- Metahero, on 11/11/2008, -0/+31Here is the CBC's story if you'd prefer to get it from a different media source:
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/11/09/fung-inte ... - MacSuxWindozSux, on 11/10/2008, -4/+33It was a good story but...
It could have been better had she built a hydraulic suit and fought her way to freedom. - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+22..and she was so annoyingly nice and congenial, they sent her back .
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -12/+29Good story, but...
...Fox News. FOX NEWS. - Waiting2awake, on 11/10/2008, -0/+16Thats the secret weapon every Canadian has... That passive aggressive tone, while being polite to the extreme can break even the most hardened baddies.....
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+15You know too much about us, you leave me no choice but to...kindly ask you to please never point out our secret weapon again, we would very much appreciate it, thank you ever so much!
- Metahero, on 11/11/2008, -0/+12Nothing. I don't care if it was originally fox news. But apparently some people do, and, since the article is about a Canadian reporter working for the CBC, it is possible that CBC's coverage is more appealing for some.
- inactive, on 11/09/2008, -4/+15What can I say, I'm a republican.... :o)
- KJGJ, on 11/11/2008, -3/+13For all the people that are going to start bitching about Fox News; if you're going to complain about bias, stop digging every damn fake story from Huffington Post. Hearing different sides to a story never hurt anyone.
- PillCosby, on 11/11/2008, -0/+8I dont understand digg... so this lady is kidnapped dosent get any diggs, and a redneck puts a swastika on an obama poster and people freak out.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+8I guess it sounds ***** up but, she's so lucky all they did was kidnap her. They could have done so much worse, it's what I was expecting to read.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+6Suuuuuuuure.... It's okay to admit it - you're in good company :)
- ShadySpace, on 11/11/2008, -3/+8I'm shocked she would be wearing a headdress after all that. First thing I would do after getting free would be to joyfully reject any cultural associations to those who inflicted such anguish on me. And before anyone jumps to some ***** "racism" conclusions, if I was kidnapped by Americans I'd ***** on a apple pie the first chance I got.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -4/+9Sounds like she got better treatment than we give our prisoners at Guantanamo.
- mrcaulfield, on 11/09/2008, -3/+7as if CNN is a cut above Fox...I basically watch both channels for pure entertainment
value and then I check into indie lib & conservative media. - DavidChouinard, on 11/11/2008, -2/+6Wasn't that the beginning for Ironman?
- 4321234, on 11/11/2008, -0/+4She was, after all, a CBC reporter.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3And you sound like a charming person, inside and out.
(That was sarcasm, in case your mother never taught you that. She obviously forgot to teach you manners.) - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -3/+6Canadians get real news channels on TV, so they can't quite see a difference between Fox News and the Colbert Report.
- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3What are you implying?
- dianebl, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3Kowcun, are you serious? Military reporters? Yeah, SURE we'd get news.
That's how it was in the old days, and what came out from the front was always sunshine and lollipops. - Smilex, on 11/11/2008, -2/+5Ya I was all, "Hey what the fux news?"
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/11/08/journalis ... - pooljoe, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3But...But...How would we get the news?
- sheldonnbbaker, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3She shouldn't have ridden in the Funnvee. :(
- PillCosby, on 11/11/2008, -1/+4that might have been sarcasm...
- indigit4l, on 11/11/2008, -1/+4Did she build a suit of armor and break free?
- dianebl, on 11/11/2008, -0/+3No, speakerCity is right. She was detained, but she could stand up and she wasn't abused. She was released after only a month. Compare that to up to 7 years of being detained, sometimes with no charges at all, and no hope of release. Some Guantanamo prisoners were released after several years and sent home, and STILL had no charges laid.
- 4321234, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Can't really be sure of the veracity of stories from Fox News or the Onion.
- westory, on 11/11/2008, -1/+3The prime minister said no money or Taliban hostages were traded for her freedom. But he's cynical enough to lie when he thinks he can get away with it. And a newspaper in Pakistan says two top Taliban militants were exchanged for this reporter.
http://pakobserver.net/200811/10/news/topstories04 ... - DevinKev, on 11/11/2008, -0/+2Yeah and civilian reporters only report the blood and guts. Probably even more biased, just from the other angle. Let's face it "sunshine and lollipops" don't get ratings.
When was the last time the Weather Channel wasn't focusing on some weather catastrophe somewhere? Otherwise, you'd get your forecast and go back watching "Ugly Betty", "Lost" or reruns of "Seinfeld". - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -3/+4Apparently she was too busy smoking crack to ever send you to school, either. Thanks for the laugh, buddy. Try and insult me when you at least get a grade school education.
- PillCosby, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1But I think your missing the point, although what you are saying makes sense, (and I agree wholeheartedly that this is tame for Afghanistan) I think that some people on Digg have no regard for things that are obviously of more importance than defacing some presidential poster.
- przemeklach, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2Yes it's a bad thing that this happened to this woman but I think the media has been making too big of a deal about this. I've been hearing about this for 3 days now just because she's a reporter. I talked to a few of my friends who are over there as part of the coalition and they say that they where not surprised when she was kidnapped. Apparently she was traveling without an escort, without an escort in a country at war? That's not too bright. She should not be getting the publicity that she is getting. She should be fired for not doing due diligence on her part. More horrific things happen every day that don't get 10% of the airtime as this has.
- mysticalone, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1built it with a box of spare parts.
- sfacets, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1I still think torturing people is worse, sorry American news.
- BuddyDoQ, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2Yeah, and we won those wars!
I'll take two lolipops please! - eadnams, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1SO when are they gonna pay attention to Amanda Lindhout?
- Spymodhf, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2OMG REAL LIFE IRON MAN!
- shady1630, on 11/11/2008, -3/+4TONY STARK BUILT THIS IN A CAVE!!!!
- Murdats, on 11/11/2008, -1/+24chan is over that way --->
- bobajoba, on 11/11/2008, -1/+2And journalists still going to these Middle-Eastern countries. Will they ever learn? They're like roaches checking into motels. They never check out.
- clearwaterlab, on 11/11/2008, -2/+2Mr. Stark has not been seen since.
- Jeffler, on 11/11/2008, -1/+1How about we just get it from a ***** Candian source, like the CBC link below?
- ilovedgus, on 11/12/2008, -0/+0In the CBC version it said:
The raid to free her came shortly after a threatening phone call earlier Saturday by one of the kidnappers, saying Fung would be killed if a ransom went unpaid or if several people in police custody were harmed, the CBC's Susan Ormiston reported.
"Around 8:30 p.m. local, we successfully raided a house … and rescued Ms. Fung in very good health condition," an official said at a news conference.
I thought she was kept in a cave? Not a house?? I'm confused.
Regardless, we'd scream if reporters weren't there, we'd demand freedom of press and information and our right to know what our military is up to. So, we ask them to be there (and so do their money hungry bosses) and then we debate about whether or not they should be. If all the information you ever got about this war was through the official lines of the army waging it wouldn't we all be on here screaming to hear a different side??
These things happen IN MOST AREAS OF THE WORLD. Not just Afghanistan. Most of the people commenting on here have the LUXURY of walking out our front door relying on law and order to keep us safe. We are the minority. It's sad but true, and I think that's what we should be talking about...
Wow this got long! Sorry! - soapsuds, on 11/11/2008, -1/+0Umm... because Afghanistan is a war-torn mess of a country, and kidnapping someone for a few weeks is pretty tame compared to what the US-funded and Mujahadeen fighters did to captured Soviet soldiers (e.g., repeatedly sodomize before killing, cutting off genitals, etc).
Whereas here in the US, while we might have disagreements about various policies and so forth, I'd like to think we're all on the same team here and can and should hold ourselves to higher standards than what happens in a place like Afghanistan. - eltardo, on 11/11/2008, -3/+2Fox News is about as reliable as those lame ass English Tabloid digg stories.
in short, Fox sucks. No secret. -
