- Trumpetman4eva, on 03/09/2009, -3/+95The pastor who died is my neighbor about 3 houses down. I hope his wife and 2 kids are going to be okay. I know several people at this church and my thoughts are with them all.
- Wazdinero, on 03/08/2009, -2/+84Few more details to the story: The pastor died. The assailant approached the pastor during the service and shot at him, the pastor attempted to shield himself with his bible. The people attending the service thought it was a skit until the assailant continued shooting. His gun jams and 2 of the churchgoers rush the him. The gunman then stabs the 2 churchgoers and himself. No one at the church knows who the gunman is or why he killed the pastor.
- Christianptriot, on 03/08/2009, -32/+95I pray for our nation, and for the members of this congregation. Such a tragedy.
- drowningfish, on 03/09/2009, -3/+46wtf? Go away.
- Jackson0909, on 03/09/2009, -8/+49@NoscoTelpsum
The simple fact of the matter is you were better off keeping your thoughts to yourself regarding Christianptriot's statement. The guy was not forcing anything down anyone's throat and was not being incendiary.
You come off as self-absorbed ***** who seems more close-minded than the people of faith you speak out against. - wontstoptalking, on 03/09/2009, -3/+39That's the dumbest and most disrespectful thing I've read on Digg all day.
And remember, this is Digg. - Ramenboy005, on 03/09/2009, -18/+51It saddends me that the atheists on this website will take any opportunity they can...even during a tragedy like this to spout their views....
sure this may be the place.....
but it is definately not the time - prrp, on 03/09/2009, -17/+48"The suspect was stabbed by parishioners who wrestled him to the ground."
FINALLY! Instead of standing around passively letting someone kill them, people actually did something. Those that wrestled him down were brave. Go Christians! - akshay626, on 03/09/2009, -1/+31That guy who shot 5 people at a Illinois church
- batmanz, on 03/09/2009, -2/+31More info from MSNBC:

Also, some of these comments make me sick, I don't know why I keep going to comments pages on Digg... - Achaean, on 03/09/2009, -1/+30What does this have to do with the shootings in Illinois?
My advice is take your political opinions to the comment section of an article that is RELEVANT, you ass. - batmanz, on 03/09/2009, -11/+40Never miss an opportunity to point out your snobbish opinion, eh?
- kinseyincanada, on 03/09/2009, -2/+31some of these comments are idiotic.
- coheedcollapse, on 03/09/2009, -1/+28Regardless of religion or lack thereof, no one deserves to be taken before their time. I might be an atheist, but the people who witnessed this horrible event as well as the victims and families of the victims are in my thoughts.
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -5/+29@NosceTelpsum
I understand atheist view points, but this IS NOT THE TIME FOR THIS. If one of your family members just died, do you want me coming up to your door grilling you about your beliefs? - xptweakerntn, on 03/09/2009, -19/+43Interesting fact, at my church is is well known that several responsible people carry. It has never created any problems.
- trevorcarpenter, on 03/09/2009, -1/+24Thank you for some perspective! A clear reminder that gun laws do not keep people safe.
- Gryffydd, on 03/09/2009, -3/+25A lot of people do. I do. And do you know why? Because lunatics like this guy sometimes decide to.
- AgeofMastery, on 03/09/2009, -2/+23You hijacked a thread about a church shooting to post that *****?
You are disgusting. - GABACALM, on 03/09/2009, -0/+21Uh, it was with the gunman's own knife that he tried to stab the parishioners with. I wouldn't consider taking down a man who is shooting innocents as 'crazy', but I guess we'll just have to disagree.
- flyingclutchman, on 03/09/2009, -4/+25Way to blame the victims
- browwiw, on 03/09/2009, -0/+21Also illegal in most states? Didn't seem to hinder the shooter in this case much...
- offrdbandit, on 03/09/2009, -1/+21Had knives been outlawed decades ago he wouldn't have been able to stab two other people.
Idiot. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -8/+28Deplorable. Violence is never the answer.
- pushforpeace, on 03/09/2009, -3/+23I will pray for them tonight.
Anybody else reading this, if you could, please do the same. - bearcat8543, on 03/09/2009, -1/+21i love your comment history. you sound like a lunatic.
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -7/+26Wow. How humanist of you. How compassionate. I'm sick of atheists.
People are dead Telpsum...and you are acting a fool.
20 bucks says you wouldn't have the balls to say that on a Halal thread.
What a parasitic dredge on society you are.
Can't even afford a kind word during a tragedy.
You're a total waste of Mendelian Genetics. - plecostomus, on 03/09/2009, -6/+25Psychopaths suck ass.
- horseradish2, on 03/09/2009, -4/+22What an enlightened attitude. Clearly your understanding far surpasses the rest of us and I await learning more from your experienced views of the universe.
- cJw314, on 03/09/2009, -5/+23I think it's awfully arrogant to assume you know so much about life, the universe, and everything, Telpsum. Just because you disagree with a practice/mindset/belief doesn't make it pointless, just different from your own.
Take your asshatedness somewhere else, ya ***** troll. - BioHMMWV, on 03/09/2009, -7/+25And when you opened your mouth, everyone's went down.
- joshmoney, on 03/09/2009, -2/+19"And I wonder if this will change the Christian Conservative Right's perspective on gun control."
Good point. People should be able to arm and defend themselves in any situation, including church. - wontstoptalking, on 03/09/2009, -15/+32Thank you, good sir, for your prayers. I am with you on this one.
Freedom of religion and belief is not something to be persecuted in this country. Of course, the Internet isn't country, but since this happened in Illinois where I live I'm going to say it counts as the USA in this case.
In fact, saying things like "Your pretend man in the sky will do nothing" is kind of being an *****. You can believe whatever you want. But denouncing another person's religion? Freedom of speech is, ahem, a "god given right," but please do not abuse that right to be an *****. - Tippx, on 03/09/2009, -6/+23I cant stand fonts where capital i (I) and lowercase L (l) look identical. Illinois reminds me of this frequently. Ill find someone who agrees with me eventually.
- lexington86, on 03/09/2009, -8/+25Really? So you're saying that you know 100% for fact that an armed citizen would not have been able to stop the criminal? That's a pretty arrogant statement, if you ask me.
- offrdbandit, on 03/09/2009, -1/+18"a high caliber, fully automatic assault rifle capable of headshot accuracy up to three hundred yards."
You don't know much about guns, do you? - Kondakarian, on 03/09/2009, -10/+26In Illinois it's illegal to carry a gun anywhere. The gunman should've known that. He's not allowed to carry the gun concealed, nor is he allowed to bring it into a place of worship.
- browwiw, on 03/09/2009, -0/+16Yeah, if only he wasn't a criminal/lunatic that didn't care about laws...
- savethehobos, on 03/09/2009, -1/+17This isn't the first christian church shooting to make the news. If anyone remembers the Church about 5 or 6 years ago...maybe more...can't remember... that was shot up in Ft. Worth, TX something similar happened. Middle of service man comes in and kills a bunch of people then puts the gun to his head and kills himself. Houses of worship whether it be christian, muslim, hindu, buddha, whatever, shouldn't ever be a place where violence should spill into. It shouldn't happen, but its a sad thing that does.
- badqat, on 03/09/2009, -4/+20Bit of a difference between the example of turning the other cheek and people being shot. That's way too literal an interpretation of what Jesus was saying.
- imightbewrong, on 03/09/2009, -2/+17yeah mtg101, you've misunderstood what "turn the other cheek means". It means not to act in vengeance, it doesn't mean willingly let others harm you.
- SQLserver, on 03/09/2009, -1/+16I think you just won the "Biggest Jerk of the Year" award. Congrats.
- josh1413, on 03/09/2009, -3/+18Yeah because outlaws like him could never possibly buy a shotgun to kill people..........
- imightbewrong, on 03/09/2009, -9/+22who brings a gun to church lol?
- Khast, on 03/09/2009, -0/+13All right, who let the lunatic out of the asylum? I pay my taxes, I want better security installed in the loonie bins.
- coheedcollapse, on 03/09/2009, -6/+19There are idiots on both sides ramenboy. It has nothing to do with "the atheists" in the same way the stuff that Fred Phelps does has nothing to do with "the Christians".
Hell, I'm an atheist and I still think this is a horrible thing, just like the news of any people getting killed is a horrible thing. - SkittlesUSA, on 03/09/2009, -3/+14No, violence is at times necessary to achieve justice.
Granted, violence was absolutely unnecessary in this situation, but violence can be the answer to tyranny and injustice. - wontstoptalking, on 03/09/2009, -3/+14The above comment is aimed at "thelastcivilian" in the replies to NosceTelpsum.
- TrevorBelmont, on 03/09/2009, -0/+11Spam + *****= buried and reported.
