- Lucas123, on 05/15/2009, -3/+107Sad. His wife died and he felt a part of him died with her, hence, he re-enlists -- at age 52 no less. But he went out as a soldier serving his country, which seems to be the way he wanted it.
- add1802, on 05/15/2009, -3/+67He's like Rocky in real life. Fight, survive, then go back and fight again.
Gotta admire a guy like that. - johnsmith555, on 05/16/2009, -11/+52This guy is a hero
R.I.P - michaelblea, on 05/16/2009, -3/+38Sounds like he lived his life for two things he believed to be very important, his wife and his country.
- hookedupphat, on 05/16/2009, -6/+33He survived one needless war only to die in another one. This country owes you sir.
- richmondlow, on 05/16/2009, -2/+21I salute you Maj. Hutchison. May you rest in peace.
- Plant11, on 05/16/2009, -4/+22This guy led an epic life. I dont know what the character arc would be for a film of his life, but it would be beautiful. He sounds like he really made use of his time on this planet.
- redfox2600, on 05/16/2009, -8/+23At least he's now with his wife
RIP Major
you served your country twice, now be at peace. - masterc, on 05/16/2009, -1/+16Article says he enlisted at 59, not 52.
- DarkShroud, on 05/16/2009, -3/+17Hey CoD4, what's it like to be so filled with hateful contempt that you can no longer be a decent human being?
- ghatid, on 05/16/2009, -6/+19You're a real ass. I don't care if you don't support the war, but you can blame the troops. ***** you *****.
- alamedaman, on 05/16/2009, -2/+14Damn... got through the jungles of Vietnam and almost through Iraq... crazy
- markf3388, on 05/16/2009, -1/+13Or Rambo!!!
- Junkyarddawg, on 05/16/2009, -1/+12A 60-year-old vietnam vet and university psychology teacher on active combat duty? With indigenous forces?
They might as well have given him a "I'm With The CIA" t-shirt. - add1802, on 05/16/2009, -2/+13@CoD4, there's a time and a place for your argument, and then and there diggers will respond as they always do.
This, however, is neither the place nor time to launch the argument you're trying to start. get a life and grab a heart while you're at it.
one more thing: by calling someone retarded for their beliefs you come across more close minded than those you attempt to belittle. A lot of diggers are smart, and while an obvious majority does not believe in an afterlife, most at least respect someone else's beliefs. - maz2331, on 05/16/2009, -0/+9Minor point:
He was an officer, and officers don't enlist at all. They are instead commissioned, and while they can resign, technically the commissions are in force for life. - JustMatt, on 05/16/2009, -0/+8Yo I think you missed the sarcasm. I highly doubt he is seriously happy that this war has promoted fun statistics.
- fury420, on 05/16/2009, -2/+10I'm sure members of the Iraqi Army are Army soldiers, yes.
- Mike17102, on 05/16/2009, -4/+12At least he was able to die doing what he wanted his life to be about. Few people are that lucky.
- whatit, on 05/16/2009, -5/+13What is wrong with you?
- CoD4, on 05/16/2009, -4/+12old men's game played by young men
- Beowulf2112, on 05/16/2009, -1/+8The point was that be it shouldn't be happening at all... Instead of the news covering whats actually happening, we get stories like this. I wasn't trying to incite any resentment from anyone...
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -1/+8Yes, as the title implied, they aren't counting Iraqis. Thank-you.
- hawkspur, on 05/16/2009, -1/+7Was edited. Original comment didn't say soldiers.
- nepidae, on 05/16/2009, -4/+10rip
- sonnybobiche, on 05/16/2009, -3/+9@biergutlol: I bet people don't really like being around you very much.
If you ever met a Vietnamese person who came to this country, you would know how important it was to them and how angry they are at the communists who took over their country. You don't realize that, because everything you know about Vietnam you learned from hollywood. - nepidae, on 05/16/2009, -1/+7interesting quote, but thankfully not true.
- HBZ55, on 05/16/2009, -3/+9How is he a hero? He fought for his country, true, but that doesn't make him a hero.
- Kaegro, on 05/16/2009, -0/+5Bulldog is a troll. resorting to childish name calling ( and alot of it ). At the end of the day, the dead soldiers are feuling up the statistics with their lives. pointlessly. Dying for your country in such a way is pretty ignorant if you think of why the war started in the first place.
- aijazbaig1, on 05/16/2009, -3/+8CHENEY should perhaps have taken some inspiration from this...nah...he'd better take his 6th deferment instead :)
- hawkspur, on 05/16/2009, -2/+7Because the Iraqis are Army soldiers right?
- Beowulf2112, on 05/16/2009, -13/+18I'm so happy we can tabulate fun little statistics like this about a pointless war, one where American men and women die for a frivolous cause...
- Mercedes383, on 05/16/2009, -1/+6Attack the leadership, not the soldiers, boy.
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -1/+6Bulldoger you are a foolish child. He was being sarcastic but you won't understand that because to you its just a matter of 5 secs (fun little statistic), you get to show your forced anger (indirectly trying to prove how patriotic you are) and then go and watch the cheesy acting of Horatio of CSI Miami.
- PeppermintPig, on 05/16/2009, -0/+4It's too bad the politicians treat it like a game.
- Bulldogge16, on 05/16/2009, -0/+4No, I get that he is using sarcasm. My point is think about what you are saying before you say it. Not the story for sarcasm. Your opinion of a governmental action is one thing. To call a soldiers death a fun statistic...that is sad.
It is a sad day we live in people. When your so blinded in hate that you can not see your own lack of compassion. - cotl, on 05/16/2009, -0/+4What exactly have you done for our country?
- annenk38, on 05/16/2009, -6/+10He who lives by the sword dies by the sword - JC
- AustinHannah, on 05/16/2009, -2/+6STFU and suckle back on to your Momma's tit?
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -1/+5Big time...
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -1/+4I think both of you can ***** off.
I could go on and on about the thousands upon thousands of innocent people murdered under Saddam's regime, I could tell you about the vast chemical and biological experiments that he conducted on his own people, including 39 school children in a small town south of Baghdad. I could tell you, regardless if you agree with the war or not, how many freedoms the Iraqi people have enjoyed as a result of Saddam no longer being in power.
I can tell you these things, because I listen to my family and friends who have gone over there and risked their lives for the sake of other people's freedom. A soldier doesn't join for a paycheck. You don't risk your life solely to collect pay (which, by the way, isn't that much if you consider the risk).
Fact is, you don't have to agree with the war - you can even dislike our service men and women. But I'd be willing to bet that if you ever did tell them to their face that their comrades deserved to die, you'd have to say it standing behind armed policemen and a concrete barrier. - add1802, on 05/16/2009, -1/+4not awful just insensitive and not funny
- asaone, on 05/16/2009, -0/+3war is not a young man's game it is not a game, it is the realist thing you will ever do. It is sad anyone has had to die in Iraq.
- maddonkey, on 05/16/2009, -0/+3biergutlol, did you know him or are you spewing *****? This is a moot argument with you, he accomplished more than you you ever will.
Did you read the article, he was also a university psychology teacher. - multiformat, on 05/16/2009, -2/+5This guy was a real man, keep playing with your nintendo and little peeny, boy.
- trevor98, on 05/16/2009, -3/+6This death is unfortunate and I have nothing but respect for those in uniform. However, the media treats the death of a soldier like something bizarre. Death is a soldier's job- his, theirs, or ours. This individual placed his bet and took his chances.
- Peach3s, on 05/16/2009, -2/+4"all the real soldiers are dead" slaughterhouse five quote
- Rudegar, on 05/16/2009, -1/+3maybe his wife was named "AAAAAAAAAAdriaaaaan!!!" ? :P
- speedbrown, on 05/16/2009, -6/+8RIP....Thank you for your service
- Mercedes383, on 05/16/2009, -1/+3Or go to Heaven for the weather and Hell for the company.
