- Albionshores, on 01/09/2008, -8/+106The gentleman involved in this was 'extreme right-wing activist Itamar Ben Gvir, of the National Jewish Front'. However a valid point was made:
"free speech is not just for lefties."
Indeed it is not. Free speech means just that - everyone has to get it. Start to restrict who can say what and when and speech ceases to be 'free' but 'regulated'.
FTA:
"Police were preparing Tuesday for a string of protests, by both left and right, during the US president's visit. Right-wing activists were expected to try and create a 'human chain' around the walls of Jerusalem's Old City, while left-wing activists were planning to hold a protest in front of the American Consulate in Jerusalem." - inactive, on 01/09/2008, -17/+80Our policy in the middle east is so *****, it's not even funny. It's time to ditch Israel. They are one of the sole reasons for our unpopularity over there- having one "democratic ally" is not going to convince everybody else to abandon their models of government. The only reason we still have ANY ties to Israel is because of the strong Jewish lobbyists with hands in our government at home.

"Two of the suspects were subsequently released by a Jerusalem court on the grounds of freedom of speech. The judge said that depicting a person wearing a keffiyeh did not constitute a racist act, and merely testified to the authors' lack of taste.
The four remaining suspects were later released by police following the court's decision. " - Lane, on 01/09/2008, -9/+34The only thing that surprises me is that this story isn't in America...

This new agreement sets increased levels of US military aid for Israel over the coming decade.
In broad terms, Israel will receive a total of some $30bn (£14.8bn) in military aid, a significant increase over $24bn (£12bn) it received over the past 10 years.
US ARMS AID TO ISRAEL
$30bn over 10 years
1st payment of $2.55bn in 2008
Annual payments rising to $3.1bn by 2011
26.3% can be spent in Israel
Rest must be spent on US arms*****
Military AID is free weapons, 30 billion $ worth for Israel on top of the $24 billion America has already given, to continue, to illegally occupy Palestine and slaughter its inhabitants paid for by the American tax $! - inactive, on 01/09/2008, -2/+17What's with the media's recent overuse of the word "youths"?
- Mercedes383, on 01/09/2008, -2/+17No, Bush said it was because they hate the US's freedom. Surely that's more likely.
/sarcasm (For the many dopes who have trouble with it) - inactive, on 01/09/2008, -0/+14National Jewish Front? Are they related to the Peoples' Front of Judea?
Gets coat. - formergthing, on 01/09/2008, -11/+24Good. We're constantly sticking our neck out for Israel. I can't imagine how anyone over there could hate us or our president (who is fighting their war for them on a constant basis).

- GalacticXenu, on 01/09/2008, -1/+13Oh those are part of it for sure.
- doctorfungi, on 01/09/2008, -1/+13It has uuiU at the end of the URL. I haven't clicked it and I already know it's Rick Roll.
- Tanktunker, on 01/09/2008, -5/+17You are aware that the people who hung anti bush posters were pro-nuking-all-the-arabs, right?
- Rtaylor32, on 01/09/2008, -0/+10Interesting they were arrested because the signs were thought to be a racist act. The Digg submitter inaccurately made it seem that Big Bad Evil Bush was exerting his political hegemony in arresting these poor political protesters. Anyway I like the judges statement that the people had the right to depict the President and other lesser political figures with Islamic headdresses - but it did show a lack of taste...
- hmemcpy, on 01/09/2008, -0/+10The two whwat?!
- Smegzor, on 01/09/2008, -2/+12Only in America. Oh wait..
- ledguitar, on 01/09/2008, -1/+11Could that have been more obvious?
- richbleak, on 01/09/2008, -0/+9You do realize that you lack any sense of logic. His comment was a reply to a comment that said "The Israeli Peace Movement is alive and well". You really need to explain how his comment implies denying anyone free speech.

- tehmoth, on 01/09/2008, -1/+9didn't read the article then?
- banmaster, on 01/09/2008, -4/+12Ever wondered why they hate israel?
Just imagine of the US was annexed by China and the US went along with it and forcibly removed you from your home and erected huge apartheid walls around what used to be your land and you couldn't do a damn thing to stop them.
Thats exactly how non israelies feel about what happened.
They werer kicked out of their homes and their land stolen and then protected by military forces against whom they could never hope to win.
Their men women and children were murdered and whats left of their country has been slowly gobbled up by Israel till on the minutest part of it still remains.
Do a bit of reading before you jump to Israel's defense! Your own racism is far worse than anything you believe you see on the 'other side' because you believe your side is in the right, when the truth is so far from that mindset it stinks! - JigoroKano, on 01/09/2008, -4/+12Among the Christofascist Republicans, Bush actually isn't pro-Israel enough as he has taken a more pragmatic stance about Palestine.
- soupcancooloff, on 01/09/2008, -3/+10I read the title wrong initially: "6 Hanged for Anti-Bush Banners" :-O
- Mikey9oo, on 01/09/2008, -4/+11I am against US-led imperialism and interventionism for Israel, yes. I am not explicitly anti-Israel, however.
- floridiot2, on 01/09/2008, -8/+15It does hurt to be ignorant.
- kooft, on 01/09/2008, -1/+8I disagree. The events surrounding Iran were largely about oil and containment of the Soviet Union and then eventually regional influence (we preferred Saddam to the Ayatollah).
Realistically, Israel is our foothold in the region. Without Israel the Arab states could band together and kick the US out of the region (not necessarily militarily). The only recourse for the US would be invasion or patrol International waters. So, any threat to Israel affects the ability of America to keep its oil supply secure and stable.
If the Middle East didn't have oil, and a few other strategic assets, we wouldn't be so interested in Israel's well being Sorry, but that's the reality of American foreign policy. - pigfister, on 01/09/2008, -11/+18In the official American 9/11 report Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's main motivation behind the attack was Americas continued support for ISRAEL this is in black and white freely available to anyone that can read! The rest of the Arabs don't give a ***** about the Palestinians and never did. They keep the Palestinians homeless and stirred up because it suits their purpose to do so. If they didn't have this issue they'd use another.
- Mikey9oo, on 01/09/2008, -10/+16The silly thing is that Bush is pro-Israel. I am anti-Bush, and I am against our policy in the Middle East, but our policy supports Israel. I do not follow.
- masterm1nd, on 01/09/2008, -3/+9You'd be right if you wold have been more specific and weren't falsely generalizing people...
- thebigsix, on 01/09/2008, -5/+11Well they should feel like Americans; if you don't agree with the Bush agenda, things happen to you.
- banmaster, on 01/09/2008, -5/+11YossiB, ask yourself why we went into those countries and did those things to begin with, and ALL the trails lead back to Israel!

Bush, on the other hand, when he comes around, is treated like the godamn messiah. - zandernat, on 01/09/2008, -6/+11Wake up and smell the slavery, America. Pay your taxes without representation, like good slaves. Volunteer for wars to line the pockets of the ultra wealthy.
