- ChelseaBlacker, on 03/02/2009, -2/+11Why are dolphins and whales such a pull at my heart strings? Perhaps it was all the Free Willy in the early 1990's! Any other free willy lovers (maybe Flipper?)?
Great to see so many people wanted to help, though the part "The remaining whales died on the beach. One rescuers described the distressing scene, saying he could hear the animals "crying"" - is pretty depressing. - UMDWei, on 03/03/2009, -0/+9What if they don't do it intentionally? What if it's due to sonars? What if?
- pkon, on 03/03/2009, -0/+8Man, luckily for these guys they didn't end up on some Japanese shore, that would've been ugly.
- lisaawesome, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5Why shouldn't man intervene? Even from an anthropocentric angle it is a huge nuisance to have all these animals beached. Letting them all sit there to die is just going to be more nasty clean up on our part.

Oh shut the hell up. Perhaps if we didn't have such a dramatic impact on oceans, beaches, and the general ecology of these animals they wouldn't have gotten trapped.
I hope some day you get into a situation you need help with so you can understand compassion. Prick. - SabreWolf, on 03/03/2009, -1/+5Deliciously ugly.
- Fruit45, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4Yeah but it makes sense to help out here because in other areas of the world, man is taking over nature's course. We should overcompensate in some areas to make up for the wrongs in another.
- Harabeck, on 03/03/2009, -0/+4I saw a program recently talking about the Earth's magnetic field. It said that some scientists think that Earth is about to switch polarity, and that the beginning of the process starts with some weird irregularities in the field(there is currently an anomolous patch in the magnetic field over the south Atlantic). Since there is some evidence that marine mammals use the magnetic field to navigate, it stands to reason that perhaps they are being confused.

- TinternAbbot, on 03/03/2009, -1/+4Bail them out!
- tama00, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2Wow what i miss leading title, i thought there was 194 stranded whales and dolphins lol
- exgiexpcv, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I still can't help but suspect that there's a Japanese whaling ship hovering just out of sight over the horizon waiting to pick off the survivors. And it pisses me off.
- Thorpe, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I'm sure Hayden Panettiere will be over there quicker than you can Digg this.
- Demand911Truth, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1Save the whales.
- Xeniv, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1There wasn't 194 stranded? I couldn't tell if they rescued 48 out of 194 or the total was just 48.
- yergi, on 03/03/2009, -1/+2Quick, someone phone the Japanese whaling fleet. I bet they would be happy to help!
- asaone, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1quick lite up the barbie
- rebirf, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1If ugly == tasty.
- rda1441, on 03/03/2009, -3/+4BBQ time?
- fitqueenb, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1Sad to see them run on shore, and us not know why.... Got to be a tough way to die.
- Harabeck, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1The South Atlantic anomaly is indicative of a larger phenomenon, namely the possible early stages of the reversal of the Earth's magnetic field. This reversal would, according to computer models, cause erratic behavior within the field as a whole before, after, and especially during the reversal itself.
- jeffness, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1awwwe neew. 194 pilot whales beached as. they don't want chups. they eat PLANK ton.
- Joecrook, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1so long and thanks for all the fish.
- kbcool, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1If only they weren't thousands of miles away from the South Atlantic! They're in the South Pacific!
- ptFoe, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1don't worry they will be deported to Naru
- bongo, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1Isn't it ironic that "Pilot" whales run themselves onto a beach?
- NetLethal, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0As if Australia wasn't host to enough deadly creatures, now the continent itself is deadly...
- TylerDuhrdan, on 03/03/2009, -1/+1gee, where were those nut jobs from whale wars to help those whales out?
- hexx54, on 03/03/2009, -1/+1First stuck in Nova Scotia, now here. Are they forgetting how to swim or what?
- sgerwel1985, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0God and i felt bad about those 3 dolphins stuck in some lake about to freeze over... It is great to see so many people helping.
- jedinate, on 03/03/2009, -1/+1That's gotta be a sign of some religion's coming apocalypse.
- gabriellemrtn12, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0That is how much useful information ah!
but I have seen more useful and relevant information at: http://www.information-it.com - elborro44, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0quick, raise the sea level!
- Dwatson783, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0This is why we need to watch where we dump out our Kool Aid when we decide it's time to stray from the pack
- kbcool, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0You're too slow digg. They've already put all the survivors back in the water. Unfortunately it was only 50/194 that survived.
- UnterDenLinden, on 03/03/2009, -2/+1Why do we save them if they do it intentionally. I mean im all for it, but evolution probably has something to say here.
- Fruit45, on 03/03/2009, -3/+2shaddap
- 919kwjc, on 03/03/2009, -4/+2I thought dolphins were the smartest creature on the planet. You mean Animal Planet has been lying to me all this time?
- Juaquin, on 03/03/2009, -6/+1Don't really have enough information to tell, but wouldn't some sort of barrier on this stretch of coast be a good idea? The time it takes them to rescue these animals would be better spent just preventing it.
- bcronos, on 03/03/2009, -6/+1Fire up the Barbie! We're goin' to the beach!
- kra1813, on 03/03/2009, -6/+0Child
- kra1813, on 03/03/2009, -8/+0This is a good example of a situation that has nothing to do with man. Man had nothing to do with this and should therefore not intervene in any way. Let nature take its course.

What is Digg?
