- thegrantman, on 10/05/2009, -3/+76They should go to the store and bison bleach.
- Jokaroni, on 10/05/2009, -1/+62Should have called Mike Rowe.
- dienaked, on 10/05/2009, -1/+55Restore power. Refreeze. Then clean.
- captainhorseboy, on 10/05/2009, -0/+45well i could only carry 250 pounds of it back to the wagon...
- frenchfries11, on 10/04/2009, -0/+40What a waste, bison meat is delicious.
- replaysMike, on 10/05/2009, -1/+24"The mayor said he spent two tours of duty in Vietnam and could not recall smelling anything as bad."
Best line from article. ***** meatpackers. - hangglide, on 10/05/2009, -0/+22You obviously have never smelled the stench of a burning carcass.
- amnesiac87, on 10/05/2009, -0/+19The inescapable stench that 44 tons of rotting meat would create? I would have left town, and people could have tracked me by the trail of vomit. Maybe it's too early in the morning to read about mass amounts of rotting flesh, but I felt sick when I was reading it.
- emailowndme, on 10/05/2009, -1/+19Anyone else find it entertaining that he left town and founded Noah's Ark Processors LLC?
- jasvll, on 10/05/2009, -1/+17Didn't the ***** of the story send those two, not the city?
- inigomntoya, on 10/05/2009, -0/+15Two Oxen have died.
Inigomntoya has Typhoid. - peestandingup, on 10/05/2009, -4/+19Are these people retarded? They sent a couple "cleaners with mops" to clean up 44 tons of rotting gooified meat that was covered with maggots & flies. Not only is that incredible stupid, its probably a serious health concern.
"Gave up after 2 days" did they?? Hmm, I wonder why. - bradleyland, on 10/05/2009, -0/+14Only to die of dysentery.
- kingofinternet, on 10/05/2009, -6/+19a crooked kosher meatpacker?
say it ain't so. - Iceman21, on 10/05/2009, -3/+15I think a lawsuit is in order, the owner should have moved the frozen meat somewhere it could be stored, gave it away for free if it was not going to be sold or cleaned up the damned mess, why is the owner not held accountable for this mess of a situation????
That amount of meat could have fed a ***** of homeless people, starving people and generally people in need of food.
Instead it was left to rot, makes me physically sick to hear. - aquapete, on 10/05/2009, -0/+12what did the mother and father buffalo say to their boy when he went to college?
Bison. - davidg11, on 10/05/2009, -0/+11Why didnt they just dump it on the owners home property? Then he could see how much it wasnt a health hazard?
- sgvprelude, on 10/05/2009, -0/+11I'm surprised they lasted 2 days.
- serif69, on 10/05/2009, -3/+13Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
- inactive, on 10/05/2009, -1/+11dienaked for mayor!
- crazy0, on 10/05/2009, -0/+7european descendants still wasting bison, not suprised
- fhernand, on 10/05/2009, -0/+7Fill it with maggots. Cover with earth. Sow and grow some grass. Fill it with bisons. Repeat.
- borez, on 10/05/2009, -1/+7That stinks.
- TimtheTaxMan, on 10/05/2009, -0/+6I see that this comment is in line with your long history of insightful and useful comments on digg.
/s - StarNosedMole, on 10/05/2009, -0/+5It was originally boxed, yes. In the article they mentioned that the bags (in the boxes) had burst. So the nasty decomposition juices would be frozen to the floor in this plan of action. zombiecarlin -1
- frenchfries11, on 10/05/2009, -0/+5There's a place in Tallahassee called Ted's Montana Grill, they sell bison burgers and they are a bit more expensive than normal burgers, but damn the beef is so juicy and good...it can't be beat.
- docz0r, on 10/05/2009, -4/+9Ohhh... I see what you did there. hahaha
- downneck, on 10/05/2009, -0/+5+1
i wouldn't have made it within 300 feet of the building - zombiecarlin, on 10/05/2009, -2/+7It was already boxed.
- c0re1337, on 10/05/2009, -1/+6Ammonia + Bleach = Bad idea.
- davidg11, on 10/05/2009, -0/+4Want a great tax/law environment, move to Alaska.
pew! pew! - asgardshill, on 10/05/2009, -2/+6I actually have to add a small amount of oil to it to get it to brown properly. It's about the most heart-healthy red meat out there.
- luggyman, on 10/05/2009, -0/+4wow what a ***** douchebag.
If i were the residents of that town, i'd hunt the ***** down and force him to live in that building for a week.
enforced with lasers. - heaintheavy, on 10/05/2009, -0/+3You a banker from Boston or something?
- inigomntoya, on 10/05/2009, -1/+4'Buffalo bison whom other Buffalo bison bully themselves bully Buffalo bison'.
- barderer, on 10/05/2009, -0/+3The guy owed back property taxes. They should have just taken the property and put it up for auction. When it didn't sell, take owernship, then sell off all the meat to a pet food factory. Done deal. Instead they ignored the problem and it got out of hand. The guy is an *****, no doubt. But there will always be a infinite supply of *****. The city should have been on top of policing this guy as soon as he stopped paying taxes and taken the whole thing over. They could have even profited from it.
- areyouserious, on 10/05/2009, -1/+4I live in Sioux Falls... Not too big, not too small, not to mention we are fairly isolated from resession here.
- thephosphorbox, on 10/05/2009, -0/+3I love bison meat, but it's so prohibitively expensive in my area I only buy it as a treat every now and then :(
- wlmafia, on 10/05/2009, -0/+3Ted Turner owns "Ted's Montana Grill" and the food is delicious! I always hit that place up when in Atlanta.
- inigomntoya, on 10/05/2009, -1/+4I spent 3 or 4 weeks there on an engineering project as well. If you can get past the 8 months of winter, Sioux Falls and the surrounding area is really nice.
- haikuFU, on 10/05/2009, -0/+3In some states, businesses that require refrigeration can hold the power company liable for cutting power and destroying inventory... even if no one is paying the electric bill. If SD is one of those states, the city may be able to recoup cleanup costs from the power company for shutting off the power. It sounds a bit sketchy to hold them responsible, but the law is VERY clearly laid out for situations like this in some states.
I threw 40 pounds of chicken in a dumpster in the hot sun one time. 1 week later, you couldn't be within 100 feet of it. I can't imagine what 44 tons of bison meat would smell like. - davidg11, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2I wouldnt suggest people move anywhere due to taxes. How about quality of life and other costs instead?
My wife is from Minnesota, and she and her fam love it out here in central WA state.
higher sales tax at 6.5% and higher gas taxes....no income tax..40 buck car registration fee,..theres other things you should consider....electricity rates lowest in the nation... around .025 per kWh..all hydropower from dams out here.
When I'm paying $130 for both power and heat in the winter ..and people in other states are paying $330+ for the same..then taxes dont seem to be as big of a factor.
So theres more than just taxes in costs of living. - peestandingup, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2Rancidly delicious??
- czarcasm, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2You know whats good for a queasy tummy? Shotgun a warm Olde Milwaukee with a raw egg followed by a strip of raw bacon.
Thats what I would tell my hungover friend.
Works every time.
Yeah - TimtheTaxMan, on 10/05/2009, -3/+5A bit off topic, but I was just in Sioux Falls this weekend and I was impressed. I’m considering a move there because of the great tax and law environment in that state. The city also seems to be growing and well managed.
Anyone familiar with the city and have any thoughts? - georgetds, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2He is being held accountable - he just doesn't believe he should be and is avoiding paying his bills.
- Lleu, on 10/05/2009, -1/+350 comments and not one OM NOM NOM?! Come on people, we're Digg. We're better than this....
- cheeze_ballz, on 10/05/2009, -1/+3I live in Sioux Falls too -- great people, plenty of things to keep you busy, large enough city to have plenty of stores and some good entertainment, but small enough that we don't have constant traffic congestion. I've lived in larger and smaller cities, and I find that Sioux Falls is right in the middle.
- metvettefreak, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2that was one of the funniest comments ive read on digg...i almost spit out my pizza!
- Zaxcomp, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2The grammar Nazis give a slightly suspicious look, but then decide this is not the sentence they are looking for.
