- BrentFail, on 06/22/2009, -0/+154How does the Boston Globe always get the best pictures of everything?
- peterjmag, on 06/23/2009, -0/+63They're all cited as Getty Images or AP Photos (at least all of the ones in this particular article). I'm not sure if any of their photo essays are from their own photographers. However, I'm still glad they put them together, because they do indeed find awesome photos...
- captainchris, on 06/23/2009, -0/+58judging by these pictures alone, this country could accomplish so much if they just had proper rights. so much potential wasted because of islamic conservative lunatics.
- reckage, on 06/23/2009, -6/+48Very awesome pictures.
Also, the girl in #3 looks hot. - inactive, on 06/22/2009, -3/+28This is happening before our very eyes :(
- superflydugg, on 06/23/2009, -1/+21because sometimes you gotta kick your own government's ass.
- stereosaurus, on 06/23/2009, -0/+15Most, if not all, of their Iran photos (both here and in other pages) are from wire services. A lot of their other international photo essays are as well. Any newspapers that subscribe to these wire services (which is most of them, and certainly all the bigger ones) have access to the photos.
All this means is that boston.com clearly has a good photo editor(s) willing to go through every wire photo and pick out the best.
(And good web devs, since the presentation is a large part of why their photo essays succeed). - noangelcame, on 06/23/2009, -1/+14oooh,. because they sure look like they are having a good time risking their lives for just a bit more freedom.
- MaxMyers, on 06/23/2009, -0/+12Various news outlets have already stated that the votes cast drastically outnumber the registered voters. You should refrain from commenting if you have no understanding of the matter, or no sense.
- retral, on 06/23/2009, -2/+13Because it's TOTALLY the same thing!
- baiwushi, on 06/22/2009, -1/+12Picture number 26 seemed like the one that best summarizes these tragic events.
Hopefully they can peacefully settle things soon. - gdenne, on 06/23/2009, -2/+12I don't know, but they certainly do...
- retral, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8
I'd like to clarify: If you think the US is ***** compared to these countries, you need a reality check. - CATSCEO2, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8wat
- gadgetboy32, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6The people will never stop..."We the people" The time has finally come, just love it. People will get hurt and die in the process knowing that freedom will soon come to the next generation.
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6#32 is the most iconic photo I've seen come out of whats happening in Iran so far.
The most iconic video is of coarse Neda though. - themastersb, on 06/23/2009, -1/+6...through a computer screen.
- Senorchili, on 06/23/2009, -4/+9FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT PEOPLE OF IRAN! FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY!
- noangelcame, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5These are amazing images. I can't even imagine the collective courage it must take to stand up to that kind of oppressive rule. Nevertheless,. I hope they don't stop until they overthrow the supreme leader and remove the theocracy, and instate the government they deserve.
- fluidfoundation, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5Understated headline of all time.
- Dream0Weaver, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Mh hm, and did you realize that election was fair, unlike the Iranian one?
- rabidjester, on 06/23/2009, -1/+5Those aren't batons, they're happy fun sticks!
- TheSeanFace, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4This is about Iran not you Americans, don't forget that.
- Betrayer, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4im guessing her hair color represents western ways... or just rebellion in general?
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4***** "troubled" that is an understatement.
- kernel16, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4So what's the purpose of the up close shot of the blonde?
- Foundation12, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Not their beliefs, their basic rights.
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3tiny little men that run around taking pictures. i like to call em tiny ones without borders.
- uknowwhoibe, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3I was going to post just that. They ALWAYS have the best pictures of everything.
Remember the greek riots? http://digg.com/d1nB53 - kd1s, on 06/23/2009, -1/+4They do happen in the U.S., the media won't cover it. The only thing they will cover is the Tea Party insanity.
- DouglasQ, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3You, do not.
- whakojacko, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Those aren't the Boston Globe's photos-they're from various agencies. They just have a great staffer who has a keen eye for finding amazing stuff. If The Big Picture isnt on your RSS feed already, it should be
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Because they are awesome.
- AndrewSnook, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2The earth is practically made of them.
- Garmonbozzia, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3Pic #11 they look like Darth Vader helmets!
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2The most powerful pictures I saw in this collection were the series of photos marked as "30". The demonstrators marching defiantly toward the armed Basij with nothing but stones in their hands. It gave me shivers.
- L0NER, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2The BigPic always manages to show any subject in new detail.
- LimeParrot, on 06/23/2009, -0/+2You're kooky in the butt.
(The elections had like 85% turnout. That's amazing...) - phosphor112, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3So...you quote Vicariously...worst timing ever...
- adotoo11, on 06/23/2009, -1/+3I am amazed and humbled by how much these people are willing to sacrafice for their beliefs.
- funkify33, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people
- mwalker05, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1thankyou for this deep and meaningful insight
- sonic11, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1sweet Charlize Theron was there
http://inapcache.boston.com/universal/site_graphic ... - gfail, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1I desperately hope those people get the freedom they all deserve.
- LimeParrot, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1??
- aplaneinphases, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1What the outcome is should be decided by the Iranians themselves and not by foreign intervention. If the protestors truly are a majority then, hopefully, they'll achieve their goals of a regime change, and if not, hopefully there'll be a peaceful end to this. What does worry me though is the west's assumptions-based view on this situation and the propaganda by their media working so effectively that it might make the people supportive of western interference in Iran and maybe even an invasion in the future.
I'm already seeing comments supporting physical intervention on this site. - anyup, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1oh my god ,these is war? Wish people good luck
- isfan, on 06/28/2009, -0/+1do you even know what's going on in Iran Ed or do you want me to explain the history.........again
- h3lx, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1All this going on and all we can do is watch it unfold, for better or worse, and there's nothing we can, or should do. No amount of US intervention can help anything... I suppose if it spirals completely out of hand we could start funneling guns, armor, and artillery to the rebels much in the same way the French did for us.
- PsychoticX, on 06/23/2009, -0/+1The U.S. is the result of protests like these.
