CBS special from a time when news was somewhat objective.

TOTAL:
37,246 cases
211 deaths - kartman2001, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9Try getting into the Air Force Academy with a 2.0 and see how long it takes before they send you a rejection letter. Most applicants have to get nominated by either a Senator or a Congressmen.
- MrColdheart, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Get help
http://www.erowid.org/ - lukak, on 07/14/2009, -1/+6can someone remind me again why i should be afraid of a strain of flu more mild that the average one?
- ButterBuddha, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5:( hope they get better!
- Supertrout, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4Yeah right, when pigs fly........oh wait.....
- dptechie, on 07/14/2009, -1/+5Yep it's a terrible school. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/coll ...
- kylere, on 07/15/2009, -1/+4More people died of the immunization for swine flu than died of it in 1976. Don't suffer a knee jerk reaction thanks to the media needing to fill a 24/7 news cycle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swine_influenza
- kartman2001, on 07/14/2009, -1/+4What is wrong with Colorado Springs? I loved it there.
- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 07/15/2009, -0/+3Like what? The Conspiracy shot? I've gotten anthrax, smallpox, Hep A&B etc and even an experimental pneumonia shot.... if anything I almost never get sick now. They try and shove the flu nasal injector at you every year, but there's no secret trial of whatever they poke you with and don't tell you about.
- psilly, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3You are hilarious. Too funny.
- bschonec, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2That would be swine flew, wouldn't it?
I see what you did there. - lhbaker, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Yeah, clean air and mountain views suck.
- stonebear, on 07/14/2009, -2/+4Because of it's potential for lethality demonstrated in Mexico, which may-or-may not be refined and expressed as the virus continues to adapt to people and animals in other countries. I don't dispute it's been trumped up for political and corporate reasons, but a serious pandemic does remain a distinct possibility.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -3/+5"The second wave of the 1918 pandemic was much deadlier than the first. During the first wave, which began in early March, the epidemic resembled typical flu epidemics."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic
You're welcome. - stonebear, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2And 1917.
- swoopdog, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2I think someone is confusing enlisted and officers and I believe some other branch of the military
- hydroplane, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2"The wars of the future will not be fought on the battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today remember always your duty is clear: To build and maintain those robots."
- NoTiG, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Because vaccines *can* actually cause the disease they are trying to prevent
- wtrwlkr, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2"Warrior Airmen" .... you're been drinking too much air force cool aid, haven't you?
- thedrizzle21, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Why did you bother stealing a Bill Hicks joke if you were only going to ruin it?
- Skurt, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Nope, USAF, but this was back in the '70s so it's been a while.
1. The Name Doolie is derived from a chick that easily gets on her knees it was invented by a local Northern Jersey celeb.
2. Sparse, pubescent facial hair, grown out in an attempt to fashion a genuine beard. Often sported by one who is oblivious to his lack of facial hair, or by a high school student eager to grow a full beard.
3. Doolies Or Dooleys. Disabled people within a college.
I guess Rainbows are out ;) - ThatsDope, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2i like turtles
- noctu, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2right now? you have nothing to be afraid of unless your obese as its mostly fatal to fat people and yeah before going bury happy google it.
- DirtyVicar, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1I thought "pings" (or "pingers" actually) referred to the noise the dog tags made.
- kylere, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1That is why I listed the link, which has the numbers. Perhaps if you had closed your mouth and opened your eyes, you would have realized this simple fact.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2Hey man, nice shot.
- howea, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2So what was the projected death rate if the vaccine wasn't administered?
If you want to bandy around statistics, don't sound like a 2 bit politician who offers half the facts. - manifest020, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1Because the government wants to quarantine and vaccinate you.
- 1x253, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2Tuskegee Airman 2009
- anotherjack, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1It's a computer program. It's supposed to give that disclaimer. Look at the ***** thing - its half dictionary keyword spam. It creeps me out that someone is doing this. Testing an algorithm for human speech, without declaring the test, or the purpose, seems sinister. While it's obvious it isn't dangerous - but my fear is that eventually it will be understood, then believed, then listened to.
- frequentFlyer, on 07/14/2009, -2/+3Great school, horrible location.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1That which does not kill you makes you stronger.
- Skurt, on 07/14/2009, -3/+3Doolies? WTF? When I was there we called 'em Rainbows because until they got their uniforms they were wearing all kinds of colors.
And after uniforms, they were Pitts or Pings..
Person in Technical Training
Person In Need of Graduation.
Doolies? - mrzisme, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0How dare you jest me. I shant' be jest'd.
- callinthelaw69, on 07/14/2009, -2/+2Well this is *****. My brother is at a soccer camp at Air Force right now......guess I'll have it too in about a week :(
- swoopdog, on 07/14/2009, -3/+3meanwhile every day in Basic Military Training enlisted Airmen are getting dorm flu and even more severe and no one bats an eye add one part wannabe officer and sensational flu strand = digg story
 warrior airmen get over *****, so get over it. - swoopdog, on 07/14/2009, -2/+2boring internet meme out of place and unneeded and pretty old and stupid way to go you fail at teh internetz
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -1/+1a lot of people compare this disease to something much more deadly and saying the media is blowing it out of proportions. there are two reasons why swine flu is more news worthy and a little more scary.
1. other diseases such as tuberculosis are killing people who are in third world nations, but we understand it and has contained its spread in the first world.
2. this new disease is less understood and could potentially become a huge problem for the first world. - wordoftruth, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0i need to check on the family
- NoTiG, on 07/15/2009, -2/+2would be interesting to see if any of these people were shot with any injections prior to the outbreak.
- FritoPendejo, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0Yeah "Warror Airmen" is funny. He does have a point though. You literally have to sweep all the dust in those dorm rooms up with your hands every night.
- wordoftruth, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0wow, this is crazy, apparently this is true.
- mrzisme, on 07/14/2009, -2/+1Cheney's only allowed one more address, and that's the one in which he gets on air, doesn't say a word, pulls out a desert eagle .50 and blows his brains out, his blood and skull fragments forming the shape of a oil barrel on the wall behind him because he's an oil monger till the bitter ***** end.
- fortheworld, on 07/14/2009, -3/+2Here's the worldwide confirmed figures:
Cases: 94512
Deaths: 429
Mortality Rate: 0.48%
Avian Flu however, is still kicking serious ass with at least 30% mortality. Egypt has 81 cases with 27 deaths. - modifiedbears, on 07/14/2009, -3/+2Unless it has mutated into something different this stupid disease doesn't deserve to be on the front page of anything.
- borez, on 07/14/2009, -4/+3Read this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8150609.stm
Notice the line "But by the end of the year, there should be enough vaccine in the UK to immunise half the population, he said. "
Mass inoculation for a small, relatively harmless flu strain... reach your own conclusions. -
