- Sogladtobehere, on 11/09/2008, -3/+223Dugg for moderates!
- Maksx, on 11/10/2008, -1/+67As muslim, this is exactly what I expect to see, people binding together to denounce those foolish extremists. Bravo!
- pjosemroy, on 11/09/2008, -7/+73Though the declaration was late, it is welcome at any point in time. Similar effort to educate young minds in the Madrasas to detest terrorism should be taken care off. Nevertheless, negligible no. of Muslim clergy is already making inroads to enlighten their pupils to be models in the society. If the community can widen the scope, at least in India, Terrorism could be wiped out.
- doublefelix, on 11/09/2008, -9/+73Well, I hope they are well armed.
- doiveo, on 11/09/2008, -0/+62Dugg for rational
- salmanjafri, on 11/10/2008, -2/+53Moderate Muslims have been denouncing acts of terror since 9/11. The mainstream media just doesn't give it much attention.
- dhello, on 11/09/2008, -4/+49It's good to see a Muslim declaration clarifying the difference between radical Islam and more typical Muslims. This is no different than the harsh break between radical Christianity and "standard" Christianity. Most religions follow a golden rule.
Always good to ask: What if people were carrying guns through your house? Would you want to fight them? - dude001, on 11/10/2008, -1/+41they made the same decree 8 years ago as well but media doesn't like normal muslims, so they were ignored.
- sathias, on 11/10/2008, -2/+39Muslims have been speaking out against terrorism for ages, but extremists sell more papers.
- hmunkey, on 11/10/2008, -3/+35It's pretty sad that deciding not to kill people is considered moderate.
- Xihix, on 11/10/2008, -2/+31Most Muslims are moderates. They just don't say anything because they don't see the need to. Seriously, people in the Middle East are just living their lives, they don't care what others think of them.
- Hoodooz, on 11/09/2008, -2/+29The world has been hoping for just such a statement - it's time for moderates everywhere to speak up - extremists, religious and political, will continue their chorus of fear and hate until we unite to push back. Cooler heads must be allowed to prevail.
- dude001, on 11/10/2008, -2/+26They made the same decree 8 years ago as well but media doesn't like normal muslims, so they were ignored.
- 07scupet, on 11/10/2008, -5/+29It's important to note that Islam is a peaceful religion, with peaceful practices, that has received bad press, and been shown in a bad light in the international spotlight. Al-Qaeda and other international Islamic fundamentalist terror organizations are hardly representative of Islam as a whole. Every religion seems to have it's share of religious whack-jobs.
- soogy, on 11/10/2008, -1/+25It's like saying "dude, that is not cool". However, a fatwa in Shi'a Islam put out by a notable ruler/cleric/whatever is more law-like, such as the one that sick bastard Khomeini put out to kill Salman Rushdie.
- trolleyfan, on 11/09/2008, -7/+28Why am I reminded of that Monty Python throw-away line "I'm starting a war for peace?"
- Bartboy919, on 11/10/2008, -1/+20Dugg for great Justice!
- fuzzmeister, on 11/10/2008, -1/+19Have you ever read the Bible?
- safetysealed, on 11/10/2008, -0/+16Yes, to a certain degree, I suppose it does. However, This action against jihadist theology in conjunction with President elect Obama's (hopefully) more responsible foreign policy is likely to make inroads to improving the situation worldwide.
- Sean42, on 11/10/2008, -5/+21I bet Fox News somehow misses this story.
- BeastOfGevaudan, on 11/09/2008, -12/+28So... um... what's a fatwa?
Is it like a religious decree? - n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 11/10/2008, -0/+14It's not late, muslims have been preaching this for a long time. Suicide bombing and killing innocent people in the name of Allah is a sin in Islam. I've been to rallies downtown (Chicago) protesting these horrible acts.
- blackpen2008, on 11/10/2008, -1/+14it's a religious ruling.
- Barackalypse, on 11/10/2008, -5/+17This is a very generic statement, "Islam rejects all kinds of unjust violence". Well, gee, what terrorist has ever said their actions were unjustified? Everyone of them I've ever read about always says their actions are completely consistent with the teachings of Allah and the infidels must be punished for their transgressions.
- Devilboy666, on 11/10/2008, -0/+11Better check again Narut0
- MsMike, on 11/10/2008, -2/+13There are forces of hatred and fear everywhere...we saw some of it at work in our just-completed Presidential campaign. We must all speak up against hatred and fear-mongering and the violence that can be incited by them, wherever and whenever they occur.
- warsongs7, on 11/10/2008, -1/+12@TunaFishGangsta
Do you really think that the Bahai's would have a view of Islam that is not biased? Clearly, both their translation of the Koran and the suggested implicit meanings within are not views held by Muslims worldwide, especially by those who are distanced from the Bahai's more so than other denominations.
It would be like me quoting to a Southern USA evangelical website's views on abortion. - tjallen, on 11/10/2008, -4/+15The majority of Muslims are a friendly, loving religious group. The extremists and militants are the minority who make the news. Thanks for standing up!
- ophello, on 11/10/2008, -0/+11Im sorry, but why do people insist on asking questions like this on the internet?
YOU ARE SWIMMING IN A SEA OF INFORMATION. USE IT.
Wikipedia. Google. They are your friends.
Frieeeeeends. - Rudegar, on 11/10/2008, -0/+10clerics can use heavy armor and blunt weapons and shields :)
- quaxon, on 11/10/2008, -1/+11History of the US
- BotchaMcCoola, on 11/09/2008, -3/+13But does not US Militarism in Muslim countries work against this?
- Mujokan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+10PETA wouldn't like that.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+11Seriously this is probably the best strategy there is. These terrorists are just using Islam as a justification, like red necked Christians do for their own ends. The only way to beat these dangerous idiots is for the sheer weight of decent Muslims to crush the fanatics in their ranks.
- Narishma, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10I doubt there are 1 million muslim clerics.
- scoottie, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10Maybe this is the start of the world growing some balls and standing up to extremist muslims
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10It doesn't at all, what sucks is the dangerous idiots who choose to interpret it for their own ends. And no I am not a Muslim and I also have 22 years military service, so please consider your reply before getting the knives out.
- thcobbs, on 11/10/2008, -0/+9I tired to post this earlier, but digg wouldn't let me.
Thanks dude and salma for point out that it was decreed earlier. I remove my ignorant statement.
Now, I just hope the ***** who want to murder people will listen. - zolthar, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8Interesting comment.
I cannot verify or disprove what you said, but I would expect anyone disagreeing with you to prove you wrong.
I am surprised that you got dugg down with no replies. - satanguy, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8open to interpretation it seems :(
- DrLeePhD, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8They've got the right idea. Whenever we declare a 'war' on something it never works. a 'fatwa' on terrorism is a whole new approach. even a different word! Ought to work much better than our war on terrorism, drugs, etc.
- fuse13, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8so you get to ignore old testament god in favour of hippy lovey guy jesus?
- skunkman62, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8define "unjust violence"
- Kikinou, on 11/10/2008, -3/+10The election of Barack H. Obama is the ultimate victory in the war on terror. Can you imagine middle east youths burning an effigy of him? No way, they must be _really_ confused right now. They've been brought up to believe we are the great satan, white devils, whateva. And then we elect this guy. Wow. Regardless of what he does with his time in the white house, Obama's presidency is the ultimate symbol of our goodness.
- digitronix, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7I've always hated this talk about fighting a war on "terrorism", or fighting a war against any abstract noun. Terrorism exists around the globe at every period of time, so a war against it would be the most expensive endeavor ever imagined. Why don't we just say we're fighting against Osama Bin Laden and make the objectives a bit clearer instead of wasting all this money policing the world?
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -7/+14If they come to America they can use bear arms.
- thepeacemaker, on 11/10/2008, -0/+6FYI, even in Shia Islam, it is not enforceable ...more like "if you pick me as your cleric then this is what you should be doing".
- boydrew, on 11/10/2008, -1/+7I wish these people got more press.... Muslims are seen so negatively in America today b/c of fundamentalist Muslims who suppress rights and promote terrorism. Those extremists are why the "Obama is a Muslim" attacks were so effective to so many Americans. In my opinion, that was one of the major examples of bigotry during this campaign, perhaps more than the race-based variety.
