- MrColdheart, on 11/05/2008, -3/+83I am happy that marijuana reform is picking up speed but I feel people needed to focus more on civil rights reform. I am so pissed that the religious entities in this nation took away California's rights for gay marriage.
This isn't settled. - fury420, on 11/05/2008, -6/+70i smoked a joint, then went home and hit my wife a few times last night.
then... i realised hey, i'm just really stoned, and not married! - Snoosy, on 11/05/2008, -2/+60Looks like all that money spent on anti-marijuana advertising did a lot of good. Glad to see people can see through the ***** and realize pot is not even close to as harmful as it's portrayed to be.
- ZincSaucier, on 11/05/2008, -1/+50thats right man.
massachusetts
change you can breathe in - rossnyc, on 11/05/2008, -3/+36Good....it's ridiculous to put people in jail for having small amount of pot. When's the last time you heard of someone smoking a joint then going home and beating their wife? It's a huge waste of taxpayer's money criminalizing pot smokers.
- effedup, on 11/05/2008, -1/+32Massachusetts FTW.
- Zervaman, on 11/05/2008, -1/+30Dammit California you disappoint me.
First yes on Prop 8 and now no on Prop 5... - northwatuppa, on 11/05/2008, -0/+24Yeah, but it feeds conservative paranoia. The right thrives on paranoia.
- the2989, on 11/05/2008, -1/+23Ultimate fail. Those researchers cherry-picked their data and left out everything that contrasted the results that they were likely paid to come up with. Proved by Fox News of all places.

FTA:
Even very heavy, long-term marijuana users who had smoked more than 22,000 joints over a lifetime seemed to have no greater risk than infrequent marijuana users or nonusers.
“We know that there are as many or more carcinogens and co-carcinogens in marijuana smoke as in cigarettes,” researcher Donald Tashkin, MD, of UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine tells WebMD. “But we did not find any evidence for an increase in cancer risk for even heavy marijuana smoking.” Carcinogens are substances that cause cancer.
The answer isn’t clear, but the experts say it might have something to do with tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is a chemical found in marijuana smoke.
Cellular studies and even some studies in animal models suggest that THC has antitumor properties, either by encouraging the death of genetically damaged cells that can become cancerous or by restricting the development of the blood supply that feeds tumors, Tashkin tells WebMD. - Chicken2nite, on 11/05/2008, -2/+21Well, at least the police aren't actively enforcing sodomy laws (as far as I know). While it sucks that they won't let you use the term married, they aren't putting you in jail for 2-10 years, are they?
My solution would be to ban marriage licenses and have the state only give civil unions to all couples, hetero or otherwise. No more seperate but equal argument to be made and the Christian Right can't petition their government to protect their tradition. - jcaino, on 11/05/2008, -0/+19Prescription medicated is already abuse quite heavily - possibly just as much as alcohol or illegal drugs.
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -0/+18Eh, us Secularists will win in the end. We've got time and science on our side.
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -2/+20...good thing it has never been linked to lung cancer.
- mrfizzle, on 11/05/2008, -1/+19legaliiiiiiiiiize it
and i will advertise it - SemperFly, on 11/05/2008, -2/+19Great news for all you Massachusettian potheads!
High five! - Jones82, on 11/06/2008, -1/+17Who the hell did I hit?!
- brentinkc, on 11/05/2008, -1/+16Is that tha *****' D O double G?
- mrfizzle, on 11/05/2008, -1/+15...good thing people dont smoke as many joints as cigarettes...
- vendeta912, on 11/05/2008, -4/+18Hell yeah I'll smoke to that!!:)
- steppinrazor88, on 11/05/2008, -2/+15i am very jealous of Massachusetts right now
- subterfuge, on 11/06/2008, -2/+13now for LSD and X!
i'm not trolling - they are hyped up to be bad as well, but are actually benign and non-habit-forming. LSD has no side effects if used in moderation. none. - subterfuge, on 11/06/2008, -2/+13harmful? it's been shown to prevent cancer.
- vtbarrera, on 02/03/2009, -1/+12You forgot the "hey hey hey" intro.
- manbeef, on 11/05/2008, -1/+12you seem to have skipped over the study(s) indicating that THC has anti-cancer properties and that smoking weed is far less likely to lead to lung cancer that smoking tobacco.
here's a source, from fox news no less:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,196678,00.html - brentinkc, on 11/06/2008, -0/+11One of these diggers is not like the others...
- inactive, on 11/05/2008, -1/+12Like being an arrogant prick much? I'm what you'd call a doper and I probably make 10 times more money than you programming. We're not all stupid kids just like all of you "non-dopers" aren't any smarter than most of us.
Seriously, get off your high horse, it is safer than drinking beer or smoking cigarettes. - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -1/+12Vaporize everyday.
- subterfuge, on 11/06/2008, -0/+11i have a friend at Boston University, and he said that when the initiative passed, people ran outside and started smoking in the open. totally awesome.
- habbofresh, on 11/05/2008, -8/+18in the near future there may be a rise in reported "prescription abuse"
I'll be shocked, SHOCKED! I tell you! Shocked! - Kinsbane, on 11/05/2008, -0/+9You don't seem to follow. Equal rights had already won in California. The Supreme Court ruled that proposition 22 was in violation of the Equal Protection clause of the California Constitution. This is just further proof that the needs of the many do not outweigh the rights of the few, rights that the few had already had and exercised.
I still have yet to have a religious person (Mormon or otherwise) tell me exactly how gay marriages affect them personally. - emjaymj, on 11/06/2008, -1/+10Don't be an idiot. I'm all for legalization but you most certainly can abuse weed.
- Terrk, on 11/05/2008, -3/+11I'm sure if I was high, I would understand what the ***** you just said.
(Not saying anything bad about pot, but simply stating I'm not high) - subterfuge, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8individual people cannot rally
- winstonsmith303, on 11/05/2008, -1/+9How on Earth did we Lose California??
- AmazingSteve, on 11/06/2008, -1/+9MOAR WEED FOR ALL.
- Mothh, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8Don't blame us. Prop 5 had a lot of crap in it inlcuding allocating $460,000,000 to expand drug treatment programs. The state (like every other state in the union) is broke. I personally don't want to foot the bill for a treatment program, in which, politicians will end up with most of that money.
Give me a straight forward Prop that says it's legal to smoke some Mary Jane and I'll vote Yes.
http://www.smartvoter.org/2008/11/04/ca/state/prop ... - jdubyah, on 11/05/2008, -3/+11Yes. Weed wins. Obama wins.
Success I can believe in! - noumuon, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7i'm fairly certain he was commenting on the 37% who voted against it.
- the2989, on 11/05/2008, -0/+7No there isn't, idiot.
- noumuon, on 11/06/2008, -1/+8actually, you're not going to overdose on lsd. the amount you get is measured in micrograms and it's believed to take a measure in grams to overdose. basically, you'd have to take more hits than you would be able to find. it's one of the least toxic drugs per amount taken for an effect that exists.
- ATLien74, on 11/06/2008, -1/+8If I could have up to an ounce of weed without fear of arrest I'd be so happy.
- the2989, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7Frogles, you retard, most people can't even handle a single joint to themselves because they get too stoned. Maybe you should smoke one and find out what it's like. I'm sure you've wondered, before.
- xB4R7x, on 11/06/2008, -1/+8Not to mention if it were legalized and taxed like cigarettes, with a legal possession/usage age of 21, it could pull in a TON of money for the government. Just sayin'.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/06/2008, -1/+8More carcinogens != higher instances of cancer... or potentially any at all.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
Two joints a day for ten years is A LOT. Try getting drunk every day of your life and see what happens to you.
Not to mention vaporizers completely negate your article since they produce no carcinogens.
"yeah only because its illegal, otherwise it'd be bad..."
HAH! You've never smoked joint have you? You CAN'T chain smoke joints, especially if you actually want to function a little bit. At a certain point you either stop getting any higher, don't want to get any higher, or even just forget how to smoke. In all cases you stop smoking.
Smoke weed once, and realize you've been lied to. Move on with your life. - LethalGeek, on 11/06/2008, -0/+7Funny, you talking about being spoon-feed. His point was if anyone's going to say Pot Is Good, Fox News doesn't have a history of such things.
Not that you seem to want to debate anything, you just want to say what your thoughts are and plug your ears going la la la la. - TunaFishGangsta, on 11/06/2008, -1/+7A lot of these studies are promoted by Government officials who are hell bent on keeping Marijuana cultivation a felony.
If you look around you'll see more studies that equate smoking a small joint with smoking a small unfiltered cigarette. Except you aren't smoking a pack of joints in a day... I hope. lol
That said, I've read reports that smoking marijuana out of a waterbong is significantly better than smoking a joint. And of course like manbeef says, THC has anti-cancer properties.
Ultimately, even if it was horrible for you. It's even more horrible to send these pot-smoking kids to prison where they will learn to be real criminals and face repeated buttrape - on our dime. - MasonZombie, on 11/05/2008, -1/+7or the park...
- HippyInASuit, on 11/06/2008, -1/+7Weed time on Digg's front page?? HELL YEAH!!!
