- P5ycHo, on 02/08/2008, -32/+951And the rest of world don't want the pictures removed. Deal with it. Who do you think you are?
- Irfit, on 02/08/2008, -2/+392They won't get it removed from the wikipedia.
The only thing they will accomplish is to make even more publicity to this picture. - 93TILL503, on 02/08/2008, -18/+389I'm starting a campaign to get the Holocaust entry removed. Who's with me?!!1111one
- otakushark, on 02/08/2008, -12/+299Dear Muslims: My religion states that I am not allowed to look at mosques. Please demolish them all, and let me know when it's safe to look, thanks!
PS: I am not picking on your religion in particular. Just like everyone, I think all of them are wrong except mine. - Whence, on 02/08/2008, -29/+314don't exaggerate here, thats probably just one small family of muslims signing it.
- bearsandbulls, on 02/08/2008, -7/+278180,000 of us signed a petition to impeach Bush and Cheney, so get in line, oh and tough *****.
- CannedMango, on 02/08/2008, -10/+257just 107,000?
That's about 0.00001783% of the population of the planet. Most people don't seem to mind. - Grova, on 02/08/2008, -8/+232Is that a women at the bottom of the stairs? And her face is uncovered.
- Chewie67, on 02/08/2008, -7/+205I guess I'm just missing the point here.
What, exactly, is offensive about this picture? I don't see anything... - stark222000, on 02/08/2008, -10/+199Feb 7, 2008, Abra Ham , California
I demand removal of all easter bunny depictions from Wikipedia and all retail stores. It is an offence to the Holy Believers in the Easter Bunny (Chocolate Be Upon His Face).
haha...yeah... - PDAIsAOk, on 02/08/2008, -3/+167Start a petition to keep the pic on wikipedia and see how many signatures it gets
- KonstantinLevin, on 02/08/2008, -4/+118Some Muslims object to any depiction of their prophet, Muhammed. Wikipedia has one in their entry. Two years ago, there were riots in the middle east over a dissrespectful image of Muhammed in a Danish cartoon.
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -17/+127I don't get it, people have the right to publish any picture that they want unless there's a copyright or legal reason not to. There are basic freedoms that guarantee them this right.
On the other hand, if another group feels like they don't like it, well, they also have every right to protest it peacefully, through signing petitions or writing about it or blogging, etc.
Don't we allow Nazi's to freely express their ideas?! to defend what Hitler did? Is this worse?
Both sides have their rights, and if you think I'm wrong you're an idiot, but you are entitled to expressing your disapproval and calling me an idiot too! - brnagi, on 02/08/2008, -7/+109That is Ayeshia, Mohammed married her when she was 6 years old, at the time he was 54.
You can dig me down but it's the truth, it's in the Koran. - luke374, on 02/08/2008, -6/+107Let's all pitch in to get a giant billboard of it in Time Square.
- zhepp, on 02/08/2008, -11/+107its just a picture of a guy named Muhammed whats wrong with that aren't like 50% of Muslim males named that? seriosously nobody said it was the prophet...
"15th century illustration in a copy of a manuscript by Al-Bīrūnī, depicting Muhammad preaching the Qur'ān in Mecca.[52]" - dsmx, on 02/08/2008, -3/+98The internet is self filtering you only see what you want to see. You don't want to see something don't go to that web page.
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -8/+85I'm tired of people demanding special treatment based on religion.
Actually, I can generalise that even more: I'm tired of religion. - mrfreeziexp, on 02/08/2008, -4/+76everybody should download that picture so there are plenty of mirrors. Hehe.
- Ajajadude, on 02/08/2008, -20/+91This just makes me want to create a website that only contains pictures of Muhammed just to spite these people.
And is it just me or does that part about it being a "peaceful request" seem like a vague threat? Or am I just reading too much into it because of the whole deal with the political cartoon a while back? - bearpigman, on 02/08/2008, -5/+75The petition to remove this image offends my belief in free speech. Lets start a petition to remove their petition.
- brnagi, on 02/08/2008, -2/+67It's the internet! It's the only free speech platform left.
- badjokes, on 02/08/2008, -3/+61its more of an unreasonable request than a peaceful one.
- bearsandbulls, on 02/08/2008, -3/+58Freedom of press, freedom of speech, freedom of religion.
If they don't like it, don't look. Someone else who obviously follows religion put the picture up and that is their right. - MasterThief117, on 02/08/2008, -2/+55Why don't we just take down Wikipedia entirely while we are at it? I mean there is a chance that every article offends at least one group of people.
- BuckleButt, on 02/08/2008, -6/+55Front page please.
- Epik, on 02/08/2008, -5/+54Where is the petition we can sign to stand up for freedom of speech?
- hollowex, on 02/08/2008, -2/+51Muhammed? Hi, I'm Chris Hanson with Dateline NBC...
- shaka776, on 02/08/2008, -14/+60Durka Durka
- Fracture98, on 02/08/2008, -3/+47Start a Photoshop contest. Wouldn't be hard to have him on a skateboard riding the rail on those stairs.
- searcade, on 02/08/2008, -10/+531000's of diggers want scientology gone too, does muslims complain?
- thedoctor, on 02/08/2008, -2/+44so he was a pedo? no wonder they want to hide his image.
- Rikushix, on 02/08/2008, -4/+45The main logic that we can use to refute the people demanding it be taken down is this: Wikipedia did not create the image, it is simply a pictoral copy of a 16th century tapestry. Wikipedia did not weave this tapestry. This is neutral, fair history, and as such it deserves to be recorded. It is ironic that dogmatics such as many of those complaining preach their religion but then deny the spread of any information about its holiest deity whatsoever.
- CaesarBlue, on 02/08/2008, -8/+47You've got it all wrong! The woman is at the top of the stairs.
- lebatte, on 02/08/2008, -0/+39Are we supposed to deny the fact that these illustrations exist just because one religion is offended by them?
- BigBallistix, on 02/08/2008, -5/+44I just don't get WHY, if they find depictions of their prophet offensive; did they make any in the first place?
- jakobahman, on 02/08/2008, -6/+43Exactly. Now where is the petition to KEEP the muhammad illustrations online... :)
- catachip, on 02/08/2008, -4/+40Actually, in most European countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Switzerland) and Israel, holocaust denial and public speech endorsing Nazis is illegal and punishable with significant jail times. So no, in many Western countries Nazis are not allowed freedom of speech.
- GianDoe, on 02/08/2008, -1/+35somehow in my immature mind this leads to religiously philosophical girl on girl physics action...
- kirbs2001, on 02/08/2008, -1/+35where do i sign the petition for them to keep it up.
- FatLoser, on 02/08/2008, -0/+32I don't understand the objection to Muhammed's image... muslims make a big point that they DO NOT worship Muhammed. He is a prophet, but a "mere man" according to them, and is not deserving of any worship whatsoever. The whole false idol thing. So why, then, do they treat him with the same reverence than Christians treat Jesus?
- masterm1nd, on 02/08/2008, -6/+38"they also have every right to protest it *peacefully*"
- Curlz31, on 02/08/2008, -14/+44Could the Muslims who want this removed please read the first amendment.
- FatLoser, on 02/08/2008, -3/+31Chocolate Be Upon His Face. Amen.
- Ajajadude, on 02/08/2008, -4/+31Well, in order to answer that question it would require these people who don't want it on the internet to think logically.
- pagit, on 02/08/2008, -2/+27don't look at Muhammad's face then.
- Icyfenix, on 02/08/2008, -6/+30Just the extremists sweetie.
My Muslim friend thinks Im an idiot for being an omega point theorist but she dosen't try to hurt me(she is beating me now for posting about her tho) - esteskid, on 02/08/2008, -3/+27I think I'm going to have to start one to get spaghetti banned. Every time I see someone eating it I just want to cry at how much disrespect people show for the one true omnipotent spaghetti monster.
- hokeypokey500, on 02/08/2008, -1/+24it's actually quite simple. I'll start with an example of what we want to prevent; Jesus, to Christians, is God, so they make millions of pictures, statues, idols, stained glass windows, etc. in reverence to him. Muslims do not believe any human was, is, or ever will be God. Muhammad was a prophet, not a God, so we don't make pictures of him in order to prevent him becoming a "saint" or something that people worship, because over time, people would begin to worship his pictures and stuff. So by not making pictures, we keep people from straying and doing something completely contrary to Islam
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -2/+25Stone her!!
