorism' rhetoric, he came on CBC news and said: "...would we appreciate more aid [read: money] for the reconstruction effort? Of course. But I'm not here today to ask you for aid. I am here today to thank you [for giving your soldiers' lives]".
It's blatantly obvious that he is just trying to rally foreign aid in exchange for preaching anti-terrorism rhetoric. Bush's lapdogs get a bigger piece of the pie, and he's desperate to be one of them. - two2sANDthree3s, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Maybe the Afghan president should tell Bush to shut down the School of Assassins while he's at it. http://www.soaw.org/new/type.php?type=8
- CarbonAndroid, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Afghanistan president
Ha, Afghanistan military dictator. - sheikh85, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Well ... I think Afghan president should remember that it was pakistan who gave refuge to afghanis for 25 years since the soviet invasion began and the refugees totalled above 3 million. They've been infesting pakistani cities, nooks and corners and have changed the shape of society from once a progressive to retrogressive. They have introduced Klashinkov culture in pakistan and opium is still one of the main contributors to that $1.9 billion of which Karzai boasts in the whole world. I do not give Karzai's comments or thinking any weightage. He himself has been taking refuge in paksitan. why didnt he go and fight out the enemy when taliban were there or soviets were in kabul. did he only go there to rule? if yes, then afghanistan is very unfortunate to have imported a penis-headed guy who doesnt know how to run state-level affairs.
Thank You.
Sheikh Usman
(A Pakistani) - riverside71, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1can't hear you Karzai, care to step out of Kabul to make the same statement? I mean he's the President of that country.. he should be able to travel outside of Kabul.. hahahahah IDIOT.
- sheikh85, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4agreeed. he is a thankless man. he has never thanked pakistan as he is president of afghanistan and all that just because of pakistan's role in war against terror. he was the other day saying that afghanistan would be much rich if it gets all funds aimed at iraq ... IDIOT KARZAI!
- brandnewdrew, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3while there are definately madrasas that teach a narrow and radical view of Islam, not all madrasas are bad. I personally know of some intelligent and noble friends who grew up learning in one of them.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5Why does this submitter submit nothing but the same paper over and over and over?
