    On another note, for the slightly older among us, it is easy to program a set of known behaviors and then behave as though you were genuinely interacting. You can write a very simple computer program that will do this.

    When this thing does something completely *unexpected* like jump up and bite the guy on the nose - and in so doing demonstrates a certain degree of free will, THEN I will be impressed.

    Until there is will be like all the other kids toys. They will play with it for an hour and then shove it in a drawer and probably never play with it again.

Why the hell would I want a jittery toy that is essentially a plastic pet and can't begin to compare to a real dog or cat? I agree that if a company can pull it off some day...so that they behave realistically...they'll make a mint. And imagine the market for those that are allergic to pet dander.
