- stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -15/+207Obama once again came off very presidential, very collected and centered. McCain seemed old and tired in contrast to the energetic, focused Obama.
- paintgrl, on 10/08/2008, -14/+167On stage tonight it was obvious that Obama is the future and McCain is the past.
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -13/+143'That One!"
Got my blood up! Like Obama wasn't nothing!
Obama showed the old goat respect all during the debate. - NyteStarNyne, on 10/08/2008, -8/+89Expect McCain to start throwing his kitchen sink. All SEVEN of them.
- TigerStar337, on 10/08/2008, -10/+79That One/Biden '08

- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -23/+80Aww, poor Grampy. And he put on a fresh set of Depends for tonight.
- cmootoo, on 10/08/2008, -18/+71That was probably pretty embarrassing for McCain. He didn't even shake Obama's hand at the end when they were greeting the crowd and instead directed his wife to do so.
- kingofinternet, on 10/08/2008, -11/+58that one 08!
mccain is potomac scum - kezia1, on 10/08/2008, -7/+52I think people should not overlook McCain's statement that there can be no "on-the-job training". That's a two way street, McCain.
Obama is presidential, through and through. It's kind of funny, you can see the two themes of their character and ticket. Obama stands for rational thought, intelligence, and acting based on strategy and knowledge, where it seems that McCain stands for the american will, "patriotism", and optimism. But Obama is a realist, and that's what America needs right now. - bushisafag, on 10/08/2008, -8/+48Senator Obama was precise and presidential tonight. McCain just stammered and mumbled his answers.
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -5/+45It raised my eyebrow when he told the male black questioner that he probably had never even heard of Freddie or Fannie mae before all this economic BS. Condescending much? McCain thinks average people are as dense on the housing mess as he is.
300billion to refinance peoples homes they bought that they couldn't afford? Wow, out of LEFT field. - Wryly, on 10/08/2008, -4/+43Barack answered the questions. McCain spent too much time trying to make him look bad.
- PhilLesh69, on 10/08/2008, -2/+41There was a few times where McCain started wandering around while Obama was talking. I busted out laughing, thinking about my senile grandfather. He even had the same smile on his face.
But what really stood out was that, watching on CNN, the "uncommited ohio voters" overwhelmingly liked Obama's answers and only marginally agreed with McCain, except for the Russia/cold war questions where they finally liked McCain's answer almost as well as they liked Obama's every other answer.
I never saw Obama's answers skew below neutral, but I saw McCain's answers dip below the zero line at least 3 times. Where most of Obama's answers almost pegged the top of the opinion line, McCain's remained mostly stuck to neutral or maybe halfway to the top of the positive end.
But, not being led by Ohio's uncommitted voters, my judgement was that McCain had his strong moments, but came off looking like an angry old man with too many conflicting positions and someone who was unable to make his own case (other than his mortgage proposition, which is actually something I wanted the bailout to be in the first place), and could only try to attack, misrepresent and diminish.
I also thought it was funny that McCain tossed his microphone from his left hand into his right hand at the end of every answer he believed he "nailed" with a big smirk on his face, and the seeing on the CNN opinion meter that those were the answers he most failed at. - arunforce, on 10/08/2008, -14/+52McCain is a converted vietnamese spy. My vice pres found out that his next door neighbor is vietnamese. COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT!
- kezia1, on 10/08/2008, -4/+40You've tracked this guy's diggs for months? Thats ***** weird, dude.
- kooredaan, on 10/08/2008, -5/+39They did shake hands right after the debate ended and both got up. Even did a man hug type of thing.
I'm not excusing McCain for being a grumpy man, but I do think he was cordial enough at the end. Maybe his wife had never met Barack (or a 'colored folk') so that was her chance. (sarcasm meant)
The use of 'that one' was idiotic by his party. Not sure he meant to say it, but as a President you have to watch what you say all the time. No slip-ups because they'll haunt you in the US and in the world view. - AmazingSteve, on 10/08/2008, -2/+35OMG! How disrespectful!! He called him by his actual name!!! Holy *****, you guys really are as useless as a dick on the Pope without Rove aren't you?
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -5/+36What's scary is how there are people actually uncommitted..
It's not as if BOTH candidates are good choices, or have similar effective proposals.
Actually it doesn't make sense. I mean, Bush's approval rating is now officially the lowest in polling history, and McCain has essentially proven to be an extension of that. So ... that being said, how can people sit on the fence and not know? - WasabiBomb, on 10/08/2008, -2/+30If calling someone by their first name is your idea of disrespect, you need to get out more. Obama was clearly trying to keep it friendly- if McCain was offended, HE needs to get over himself.
- acparks1, on 10/08/2008, -3/+31Did anyone else notice how many times McCain said "my friends"?! So annoying!!
Give up you condescending old frump. - Texastornado, on 10/08/2008, -9/+33Mccain obviously lost and lost BIG TIME! This is his self proclaimed favorite and best format for debate, the Town Hall Format. Because of his high expectations coming into the debate, it makes the loss for him tonight that much more devistating. Expect to see his poll numbers diminish in the next few weeks. I believe its safe to say we know who our next president is going to be....Unless of course Obama screws up REALLY BADLY like if he calls Mccain an "Out of touch honkey" =/
Obama/Biden 08' - wukillabee, on 10/08/2008, -2/+25does he still call people gooks?
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -6/+29I'm not really enthusiastic about either candidate but Obama was really well composed and ready for the debate. McCain kind of looked like he just had a couple glasses of bourbon and was about to fall over
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -10/+30Obama will be the next President of the United States.
- jsdratm, on 10/08/2008, -2/+19The Saigon Candidate
- mtcool1988, on 10/08/2008, -6/+24But, My friends?
- Wang, on 10/08/2008, -3/+20...and what did Palin do the moment she walked out and met Senator Biden? "Can I Call You Joe?" - that's even more disrespectful imho
- PhilLesh69, on 10/08/2008, -1/+17Nah, I didn't take it as being condescending to black people. I took it to being condescending to all average citizens. He was trying to say that only the people in charge know about these things.
FNMA and FNMC have been around long enough that most people, black/white/brown/disinterested/ignorant all know what they are. McCain assumes only the insiders know, and the rest of us citizens are too dumb or too preoccupied with American Idol to have a clue. - mediablitz, on 10/08/2008, -3/+19"That one" is something grandpa says about the "young uns" with all their new fangled ideas. It just cemented McCain as old and out of touch.
- gnotDigger, on 10/08/2008, -13/+28I thought Obama pretty much just held his ground in this debate, he didn't throw nearly as many punches as I would have liked, but he's in the lead so that is to be expected.. He obviously didn't give up much ground if any. Needless to say Obama still has my vote but I don't think he "won" the debate it seemed more like a wash to me. He is still winning the war and that's all that matters! OBAMA/BIDEN 08! Change I can believe in!
- whahaa, on 10/08/2008, -2/+17you're assuming his houses only have one kitchen apiece.
- NyteStarNyne, on 10/08/2008, -2/+16I feel so sorry for you, that your brain goes dead after the "I agree with Senator McCain". Apparently you're too much of an idiot to understand the substance of what he's saying and the distinctions he's making after that part.
By the way, there was a moment in this debate where McCain said "Senator Obama is right...". I guess that means he's in the tank for Obama now? See how idiotic this theory is? No, of course you don't. - kingofinternet, on 10/08/2008, -4/+18i'm not running for office, mr. high and mighty
i'm the king of internet - dagamer34, on 10/08/2008, -1/+15For the next few days the "that one" comment is going to be played over and over and over again ad nausem. But if that wasn't bad enough, when McCain was condescending to the person who asked the question about how the financial bailout package would actually work and said something to the effect of "You probably don't know what Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are", I think that really was the low point of his "attacks." It's also probably put him on the definite negative side for any huge negative attack when you start attack VOTERS too.
- viper001, on 10/08/2008, -6/+20Obama was phenomenal in that debate. Still, I'm not going to hold my breath come election time. The Karl Rove crew have stolen elections before, and despite the poll numbers I have a feeling they're just getting started.
- Headake, on 10/08/2008, -5/+17thats sad doctorfungi. Real real sad
- ngmcs8203, on 10/08/2008, -0/+12Best part about tonight was the reaction by the Republican Fox pundits: http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/07/debat ...
It was nearly unanimous from their end as well: Obama won the debate. - algaeturd, on 10/08/2008, -1/+13Obama is impressive, cool, calm and in control. EXACTLY the kind of person I want as my next president. Couldn't ask for a more qualified, informed and intelligent person to lead.
- techweenie, on 10/08/2008, -1/+13McCain's nerves seem frayed. He's delivering disjointed arguments. And why did he see the need to slam Tom Brokaw?
Old man yells at cloud. - inactive, on 10/08/2008, -2/+13It'd be disrespectful if he addressed McCain as "Sidney."
- OstrakonX, on 10/08/2008, -2/+13Yeah, gonna have to agree with SetOverSet here. I'm voting for Obama either way, but they both ***** up on voting for the bailout.
I was surprised when that woman stammered out the "How can we trust either of you?" question. I was genuinely impressed that they let her ask that question. (Sad, isn't it, that I have to be surprised in a country where we supposedly have free speech.) - inactive, on 10/08/2008, -2/+13I like where obama took charge instead of answering the next question and replied to McCains comments, i thought obama was very real and honest. McCain didn't shake his hand, and used comments like "that one" and acted like a douche, and not a real man
- NBGill, on 10/08/2008, -1/+12Looked to me like Obama brought a big ol' can of whup ass. He mopped the floor with McPain. One candidate is cool, calm, collected, articulate, and intelligent, and the other is vague, contradictory, tense, spiteful, and disdainful, though wholly without cause.
- Mujokan, on 10/08/2008, -1/+11Must be a very small hooker.
- mobislink, on 10/08/2008, -0/+10700b>5b
- cmp1966, on 10/08/2008, -0/+10I've lived in AZ for over 20 years. McCain doesn't stand for anything except himself. He hasn't paid much attention or done much of a job as a Senator when it comes to representing the people of AZ- he won't do any better representing the people of the country. He's been the worst Senator for children and children's issues, and had the worst attendance record. He's been involved with Keating 5 financial scandal. He used to be a hero, but that was a long time ago. He left his sense of honor behind a long time ago, too. Vote for Obama. We don't need another self-serving, greedy, lying & cheating, egomaniac in office.
- kezia1, on 10/08/2008, -3/+13Whereas McCain just simply re-states what Obama said? They both agreed with each other, Obama just admitted to it like a man.
- Depthfunction, on 10/08/2008, -0/+10Unfortunately, McCain only does well in town halls when the hall is packed with his own supporters. After the debate, the must have been asking his staff, "Why weren't they cheering for me after every answer? And why weren't they shouting 'Kill him!' when I referred to that one?"
- deleo, on 10/08/2008, -1/+10Obama looks and sounds like he is ready to assume command. McCain looks and sounds like he is ready to retire in Arizona.
