As a result of the bet, March 20, 2007 was declared as Stephen Colbert day in the city.
- bruenig, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3Yeah they should have thrown copies of gm's quarterly earnings report.
- ieataquacrayons, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2I was wondering if they donated all the bears, I am happy to hear that they did. I really want to go to one of these games, has to be quite a sight.

- nblsavage, on 11/28/2007, -1/+65A world record? You mean there was an actual world record for number of stuffed animals thrown on to a hockey rink?

Its a strange mix after watching a group of people beat the ***** out of each other.- chronichyjinx, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2ahhhhhh hockey.... 8)

- manfrin, on 11/28/2007, -2/+3The point was later disallowed.
Well, looks like the teddy bear business in Portland is going to get another big boost.- killuminati, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1It wasn't later disallowed. It was never allowed in the first place! The fans in that arena obviously don't really know that much about hockey to not be able to tell that's not a goal.
- skram, on 11/28/2007, -8/+2I hope none of those stuffed animals were named "muhamed" Or else....
- chronichyjinx, on 11/28/2007, -0/+9Thats awesome, hopefully the kids that get them enjoy them (esp Spidey).
- AppleGeorge, on 11/28/2007, -35/+4Hockey is gay.

- bobbyschultz, on 11/28/2007, -1/+0this is such a good idea.
- chummel, on 11/28/2007, -0/+11I'm there for that game every year. Not only is it a wonderful thing to do for kids around the holidays, but you get to wip stuffed animals onto the ice (and at random people if you feel like it).
Last year some bank had donated 1 bear per seat (and they didn't score till overtime). This year there were 2 bears per seat. - Hoxie, on 11/28/2007, -0/+8thats like 80 grand of teddy bears
jesus- moskaudancer, on 11/28/2007, -2/+5"Mohammed", actually.
- LostnTransition, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1For being the 4th person to call the bears Mohammed, yours was still funny.
- bruenig, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1You over pay for your teddy bears.

- mstoneburner, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I hope they used organic, free-range, home-schooled bears. Also, did that guy dry-hump Spiderman?
- phunlee, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4Where is Stephen Colbert when we need him???!!!!
- centran, on 11/28/2007, -0/+5Well it's better then throwing octopus! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_the_Octopus
Weird people those Detroit people. - iassocuwinun, on 11/28/2007, -0/+0All the teddy bears were made in China
- dasmonki, on 11/28/2007, -1/+0And they had lead in them.
- TomRemixed, on 11/28/2007, -0/+11I read this title thinking some fans threw a $20000 teddy bear onto an ice flow.
- dasmonki, on 11/28/2007, -1/+0Fans of the ice flow?
- bencefeher, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2I thought they threw $20,000 teddy bears at Vanilla Ice.

- Apokalyptik, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Sounds like a "non-lethal" version of the Tribes Disc gun.
SHAZ-BOT! - wilf_brim, on 11/28/2007, -1/+2Pretty cool. Glad that they got that many toys, sort of interesting watching hockey players skate around and collect up the bears. Reminder to diggers: that time of year again. http://www.childsplaycharity.org/ I'll be buying something for the kids in North Carolina. Do what you can. And if it helps, every buck that goes to them is another small kick to the teeth of Jack Thompson and his ilk.
- Battleloser, on 11/28/2007, -1/+4LEAVE STEPHEN ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- blesbok, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3The funny thing is that you can see the ref wave off the goal right before all the bears start getting thrown, so the "later disallowed" part is just a cover up for "fans don't know hand signals".
But that is still really cool and for a great cause. :)- centran, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2All the fans care about is hearing a goal buzzer. The bears start flying that very instant.
However, why was the goal disallowed. It looks like the shooter hit and budged the net with his follow threw... I am betting that is why.- blesbok, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1That is the only thing that I can see that would disallow it. However, if the puck was across the line before it was dislodged then it shouldn't have been disallowed. The guy that got the assist looks like his foot was in the crease, but I highly doubt they would disallow it over that since he wasn't interfering in any way.
- centran, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2All the fans care about is hearing a goal buzzer. The bears start flying that very instant.
- DeadFox1, on 11/28/2007, -2/+1How long does it take for 1 person to throw out 1 teddy bear? Why did that take 5 minutes? enjoyed watching that still!
- blesbok, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Because if everyone did it at once there would probably be a lot of people whacking other people in the heads.
And I don't think everyone has the strength to throw a teddy bear from the nosebleeds to the ice, so there was probably a lot of rethrows. - jmpeagle, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2because there were more than 3 bears per person also, the people in the back could really only throw towards the ice but not necessarily over given the size of the bears. It might take multiple throws before it made it.
- blesbok, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Because if everyone did it at once there would probably be a lot of people whacking other people in the heads.
- agentmedia, on 11/28/2007, -2/+0The 14th annual Teddy Bear toss in 2008 is banned due to safety and terrorist concerns. Go home people and turn on your television.

- Osahar, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3disregard my last link, provided url to wrong article.
- 3th0s, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2They do this every year, its a pretty fun game to go to.
Funny seeing little 6 year old girls hauling gigantic teddy bears around all game and then finally try to heave them onto the ice unsuccessfully. - dawesdust12, on 11/28/2007, -2/+0The official didn't "later" disallow the goal, he blew the play down because the net was off, and was immediately waving the goal off. The fans are just ***** retarded.
Although, the cause is good. - Webbster, on 11/28/2007, -6/+3Any of them named Mohammed....?
I'll get me coat. - spoodigity, on 11/28/2007, -1/+7The point was disallowed. Shortly thereafter all donated bears were destroyed in a horrific teddy bonfire due to inappropriate timing.
- LorenG123, on 11/28/2007, -1/+3i only counted 20,371
- BeyondGoodNEvil, on 11/28/2007, -2/+4Then you counted WRONG you worthless pile of trash.
- BeyondGoodNEvil, on 11/28/2007, -2/+2I'd have brought a net to sit in the front row and catch as many as possible. They make good gifts for kids! I'd have taken home dozens of Mohammeds. Yes, that's what I'll be calling teddy bears from now on. Mohammeds.
- NeoPoe, on 11/28/2007, -0/+2Coolest Fans Ever.
- psykiv, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1Poor Teddy Bears :( Being thrown like that :(
- Leg0z, on 11/28/2007, -0/+3Go Hawks!
- verkon, on 11/28/2007, -1/+1Rädda joppe!!!
- dontaskagain, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1I'd hate to be sat at close to the ice, all them teddies that didn't quite make their target would probably hit the back of your head
- antdude, on 11/28/2007, -0/+1How long did it take to clean all that up?
- killuminati, on 11/28/2007, -2/+1those must be some pretty dumb fans. the ref clearly waved the goal off right away.
