The key is education, especially for the girls. However, that's easier said than done in a country where there's war, the Taliban kill girls who go to school, and even the girls own family may kill her if she "gets ideas above her station". - sbader, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That's an amazing, eye-opening essay, thank you for posting it.
- sbader, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes because we know that American boys never behave badly and make use of their rights in ways that seem shameful.
- thepeacemaker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Not surprised that a nonsensical comment like this eventually crept in. People like you, under the garb of empathy, scramble for excuses to display your bigotry against Muslims. Millions of Muslims proudly send their daughters to school each day in their respective countries. The repression of women in Afghanistan is part of the culture among a specific group of people in that region. There are many in that region who are struggling each day to change that and empower women. However good for nothing hate mongers like you use these atrocities to spread bigotry.
- hackershandbook, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually I was displaying my empathy with women - I note that in Iran the recent "crackdown on un-Islamic clothing" has led to over 12,000 women being cautioned vs 1200 men - if that isn't "gender profiling" then what is?
- coolian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What a repressive culture.
- HenvY, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well that was uplifting!
- Sell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I wish woman in America would respect themselves, other woman, their rights, and men like these woman would if they had just half of what American woman have. American woman have taken their newly (last 50 years or so) aquirred freedoms, rights, and respect and turned it upside down. What I mean is given the same rights I don't think there would be Afghan Lindsey Lohans, Paris Hiltons, Bratz (I hate that image), and "don'tcha wish yo girlfriend was hot like me" *****. I believe they would cherish what American girls take for granted and not spoil it . Makes me wish I could hug everyone of them and treat as a woman should be treated, like a queen.
- hackershandbook, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Nice exposition of the postion of "the religion of peace" with respect to their stance on women's rights
