- GGIII, on 04/08/2009, -22/+158I usually enjoy Gizmodo articles, but this is incredibly lame.
It's called "Piracy" for a reason. Keep 1.0, ignore the rest. - c010rb1indusa, on 04/08/2009, -4/+112Ya IDK what the author was thinking when he said .5 was good enough and that was BS
- borez, on 04/08/2009, -2/+86I presume Article One refers to seeding ( I could be wrong ) but if so, then a 0.5% plunder ratio won't keep your sea full for long matey.
- pathouston22, on 04/08/2009, -4/+79HOW DO I OPEN RARS? WHAT DO I DO WITH A BIN FILE? PLEASE HELP ME THIS IS STUPID I CAN'T USE THIS!!!!!!
- peteyb1313, on 04/08/2009, -2/+66creepy picture there submitter
- Sexercise, on 04/08/2009, -2/+59SEED!!
That is all. - Marijuana, on 04/07/2009, -7/+58LEAVE PIRATES ALONE! =[
- SkippyDoorknob, on 04/08/2009, -3/+50Parley!
- dagr8tim, on 04/08/2009, -0/+40I try to reseed everything I download to get to a 1.0 ratio.
- RyeBrye, on 04/08/2009, -7/+45" In the 17th century, when groups of men plundered the seas in ships filled with rats and scurvy, they agreed on a code to keep themselves civilly uncivil."
No, they didn't: http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/pirates/Nautical_Myt ...
Don't rely on Disney movies to teach you history lessons. - pacokorn77, on 04/08/2009, -0/+35Seriously? If you leech, you don't necessarily come out and blatantly admit it; that's something that you keep to yourself, moreover, you don't announce it on Digg of all places.
Secondly, you're the reason why some of my downloads are coming in at less than 4KB/s. Thanks, dick. - dazparkour, on 04/08/2009, -1/+35For EVERYONE to maintain 1.0 that means NO ONE can go over it.
I would rather someone in a country with better internet speeds than me seeded past 1.0 if it meant the torrent is going to run at 10MB/s rather than the 256Kb/s we upload rate we have here.
Do we really want fast seeds turning off so slow seeds can catch up so the numbers look better? - sciencelovesyou, on 04/08/2009, -0/+32"Hello class! This year you'll need Advanced Chemistry Vol 2, 2000 revision. What's that? Oh, well, yes, it IS different from the 1999 edition.VERY different. We rearranged some pages and shuffled the content around! Hmm? No, I was not aware that the bookstore had the 1999 edition in the required reading section for my class. No, you can't return it. Well, I guess you'll just have to go buy a copy of the new one if you want to pass this class."
- WithMyMind, on 04/08/2009, -1/+32I see nothing wrong with honor among thieves. I think that if you really were moved by someone's creation, you should support them somehow. You don't need to, but that is the way a lot of us think about it.
- Stormwern, on 04/08/2009, -1/+30Fine list, but I riddle th' legitimacy o' a pirate code without a single "arrrr"
- Memnochxx, on 04/08/2009, -4/+33Boy, aren't you cool?
- anexanhume, on 04/08/2009, -8/+36Can you smell the irony?
- Nidy1, on 04/08/2009, -1/+29
- aletoledo, on 04/08/2009, -0/+28yeah a 0.5 is rather rude and doesn't further the cause.
- fotoshopMASTER, on 04/08/2009, -2/+30Buried for .5 ratio on all his torrents...
Hope he sticks with TPB and MiniNova... - ElBeh, on 04/08/2009, -0/+27WHAT IS NFO FILE, THE DEFAULT DOESN'T WORK!!!!
- BMcClure937, on 04/08/2009, -1/+27They're more what you call guidelines...
- sadisticmind, on 04/08/2009, -0/+25its people like you that make me seed my torrents 7times as long.
my 250GB comcast limit is always hit because of my high upload time - dazparkour, on 04/08/2009, -0/+240.5 is 50%, there for - (0.5 == 50.0%) resolves to "True".
0.5% != true
Your right = 0.5% does not equal true.
What the hell? - ericdano, on 04/08/2009, -5/+28Arrrrgggg matey. Me thinks this list is good. JK's booty is indeed a bountiful plunder.
- Kwinti, on 04/08/2009, -0/+22Your friend has made you the bitch.
- giyad, on 04/08/2009, -1/+23well... why don't you make an example by uploading the torrents, until then im tired of hearing people complain about the format, whether its AVI or MP3
- Pillage, on 04/08/2009, -3/+24I only have one rule: If you can get it legally free but have to watch ads do it (Hulu, southpark studios ect.) anything else is fair game.
- borez, on 04/08/2009, -0/+21Because you set up a mesh network which relies on people seeding to each other and if everybody in the network only give up 50% of that file then it's impossible for that mesh network to fully transfer a complete copy of that file and it'll therefore collapse.
Now some people hit and run ( leechers ) on a peer to peer network and some people seed many copies, while this still allows the network to operate, it's not at all efficient.
This is why private networks like say TVtorrents ( where you're not allowed to leech and the more you seed, the more credits you get to download other files ) can run at incredibly high download speed, because everybody is giving multiple copies to multiple people.
eg ( on my 24meg line ) Say an episode of Prison break would take an hour or more to download from the Pirate bay, on TVtorrents I can get an episode in around 2mins.
Back to the original question, it doesn't just hurt you to have a low seed ratio, it effects everybody. Share and share alike. - kweee, on 04/08/2009, -5/+23This is the most gayly written article I've ever seen on Gizmodo. And by "gay" I don't mean happy. Or homosexual. Actually, I'm not sure what I mean.
The article sucks.
There, that's better. - AngryBacon, on 04/08/2009, -1/+18I accidentallied 94mb of rar files, is that bad?
- nbcaffeine, on 04/08/2009, -0/+16The ironing is delicious!
- WiseGuy1020, on 04/08/2009, -0/+15And whats more I wrote it and I will get a piece of the proceeds.
- JohnsonGotOwned, on 04/08/2009, -2/+17Actually, not every player will play MP4s. AVI is the most standard video format there is, compatible with every single player there is. It is Audio Video Interlace, after all.
If you really want high quality, go buy a Blu-Ray player and buy the DVD. Us regular pirates are fine with AVI. - rangah, on 04/08/2009, -0/+14Isn't AVI more of a container than a format?
- bigplrbear, on 04/08/2009, -4/+18I must ask, what are the ninja codes for bittorrent?
- Boofster, on 04/08/2009, -0/+14First rule of Fight Club!
- handheldchimp, on 04/09/2009, -1/+15Your name is amazing. It lacks numbers in place of letters or any weird symbols or crap. It also includes the use of the letter "j" in its proper use.
- SirFragsMore, on 04/08/2009, -5/+19YARRRRRRR!
- tyrulz, on 04/08/2009, -5/+18"We're pirates, not douchebags"
this whole article is the most douchebag thing I've read this year - pathouston22, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14Oh hay, I had exclusive access to one of those T3 lines too. Am I special too?
I'd take todays "scene" over yesterdays "scene" anyday. ***** is everywhere now, one site goes down, theres a million more. Back then, you lose your access, you had to start all over again with somebody else. - bitterbug, on 04/08/2009, -0/+13Just tell her theater food isn't only expensive, it'll make her ass huge.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+13Time to get a better ISP.
- mikemehak, on 04/08/2009, -8/+21When I was young I contributed enough to the scene. You know, back when it was an actual scene? The one that stemmed from BBSs and eventually IRC
Back when a server on dual T3s was SERIOS BIZNESS and a TB of space was something to brag about.
The days of FXPing from your high level sites to your smaller private sites are long over.
I do admit, I miss those days. It was harder to break into unless you grew up with the scene. But releases were usually better quality and rarely nuked.
Now I don't waste much of my limited upload contributing back. I try to go back to 1.0 ratio, but not always.
Things just arn't what they used to be. Now my grandma can download pirated movies and every other tom, dick and harry. Why would I want to follow a code with these guys? Using bit torrent doesn't make you part of some elite group of people... - AngryBacon, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14
- Rotzooi, on 04/08/2009, -0/+12At least one person has to be nice enough to share!
