- SpaceDreamer, on 10/12/2007, -15/+115The young car-burning retards are one of the main reasons the french voted for Sarkozy in the first place.
The more cars are burnt, the more power the french will give to Sarkozy.
Keep up the good work, retards... - BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -14/+108"I wonder what its like to live in a country where people care enough about politics to riot in the streets. People in the US sure are a herd of sheep compared to French when it comes to controversial politics."
Since apparently you don't read much about the world, car-burning has been going on in France for several years. It is not politically motivated, it is motivated by the disillusionment, boredom, and economic situation of France's lower classes, the majority of whom are Muslim.
These Muslims have flocked to France from northern Africa. Unlike the Mexicans who immigrate legally and illegally into America, these Muslim immigrants have little inclination to better themselves through work or education. When Mexicans don't get their way with the US Gov't they don't roam around American streets and burn cars.
The situation in France is dire, and the new, tougher leadership they have just elected is NOT a popular choice among the Muslim minority. Hopefully he will clean France up, create jobs for those Muslims who do want to work, and deport those immigrants who do not. - Godlesswanderer, on 10/12/2007, -9/+92What is it with the French and burning cars?
- fuzzYogHurt, on 10/12/2007, -48/+125I wonder what its like to live in a country where people care enough about politics to riot in the streets. People in the US sure are a herd of sheep compared to French when it comes to controversial politics.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -24/+94Some people should get a life, and don't destroy others cars !!!
- hambend, on 10/12/2007, -5/+73They arrested 592 cars?
Those crazy French... - RogerStrong, on 10/12/2007, -7/+69In other words, it was a normal evening in France.
- yubpro, on 10/12/2007, -14/+60I applaud the French spirit, but I think they are taking the "War on Global Warming" far too enthusiastically.
- alphaswift, on 10/12/2007, -11/+45Dear French rioters,
The people have spoken. Get over it and go get me a croissant. - PatrioticKiwi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+37I agree with killinger here. The word "liberal" is overused when discussing the anti-US, anti-Israel, anti-West brigade. Liberalism used to be a nice word. I bet Thomas Jefferson would be shocked to learn that to be liberal means to be seditious, support foreign aggressors against your country, and support big government. The people we are talking about are the far left, and comprise of socialists, communists, anarchists and an assortment of other political whackos.
- CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Piss, moan, bitch. Give me a job for life that I can't be fired from and 6 weeks of paid vacation and free health care I don't deserve or I'll burn up all your cars. ***** retards. WTF is this the mentality the people are owed and entitled to things? Next time just try mass suicide.
- censorme, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35France is so much more civilized then the U.S. They deal so well with diversity and work out their differences in such a civil manner. Back to reality! France needs the LAPD to come over there and regulate for those pussies.
- PatrioticKiwi, on 10/12/2007, -18/+41>> french-bashing is so 2002. Plus just they elected a hard-right authoritarian, they are an ally now!
I concur. But I hope it occurred to you that the topic at hand is not about France or Sarkozy (I applaud the decision of the French people - Sarkozy was elected with an 85% electoral turnout). We are discussing the odious alliance between the hard left and radical Islam that is causing trouble in France. Both factions rely on burning cars, vandalism, riots, violent behaviour, terror and extortion when they don't get their way. And it's not just France where this is a public concern. We see this happen everywhere else in the west, including (perhaps most obviously) in the UK. - swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -36/+56french-bashing is so 2002. Plus just they elected a hard-right authoritarian, they are an ally now!
- Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Man, those people are getting good at burning cars.
Insurance must be a bitch. - killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -14/+32Socialists would be more accurate...
- swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -15/+33Its kind of a stretch to call France's disenfranchised ghetto youth "liberals."
- FikusErectus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23If you want to see Authoritarian rulers visit Cuba or Venezuela. Mexico and France have legitimate right wing governments fairly elected. In North America and Europe the left riot and protest election result all the time now. They can't stand to loose an election fair and square. Such silly babies!!
- darthJon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23And we are already seeing that...look a the May Day "marches"
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Whether or not they are Muslims is irrelevant to me. I just said that because many of the rioters in France have been Muslims. My "beef" is with cause of this problem, not the effect. The source is the French welfare state. French laws have made it nearly impossible to have economic growth.
1. 60% upper end tax rate.
2. 35 hour work week, with punishments for the business if they go over.
3. Businesses can't fire incompetent workers because of laws.
They are supposedly rioting because of the high unemployment rate. Muslim or not I don't care, what they are is idiots for thinking that more government intervention in their economy is going to help them. - minitrue1984, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20" Yeah they have a leader that is willing to look all the "disenfranchised" (ie muslims) youth and tell them "get along or get out". So of course they riot. "
Bull$hit - they riot because no one has the Balls to stop them. They always riot when they can get away with it.
I mean, ya' don't see them rioting and burning Pickup Trucks in Texas...do 'Ya? - darthJon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Stolen, what? This election was all about immigration and the failure of immigrantes to become French and instead live of the French tax payers.
- kidvicious1973, on 10/12/2007, -11/+25Sign of things to come in the U.S unless the immigration issue is handled.
- flygirl62, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20"At least they believe in something - sounds like all you believe in is spite."
Not at all. I just don't believe that people who think that torching cars is the right thing to do are the kind of people I want to support. It feels a bit like someone trying to convince me of a political agenda via threats.
Now, if they went after the people who were elected or specifically the people who voted for them, then I might look at their cause.
As an example, the Boston Tea Party was destructive, but the reason behind it, at least in retrospect, seems to have some sense to it.
As far as I can tell here, this just seems like pointless destruction... or, trying to get attention simply through pointless destruction.
Then again, I admit that maybe I just don't know the reason. - flygirl62, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20It's always amazing to me how counter-productive people can be when they get angry/upset.
This kind of incident would make me want to vote FOR the person who opposes those who register their protest by destroying property of random people.
I guess they just don't think... which, now that I think of it, would make me value their opinion less. *shrug* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I wish people would stop calling Sarkozy far right. Maybe on the French scale, but in the US he would be to the left of most of our mainstream politicians.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16France's government really needs to sack up and face the unions, those lazy ***** have screwed the entire country out of a decent economy for decades. I think this guy will be good for France in the long run, but the next few years are going to be interesting if he lives up to his platform.
- p51d007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I like how the newly elected french president said he was going to reduce or end social welfare and put people back to work.
In other words, get off your lazy french ass and get a job so that those who work for a living will finally get to keep their paychecks
and not have so much of it stolen to pay for you lazy asses that don't/won't work.
Sounds like a good idea to try in this country. If you won't, or don't get a job, cut them off of all social welfare roles. With the exception of
those who have a DOCUMENTED mental or physical problem which would prevent them from working. In other words, social welfare would go back to being what it was DESIGNED for. Helping those that cannot help themselves, instead of those that are just to lazy to work. - Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Anarchy.
- SultanTravi, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21@basscadet
Illegal Mexicans don't burn cars because they get welfare from the US government, and everything ends up printed in Spanish. - geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15France is in the midst of a change they've needed for the last 50 years, and Sarkozy can bring that change. No more lifetime jobs resulting in no jobs. As someone who took the time to learn and live in France vs listening to others, I find the ignorance here astounding and a bit insulting, people are quick to comment without exerting any effort in learning anything about France. Lazy minds, no better than the people protesting reforms. France is a bit more complex than what you read about in the newspapers. They have plenty of insanely smart, well intentioned people but without the economy to use that intellect. That will change.
- thefaithful, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13So more of us should rise up and damage the property and impinge upon the liberties of those around us? I think not.
These people who do this kind of thing and think they are making some difference against the governement or a corporation need to really look at the way they are going about things and how all it's mostly doing is hurting their fellow citizens. - Boing, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21Someone should at least make some s'mores so all those fires don't go to waste.
- synclare, on 11/26/2008, -5/+16check out this movie "La Haine" (Hate) - it gives a pretty clear view of the cultural issues in France as far as racism, violence, and how cycles of hatred can perpetuate themselves. It's funny too.
here's a trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVYfqoXOqoA - killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23They're not socialists? But they are rioting because the socialist party candidate didn't win. They are young muslims who want to be given jobs by the government.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12 And BTW don't believe that misleading article. Just because the protestors in Paris were mainly white you can still bet your bottom dollar they were not the ones doing most of the car burning, but that Muslims were. I would figure Diggers would be smart enough to know the press will outright lie or twist a story to hide the real truth, apparently not judging by the amount of people who think that the article is stating the car burners were not Muslim.
- flink405, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10They say this is the part of the new French President´s speech that set off many of the car burning riots in France - the part of the speech aimed primarily at Muslims and Muslim women:
"I want to launch an appeal to all those in the world who believe in the values of tolerance, freedom, democracy, humanism.
"To all those who are persecuted by tyranny and dictatorship, to all children around the world, to all women ill-treated in the world, I want to say that the pride and the duty of France will be to be on their side.
"France will be on the side of those Libyan nurses, locked up for eight years.
"France will not abandon Ingrid Betancourt.
"France will not abandon women forced to wear the burka.
"France will not abandon women who do not have freedom.
"France will be on the side of oppressed peoples. It is France's message, France's identity, France's history."

- benmarvin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The actions of the supporters of the losing party should tell you a whole lot about how civil and sane they are.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Six and a half years after Bush got elected President I am still waiting for Alec Baldwin to fullfill his solemn promise to move to nuanced Fwance.
- fsjonsey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Wow, a world leader that doesn't kowtow to islamists, how rare in todays political climate.
- HarryCallahan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Socialists lost huh?
- Scheissen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11lmao at all the people saying "where were the Americans rioting after Bush got elected"! That is so immature. It was a vote. It is a democracy, you can't overthrow the government just because your guy lost. And frenchies here elected that guy by a pretty wide margin so this proves how stupid the french are.
- psyops2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10So much for the so called "tolerant" leftists.
- Cwo655321, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13thats one thing conservatives wont do; destroy property.
at least now i can hate them less as they made a good decision as a country.
go ahead bury, but you know its true. - fsjonsey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Two words to describe this.
LOL ISLAM. - starcrunchfx, on 10/12/2007, -12/+20Beat their ass Sarkozy!
- minox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Man, I should have bought stock in Renault.
- JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's not that they're always Muslims, but that their religion (or lack of) isn't worth mentioning if they aren't.
- fsjonsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Can't you smell the seething and disappointment in the air?
