One of the sickest drum solos watch!
video.google.com — Seems like a homless guy.. maybe not but damn he is sick.
- 1412 diggs
- digg it
- iCallShotgun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54Wow, that's talent.
- jwyles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Look at his biceps as he is doing the breakbeat towards the end; dude is ripped from beating on cans all day. Someone by this man a real drum set!
- jgreath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yeah....
Screw Paul Bostaph or Dave Lombardo, Slayer should pick this guy up! - justwan, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1He's got too much rage-ohol.
I really wanted to smash the crap out of my keyboard during a couple parts of this. :) - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Talent? Psh. He's just tryin to get the last bit of paint from the can!
(Taken from the Google Video comments, I take no credit)
I keed. Not only does this guy have drumming talent, but he has figured out how to manipulate each of the "drums" to make different sounds depending on how he affects them, like with his feet. - cbasst, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1to tell you the truth, thats not very hard to do with simple rhythm understanding.
ever hear of Terry Bozzio or the Black Page? - christianw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's Tony Royster Jr. and hes far from homeless
- HKLozzo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I'm not surprised that guy is sick. If he's homeless, he probably doesn't have any medical insurance, making it a certainty that he hasn't been able to take the proper medicines for whatever sickness ailes him. (is it a virus or bacterial infection do you think?) And as for his drumming being sick, wow thats such a mind bending concept to consider. I can only comment that his drumming is very good, its great, its amazing. Sick? I need to consult my medical documents to see if its possible for a musical abiltity to be diagnosed in the same mannner that we would normally diagnose a living creature, i.e. people or dogs etc..
- ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41Seen it a thousand times but as a drummer myself it never gets old.
- squirrelza, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16There's a reason he has such big muscles
- floridiot, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4He plays drums a lot?
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -16/+19Big Muscle "sickness".
Seriously though, quit using "sick". We claim it to mean ILL. Also, quit using ILL. We claim it to mean "bad". And another thing: Quit using BAD. it doesn't mean good.
Signed, Gramps. Off my lawn! - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4that dude can join my death metal band
- versionist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40He is always in NYC subways drumming, usually with a couple of other guys. Always draws a crowd.
- pwnrOiNK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9yea i saw him too in grand central ny i guees..
so awesome and he kept going a lot longer time than the video !
good stuff - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -37/+11Bugs the hell out of me. Just what I want to hear when I'm standing in a crowded subway station after work. WHACKITY-WHACKITY-WHACKITY-WHACKITY-WHACKITY-WHACKITY *stab*
- SmokeChiba, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Atually, these kind of preformers are in every major city pretty much. Ive seen a group of them in down town Detroit in the summer, and a few in DC the summer before that. Additionally the Detroit Pistons have a group of 20 of these guys that play at halftime with the same equipment (drum sticks and paint cans), called the "Pistons Drum Line".
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Favorite Spots:
Times Square and 34th Street subway stations; in front of the Marriott Marquis, 1535 Broadway, between 45th and 46th Streets.
Claims to Fame:
Wright has appeared in commercials (Levis), videos (Mariah Carey's "Some Day"), and films (Green Card, Sliver, etc.).
Typical Day's Take:
$300. Wright performs nearly every day for two to three hours or until the cops shut him down—whichever comes first. - JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saw a similar guy outside the British Consul in Chicago. Amazingly talented.
- pwnrOiNK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9yea i saw him too in grand central ny i guees..
- lukeamotion, on 10/12/2007, -58/+6to bad buckets aren't drums.
- sionix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Luke: I beg to differ.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/drums - meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28too bad Luke doesn't know anything about drums
- sionix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35Luke: I beg to differ.
- Mrkamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -22/+8For a sick person he sure can beat those drums. Who do you think he is signaling?
- creighton, on 10/12/2007, -11/+51Outstanding performance. but sick?
Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.vSick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.Sick.
There...has it been said enough times by an old fart like myself that it's lost its appeal?
Good. Now get off my lawn. - Mosatii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Amazing, according to information on this guy he makes nearly $300 a day doing this.
- aspec, on 10/12/2007, -23/+15Why does it seem like he's homeless? Because he's black? His clothes are way too clean. He was probably on break, or something.
Edit: Apparently he does it for a living.- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4its not cuz hes black...i actually rarely see black homeless, but its cuz hes sitting next to a wall on the streets.
it actually looks like he might be a painter or something, and those are empty industrial sized paint cans. Just a thought - hungryhermit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2@tw0bit
"I rarely see homeless black people"
Where do you live? We have enough to send you plenty and still have a bunch to keep for ourselves. - senzafine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@aspec ... I also thought he doesn't appear homeless at all. I think street performers are often looked over as not having a job. Obviously he's got enough talent to be a successful street performer. I love seeing talent like this that hasn't been commercialized.
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i see homeless in toronto and they are all white trash
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4its not cuz hes black...i actually rarely see black homeless, but its cuz hes sitting next to a wall on the streets.
- MrMcGuire, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7Seen it a thousand times as well. If you want to see some real solos, check out some Buddy Rich.
Props to the guy for the most cost-effective drum kit, though.- JesseDidThis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4yes, Buddy Rich is amazing!
- willangle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9yeah Buddy Rich is the bomb but hey...I wouldn't say that's not a real solo. I mean c'mon, the guy's got talent. Props to him for using it to his advantage.
- superdog87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12AWESOME! That dude can play! I would have thought buckets would have sounded bad!
- joncoop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I've seen guys doing a similar thing in the subways of NYC. I've actually seen them tuning thier buckets to a certain degree by standing on them and bouncing. That could be why they don't sound completely terrible. Or maybe not.
- bblades, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0hes no Neil Peart but hes good. Ive seen him before. There is also a great jazz trio at Herald Square and some good musicians that play out of Union Square too. Aside from those examples, most subway musicians are just irritating and annoying.
- Ibanez0, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I prefer Thomas Lang.
- Ibanez0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11http://youtube.com/watch?v=XoeoRmiSyYs
- JesseJericho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That video didn't have half the energy this guy has... just a bunch of technical stuff and stick-twirling...
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Philly has a group that would wipe him out (but he is good). They're "equipped" with a lot more junk (pots, pans, dish racks, lids and you name it) and they jam all the way to hell and back.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, I've seen 'em.
'Course, for a second there, I thought you were gonna say 'the mummers', but honestly, they're not terribly good musicians.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, I've seen 'em.
- astroman13, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Very resourceful. It’s pretty cool how he uses the bucket slamming on the floor as a bass drum.
- lukeo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8i thought that at first, but i think he lifts it up just off the floor and hits it when it is up, and that makes it more boomy, like a bass drum.
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -80/+5Being of African descent, imagine him adding a third 'drumstick' into the mix!
- nevenmrgan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41You are a moron.
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -74/+3LMAO! Yes, I am a moron...whatcha gonna do about it jackass?
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Digg you down, mostly. It's sad to try to pick a fight on the internet.
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -47/+2So then shut up and move on jackass...I love the -diggs, lol
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -40/+5Look at these negative diggs, I LOVE IT! Anyways, it's a 'sick' drum solo, if there were actual drums...so whose going to donate a set to this dude so he doesn't have to beat on plastic buckets, lol
- galador, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Well, since you so love the negative diggs, I'll gladly provide you with mine.
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3Give it to me baby! Feed my need!
- themikeflynn, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1You all get dugg down for being pansies on the internet. If I could, I would digg myself down for saying that.
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2Blah blah blah...rant rant rant...whine whine whine...cry cry cry... Here's your box of Kleenex!
- nevenmrgan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9That is awesome.
To those who commented on his being "drunk" and to the dude who said buckets weren't drums, we all eagerly await your amazing talent videos so we can ridicule them cheaply. No, really. - sleepyrobot, on 10/12/2007, -16/+8Yeah, right, he's "homeless." You know who else is "homeless"? Colin Powell, Will Smith, Oprah, and Condoleezza Rice. Try and get out a little more, people.
- Mrkamikaze, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24yep when i get out i always see them banging on buckets in the subway wearing their wife beater t-shirt. don't be an idiot.
- PJBonoVox, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8He's 'homeless'? Why? Because he's black and not too well dressed?
Save the social commentary, and just post the ***** video, submitter. - cadentsoul, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11You're a ***** idiot. Despite the common misconception, all black people are actually NOT homeless. He's obviously decently dressed and quite talented.
- themikeflynn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5All the description says is that he seems homeless. He's in the city wearing a wife beater, and demonstrating a great talent for money.
- JesseDidThis, on 10/12/2007, -22/+2How does this ***** end up on Digg's front page?
I'm sorry, this is not at all what I would call "One of the sickest drum solos." Buckets aren't drums.
Ladies and Gents, I give you Joe Morello
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35MCwMaLD8g&mode=related&search=
and another one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsKq3HD0EFc&NR- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+111) The same way all the other ***** gets on frontpage
2) those are drums. If crude drums as such weren't ever realized as musical instruments, your ass wouldn't have drums in the form you know them today.
Learn your music history before you try to bash, fool.
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+111) The same way all the other ***** gets on frontpage
- dargon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5He's pretty good, but Neal Pert is still one of the gods of the drum solos
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Yea, Neal Pert can play amazingly well.
No, this guy cannot. - unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Did you mean Neil Peart?
- unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIPAXNGq7HE
- unitedstatians, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=728642637337978347
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3366597770036623444 - Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Neil Peart's drum set is just completely over the top.
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Yea, Neal Pert can play amazingly well.
- MrFur1ous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29That was pretty good, but I could have used more cowbell....
- noopzilla!, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6those are some of the sickest DnB beats i've heard coming from a bucket :-p
no for real, that was cool. - Zer01, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Dat be SICK yo! Da sickness is SICK in dat drum solo. Never have I seen such sickness.
Can we retire that word soon?- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Naw, man. That'd be too sick. Or hawt.
Seriously. It's slang. Get over it.
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Naw, man. That'd be too sick. Or hawt.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Homeless people don't have that kind of confidence or energy.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Unless they freebase it.
- imcquill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm pretty sure that is Tony Royster Jr.
Type Drum Solo into google video and you get his famous drum solo as a 12 year old... along with this one.- aarons44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why, because he's a young black man? Definetly NOT Royster. Watch the MD show from when he was 12. You know, the one where he does the helecopter lick on the cymbals and funk most of us could only dream of. His stuff on Nick Jr. was better than this guy.
- imcquill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry, my comment wasn't quite right... if you type Tony Royster Jr. into Google Video, that video comes up (along with the solo when he was 12).. Race was not involved in my guess.
- PacoDEmu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Not quite what I would call sick, pretty lame.
He plays the same phrase over and over. And its nothing but simple diddles and accents. Maybe he should try learning some hybrid rudiments.
If you want to see real drumming check out Drum Corps International.- dalex1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well, the kid has energy and he can play really fast. He seems to entertain people and if can make his living doing this, more power to him.
Nothing in that video was technically impressive, though... - democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Agreed, it's nothing but flash. Let's see him do some triple-diddles over the top at that speed. Other than that, I'm sick of people thinking fast=good.
- dalex1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well, the kid has energy and he can play really fast. He seems to entertain people and if can make his living doing this, more power to him.
- aaronw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAEd6GW_fXA says this is Larry Wright
- MrAction408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Larry Wright!
http://www.drummerworld.com/wishlistdrummers/Larry_Wright.html - iSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Video of him at 15 for sale :
http://www.frif.com/cat97/k-o/larry_wr.html
- MrAction408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Larry Wright!
- awesomepossum94, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks like some where at 3rd street in Santa Monica or at Venice. When you go to 3rd street you see so many of these guys....pretty sweet
- deltaechoromeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually saw this guy in San Fran. He had a sign that said he'd been on Oprah. Anybody able to find that video?
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9To any drummer, the only impressive thing here (and it's only fairly so) is his rhythm. Consistent and fairly speedy it is, however, creatvity is where he excels. He manipulates the sounds by moving the drum between his feet by and squeezing it between his feet, which also flexes the plastic, allowing more bounce back, thus faster rolls are easier.
Good vid. OLD vid, but only truly impressive to those who don't play ) - Namingishard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Amazing? Hell no,
Pretty good? sure why not. - lsmaster, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1This is so old. Bury this now.
- rydjohnson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Even though he plays the same rythym, I think its pretty good drumming skills to actually stay at a fast pace...I give him props.
- ahitsasham, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1This guy got on my nerve's after hearing him banging them damn paint buckets every mourning for the last 8 months. He is always at the 34th and broadway trian station.
- xartion, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0I'm black and live in a multimillion dollar home, jealous?
- socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1damn richers.... (south park reference)
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dang, I live in a $300/mo apartment. I've got to check into that white entitlement program sometime.
- 1337diggster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Pretty good considering he isn't even using real drums, he is just using tip over buckets lol. I'd like to see what he can do on real drums.
- PhilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If this guy is this good on a bunch of upturned buckets, he could be awesome on a kit.
- san1ty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is "sick" good now?
Damn I'm getting old...- PaGaNism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yes and yes
- socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Chicago , IL has a few regulars that do the same down town, bucket and all. I think $300 a day is prolly being pretty modest.
- right75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Righto! I like it when those young dudes show up and play their drumline-like show. I hate it when the cops break them up, but they show up elsewhere in the neighborhood shortly after they're told to scram.
- dogstylee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1In Cardiff, UK, we have a guy called Ninjah... big 6'6" black dude with dreads from Birmingham who stands there banging on a bin all day with his drumsticks, dressed in fairywings, women's clothing or whatever he can find.
http://myspace.com/ninjahjones
***** idiot. - PaGaNism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Of course he's in to a very different kind of style of music now..
http://www.larrywrightmusic.com/
Only kidding :P
I have seen this guy pop up on the net for a few years now and I am amazed no one has snatched this obviously talented young man up and given him wads of cash to do what he does... No doubt he deserves it. - friedcalamari, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Just in case they remove the vid, here you go:
Tum tat ta Tum tat ta Tum tum tat ta Tum tat ta Tum tat ta Tum tat tat ta Tum tat ta Tum tat ta tat Tum tat ta Tum tat ta tum tum tum tat - democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Not that amazing. He's just doing straight 16th or double-stroking a lot. Sounds fancy, but it's not very tough. Just fast. And, no, playing fast isn't hard (unless he wants to show me straight 16th notes that fast on a hi-hat with one hand).
But, I guess since it sounds "flashy" everyone likes it. Like iPods, sports cars, and double bass drum pedals, it's nothing but flash.- PaGaNism, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This guy is a street performer and does not have the luxuries of a hi-hat, bass drum, tom tom or snare.
- democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You're absolutely right. But that has nothing to do with what I said. All I said is that he didn't do anything impressive.
Learn to read.
Might convince you your namesake is way off, as well. - kellyschrock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, cuz, you know, playing 16th notes is really easy when you do it on a plastic bucket.
- fatas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Poor guy because he is black he can't join a rock band and have orgies with groupies.
- coopergillan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lame.
- Burritovision, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1dude that guy did it. I knew what he was going to play as he played it the first time i watched it. i moved my hands in the same way at the same time. never seen it before. fantastic. he rode the same wave i did.
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's quick, not really all that fast. Nor is it really that good. He's got some rythym, ok, but anyone even half serious at playing has to.
It's hard really to judge how well he's actually playing when all the buckets sound the same. - KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Pa rum-pum-pum-pum.
Except, about 50 times faster. - TJENN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's freaking awesome! I'd hire that guy in a heart beat to be in a band.
- kellyschrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if the guitar player named "buckethead" is looking for a drummer?
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Maybe that's why you are not a band manager. He's not really that good. He's got some average quickness, but nothing special. He's just playing some flash beats over and over and boringly over. It doesn't suck, but it's really not that great either.
- sporkit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0this man is my new sensei.
- clickwir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You don't have very high hopes then. Just think, if this guy really was half as good as some people think, he'd be in a band.
