- james188foster, on 04/13/2009, -1/+23All that matters is that nobody was killed or badly hurt.
- Xaevier, on 04/13/2009, -0/+19That sucks, but can we actually get some information on maybe why the buildings burst into flames?
Article was basically "So some stuff burned down, people are sad..." - inactive, on 04/13/2009, -3/+21Some sad stuff for Easter Sunday

- Kohaxx, on 04/13/2009, -7/+15It's not the liberals that hate you, it's just hateful people on the internet. Both sides have their idiots, I wouldn't wish a fire on anyone regardless of religion.
-A social liberal - robbob, on 04/13/2009, -6/+14this is sad, but not as sad as the Easter of 2001, the day Joey Ramone died :'[
- BoneheadFarker, on 04/13/2009, -3/+10It has nothing to do with liberalism. Trolls come out in every internet forum...
- HEAVYisSPY, on 04/13/2009, -1/+8haha.
- Kohaxx, on 04/13/2009, -2/+9'Some of the blasts were from propane tanks. Others, she said, seemed to be cottages just exploding into flames. "It was like explosions every two minutes."'
Seems rather suspicious to me. Also what's up with so many propane tanks!? - kh99, on 04/13/2009, -5/+11'Bohy stood in almost the exact spot Sunday as she did in August 1945, when another fire devastated the property, claiming about half of the 440 cottages there at the time, and causing about 1,000 people to run for their lives. "I thought, 'Oh no, not again,'" she said Monday.'
I could see once being an accident, but twice in 64 years? I suspect foul play. - smokeyjw, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5The call came in as a small brush fire. The houses there are very close together and with the windy conditions the fire was pretty much unstoppable.
- serif69, on 04/13/2009, -10/+15Wow, digg, you don't disappoint. I came here expecting insensitive idiots to be mocking religion in the midst of a devastating fire, and there sure are a bunch of you, aren't there? It's shameful that we have to wade through this crap just to find decent humanity whenever the word "Christian" is uttered.
I'm just thankful that it was off-season and nobody was hurt or killed, and I sincerely hope that this was an accident. - mksmothers, on 04/14/2009, -1/+6somehow this is all George Bushes or Obama's fault. I just know it!

- mksmothers, on 04/14/2009, -2/+6Since god knows everything in advance and can do anything and created everything, everything is his plan. Cancer: God's plan. Found golf ball: God's plan. Stupid kid robbing liquor store: God's plan.
- therealjedipunk, on 04/14/2009, -1/+5Alton Bay has had some issues with fire in the past few years. There used to be this awesome community center right on the lake that my band and I played a sweet punk/metal show there and then a few months later it burned down. Really nice lady owned it too...I felt really bad for her and her family.
- Ratteler, on 04/13/2009, -9/+13"Honestly, can't you take your hate and put it aside when people are suffering?"
Yeah? Where do you think I GOT the "God is punishing you!" line from? From "good christians" when I was suffering.
"As Ye Sow, So Shall Ye Reap!", bitches. - mksmothers, on 04/14/2009, -1/+5Where's your god now?
- dartmanx, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Only the idiotic ones.
- dartmanx, on 04/14/2009, -1/+4If God wanted to punish us, I doubt he would be doing it via a troll on Digg.
- adc86, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3...maybe they had gas stoves or heat?
- Titan615, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3Yeah that area was w/o power for a while too. The fires damaged utility poles, and NH Co-op couldn't get in until the firefighters had finished.
I work for my local ISP, and we hadn't heard about the fire so we called a tech and he was like, "can't talk right now, my house is on fire!".
//Crazy stuff. - thetrev, on 04/13/2009, -5/+8Happy icon is happy.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -1/+4No, those are the mormons.
- vaconex, on 04/13/2009, -1/+4For those who are unfamiliar with cottages and campgrounds, some info.
There are no fire sprinklers because these are often small dwellings in the mountains or desert. These are not single family dwellings or apartment buildings.
Propane is used to heat the building and water. It is another type of fuel that is used as getting natural gas to these remote cottages/villages/houses is more expensive.
Dwellings can often explode in a forest fire if the fire superheats the air in the area. If the tempature of the air outside or inside heats beyond a certain tempature the building can combust, implode or explode and the water hearters may also explode depending on the speed and tempature of the fire. - mksmothers, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2Bohy did it.
- amk29j, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2What about preparedness? Can you not thank that?
- dartmanx, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3I'm sorry you were treated badly, and hope things improved for you.
- konsole, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2My family owned one of the cottages on the campground in the area that got burnt. Still not sure if our cottage completely burned or what. My parents are traveling there soon to check it out. That campground is ancient and ya there have been a couple bad fires there in the past. The problems with fires has to do with a couple factors including the cottages only being 10-15' apart, the old "not fire retardant" condition of the building materials, and many of the cottages didnt have concrete foundations so the wood siding is frequently found running right to the ground. I'd say about 85% of the cottages in that area have got to be 74 years or older. We were driving home to Massachusetts and were in New York when we got a call about it and to tell ya the truth we werent really that devastated by it. It sucks and its a big loss when you add it all up, but I would bet that no cottage was worth more then 100k and I assume there is some kind of insurance involved. Also nobody really had nice stuff in those cottages. All the stuff we had in our cottage was all just second rate stuff that was really old and had little to no monetary value. In terms of the propane tanks, ya most if not all of the cottages had their own propane tanks to fuel their stoves and ovens and whatnot. From what it looks like I would say the fire started on a small hill between the lake and the cottages were somebody may have thrown their cigarette out the window and the high winds that day combined with rather dry conditions just ignited a brush fire and blew the flames up the hill towards the cottages. So ya kinda sucks because I had been going up there every summer for 25 years and my close and extended family has had ties to the campground for probably well over 75 years. I have some great memories of those cottages and will miss them, but from the ashes will probably arise a much more sturdy and fire resistant building plan. My 2 brothers have since moved to Pennsylvania and I don't have much desire to hang around that campground at the age of 27, so basically just my mother spending maybe 3-5 weeks of the year up there and my father maybe 3-5 weekends all helped this not be a really devastating loss. By the way that guy Russ Sample mentioned in the article is a friend of our family and he use to be the fire chief for the town and his permanent residence is just beyond what sounds like the edge of the damage, so lucky for him.
- depro9, on 04/13/2009, -2/+4kinky!
- HEAVYisSPY, on 04/13/2009, -4/+6yeah, He doesn't know what he's doing.
We need to elect a new Zeus. - metalgel, on 04/13/2009, -5/+7it's not offensive to bring up the oddity of this happening. its a perfectly legitimate question as in "why the ***** did it happen to you guys?" considering their belief.
i guess it's just considered impolite because it feels like nose rubbing. - tonage, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2Isn't it time to do your homework?
- BossKey, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3It means you must bow to your new god, Hank Hill.
- 13att13, on 04/14/2009, -2/+4A.K.A. the double standard of christianity: "We'll tread on your beliefs but don't tread on ours!"
- rjshatz, on 04/14/2009, -2/+3I'm happy to see these comments, Digg. I'm really glad that, even though the general populous on this site are liberal atheists, you can respect the situation for what it is.
