youtube.com — Ugobe designers and engineers studied the long extinct Camarasaurus, a dinosaur from the Jurassic period. Pleo, a Ugobe Life Form is the authentic recreation born from that study. UGOBE's designers and engineers recreated Pleo's physiology from the fossils of the original.

- Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30That's pretty impressive although it's essentally a high tech furby at this point.
- agrumbine, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Yeah, just like the latest-greatest Dell XPS is just a high-tech IBM 5150...
- MasterGrief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I wonder if it will act the same as a furby if you microwave it?

- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -3/+6Boring indeed. And a misleading title.. wtf? Marked as lame.
- sh0k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14That's really cool, although the "autonomous" part of the description page is a little bit exaggerated ^_^
Good find. What's with the title, though? "World's First life form"?- MasterGrief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He/she probably meant "World's First Robotic Lifeform".
- Tsujigiri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It seemed kinda slow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK9iyEGUA2s - stimcaps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The first company that can make a toy like this that realistically mimics kittenish/puppyish behaviors and doesn't use noisy, whirring servomotors will make a mint.
- CasaMan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2and this thing can't even walk!

- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16Well, only if you believe in that evolution jazz. The good book says that jesus created plastic robot dinosaurs 5000 years ago before he created anything else. After he got pissed off at it caue it was so ***** boring, he killed it off and decided to design something else.
^^the word of the lord - Hypodrive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Which god?

- radioactivesmrf, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I think that is amazing and I love what they are doing with these robotic animals now. It would be nice for someone who is allergic to most animals and thus cannot own a real pet.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Yes, I totally want my real pets replaced with fake, metal ones. That seems so much better. I don't need to pet them or feed them or anything, so it takes out all the responsibility! Awesome! /sarcasm
I'm allergic to all of my pets. I frickin' deal with it. We have meds for that now, in case everyone else has been too stupid to realize it. Some stupid robot, that doesn't even have emotions, will never replace true animals. - Hypodrive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Some stupid robot, that doesn't even have emotions, will never replace true animals."
Some day you will be very surprised. Just like when they said nobody will ever need more that 1 megabyte of space.

- harris2004, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1its not for sale,,i could not find any sales information...i wonder how much it would cost if it was for sale.
- Warpling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I think I read it would be about $200
- compressedaudio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2wo
:) - Jadix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10that thing is retarded. that would be broken and thrown in the corner so fast at my house. It moves too slow, its uninteresting, i couldn't even finish the video.
- Warpling, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1ok then don't get one, you didn't finish the vid so you don't know enough about it to make that judgment.
- geuisteses, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Better vid
http://www.demo.com/demonstrators/demo2006/63039.php- geuisteses, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Might be a better video, but shows kinda how lame the first one was. They're almost the same. God I hate lame product launches.
- ohgr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think the real thing would not be so nice and cute to play with
- arof, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6How, might I ask, do these videos get more diggs than views on the youtube link? This is not the first time I've seen this, either. Do that many people digg stories without a view?

- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A great start at something that could be awesome. His processer seems slow though.
- drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11it's fake, it's just a routine of scripted motions...
- drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13DEBUNKED!!!! http://digg.com/videos_gaming/THE_WORLD_S_FIRST_LIFE_FORM_Debunked_Video
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dino on ludes?
- fluffyturtle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I fell asleep...
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This might be impressive if you are 13.
Depressingly though a large number of Digg members ARE 13.
Hence I guess it's popularity.
On another note, for the slightly older among us, it is easy to program a set of known behaviors and then behave as though you were genuinely interacting. You can write a very simple computer program that will do this.
When this thing does something completely *unexpected* like jump up and bite the guy on the nose - and in so doing demonstrates a certain degree of free will, THEN I will be impressed.
Until there is will be like all the other kids toys. They will play with it for an hour and then shove it in a drawer and probably never play with it again.- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Until then it will be like all the other kids toys."
Dumb digg editing...
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Until then it will be like all the other kids toys."
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It's fake! You can see the way its movements stutter a little bit. I bet it's just a battery-run model - realistic though!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8What.. you thought it was a real dinosaur?
- Fotograffiti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kidding right? LMAO
- johntwoods, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1dinoSAUR? more like dinoBORE... that's right. BORE.
This thing will go the way of the he-man figure. And just like I did with my Many-Faces and Battlecat figures, I'll end up running over it with the lawnmower when i'm 12 and realize, "oh THAT's where it went... Meh..." and continue mowing, dino-parts strewn across the lawn.

www.johntwoods.com - pyro108, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1@Raid, So what if a lot of people on digg are 13? There are a lot of Smart 13 year old's on the net.
And its true, I don't fully trust it. Unless I was there playing with it and saw it work how they say it does, I don't fully trust it. And the title? Change it please.
P.S. The good book of Science proves evolution. Get over it. Evolution works, and its correct. Good luck in the "After Life". - dyrmsz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The cuter they make robots the closer we are to having them take over!

NOO, its not batteryrun! no way! Do you see a cord anywhere? And Just because it stutters a bit doesn't mean its fake. Because my friend stutters in speech, does that mean he is fake? If so, then I knew it.
P.S. The good book of Science proves evolution. Get over it. Evolution works, and its correct. Good luck in the "After Life".
Sorry for the double post.- lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Spoken like a 13 year old.
- brentv, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0your friend stutters in speech? what a loser
- martoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At least this site looks better than WOWEEs. Those guys couldn't web-design their way out of a paper tube.
- Ental, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ha, we all know how it feels to be woken up before we want to. Pleo seemed a bit cranky.
- drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10DEBUNKED!!!
http://digg.com/videos_gaming/THE_WORLD_S_FIRST_LIFE_FORM_Debunked_Video- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lol, so the whole thing is totally scripted?
Pah... for a $200 toy, what do you expect?
Still it will make a nice in store demo and they will probably sell crap loads.
Although how the guy expects to get away with selling a totally fake toy is anyone's guess. - drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it may not be fake in theory, they may be working on it... but it's stupid to display the thing and lie to everyone
- xdevit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I thought i was the only one that noticed that..
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lol, so the whole thing is totally scripted?
- solidsmoke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If I had one of those, I would skin it. Then it would actually look kind of cool.
- n31m, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0this is just stupid.
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I thought the first life forms on earth were Adam and Eve? Or was that Adam and Steve..?
- Automatic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0that thing looks constipated
- drapelyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I took a video of 2 videos of the Pleo side-by-side to prove that it's fake take a look.
http://www.digg.com/videos_gaming/THE_WORLD_S_FIRST_LIFE_FORM_Debunked_Video - upsilonh24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does that thing does anything more than blinking?
- cklol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What the hell is up with that rediculous title? God damn it's ignorant.
- frostyausty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dupe
- JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is easily one of the dumbest things I've seen. Why the hell would I want a jittery toy that is essentially a plastic pet and can't begin to compare to a real dog or cat? I agree that if a company can pull it off some day...so that they behave realistically...they'll make a mint. And imagine the market for those that are allergic to pet dander.
But this? Who would buy this? - Pleo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0But the only question is: it's a toy or a robot. It's a robot with a price of 349 $ ... http://www.pleo-web.de
