Robot Chicken: Calvin and Hobbes "The Untold Story" watch!
youtube.com — Adult Swim's 'Robot Chicken' shows you the untold story of Calvin, an imaginative six-year old boy and Hobbes, his energetic and sardonic, albeit stuffed, tiger. They did a good job with this, but I always knew it would end this way for the duo. (VIDEO)

- atommclain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+54Watching this video I don't know if I should laugh or cry.
- Andicow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I did a little of both! That was sick and twisted but amusing nonetheless!
- victorycig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Yeah, definitely puts a new spin on an old childhood favorite...
- moovitz, on 10/12/2007, -22/+1edit.
- musters, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Robot Chicken is awesome
- billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -15/+16Calvin and Hobbes is *way* funnier than *this* stuff. If you're not already a fan, go read some. Here's a start: http://www.progressiveboink.com/archive/calvinhobbes.htm
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If the episode had continued he would have become Spaceman Spiff and attempted a daring escape from the evil zorlok overlords.
- choicetoes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34You just ruined my childhood. But I had fun while you were ruining it!
- Soniti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4woops my bad-
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Hey that's not what Calvin's voice sounds like!
- choicetoes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16You mean he doesn't sound like a 55 year old woman who smokes two packs a day? Again, my childhood memories have been dashed!
- Soniti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Calvin doesn't have a voice. That's why Bill Watterson stopped making calvin and hobbes- because they wanted to make a cartoon out of it.
~Soniti - Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree: Calvin's voice isn't right, but I liked Hobbes' voice. A pretty cool vid.
- Platypus3333, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12This video is so remarkably depressing that I can't bring myself to stop watching it.
- mikesherov, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Ha, my favorite part is when Calvin does the narration for the ferocious tiger. Reminds of all the Sunday strips where Calvin narrates the Spaceman Spiff, or a ferocious T-Rex, or a disgusting fly. Hilarious!
- mlvassallo, on 10/12/2007, -53/+22There is a reason Bill Watterson is in seclusion and spits at anybody who suggests he bring back his masterpiece or sell it for a feature film- and this might very well be it.
Robot Chicken is a lame show and they haven't the clout to tread in this territory.- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -26/+13Hey mylvassallo, your ***** is showing.
- billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Watterson is a true artist. I love that guy! : )
- KVargs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12woot for growing up in the same small town bill waterson did, chagrin falls, ohio.....yeah thats about all i have going for me
- dagr8tim, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4I saw that last night on RC. Quite enjoyable.
- rootneg2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+63I miss Calvin and Hobbes....
- blinkfink182, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Ditto. I've been a fan for almost the entire existence of Calvin & Hobbes. Great comic that can say a lot about life and having children.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Rootneg2, whoever dugg/diggs you down for that comment has no soul.
BTW, anybody know of a good site to see C&H strips? GoComics won't let me view earlier than Oct 95. - billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11You can come over to my house, I have all the books! : )
- DatoeDakari, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5I have a friend like Hobbes*twitch*, he talks to me alllll the time. No one else can hear him though*twitch*, you believe me, don't you dad?*twitch*.
- Jerome@Gattaca, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Sweet merciful crap that's depressing.
- thecolorme, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Freak'n Hilarious!
- cgoff, on 10/12/2007, -18/+11I didn't like it. It's not in the spirit of Calvin & Hobbes whatsoever (i.e. the innocence that makes the comic so enjoyable), more like an ugly South Park rendition of C&H.
Do yourself a favor and go to a bookstore and buy a Calvin & Hobbes book instead of wasting bandwidth on videos like this. - Lisztman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Whats most depressing is that this is not too far from what could happen in our "modern" society. Childish imagination is squelched and treated like a disease these days if it is too "far flung."
After the initial unexpected shock driven humor, this is, if anything, a sobering social commentary. :/- Lazybones, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Welcome to Robot Chicken...
- Lisztman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Never seen it really.
- pizzafiend, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7How does this have 315 diggs and the actual video has only 221 views?
- MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12you dont have to watch the clip to digg the story
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -10/+6I'm going to reply, then block you.
Because its SOCIAL BOOKMARKING!
- psicom, on 10/12/2007, -18/+8C&H has Christian undertones. Of course it's going to be twisted.
- choicetoes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It does? Exemplify, please.
- jmontes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Hobbes represents Jesus, the parents Joseph & Mary, ..., umm..., help me out psicom, because I have absolutely nothing here!
- reiggin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Because Christians believe in seemingly imaginary creatures that purport to be our unconditional friend and protector? All the while baffling the minds of the learned and mature (e.g. Calvin's parents). Of course, this parody video suggest that it all ends in bloodshed and a loony bin. But that's strictly Seth Green and Matthew Senreich's twisted interpretation, right?
- WhiteRaven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One of the best C&H strips of all time points out the similarities of Santa Clause and God... both big mysteries that expect things from us in exchange for presents but when you get right down to it... they're nowhere to be seen.
Calvin & Hobbes isn't the least bit Christian, it promotes *FREE THOUGHT*. Try it some time.
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1That Calvin looks and sounds like a teenager, not a 6 years old.
- Nukem945, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3In a word: "Disturbing"...
- MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Robot Chicken never fails to impress!
- b00st3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is sadly true
- markus941, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Digg me down if you must but I really didn't think it was that funny. I liked C&H when I was growing up and I like ATHF & Family Guy, so it's not like I'm Mormon or anything. But I'm just surprised that this many people really think this was funny.
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Lol, I am mormon and I DID like it.
- WhiteRaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It played on the thoughts we all had when reading those comics. "Okay, so is Hobbes real or not"? Not only was the bit funny, it was actually rather deep.
Aside from commemorating C&H, the bit actually achieved two seemingly contradictory things at the same time... it showed the tragedy of forced conformity and it also reminded us that yes, there really is crazy.
Maybe I'm trying to put too much weight into this but I think this really said something profound. We must foster individuality and creativity (for I think most of us felt sorry for Calvin when it seemed that his childlike innocence and imagination were being trampled) but this doesn't mean we should allow or condone destructive behavior. A real world example would probably be the way rap can sometimes feed into a violent lifestyle. It would be wrong to stifle the creativity of rap but that creativity does not excuse crime.
- LFFL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Oh come on guys. Even if you were a fan of the comic strip, this clip basically is like a reality check for the strip, because the way the comic was portrayed couldnt have possibly been real.
The fact that the comic couldnt have possibly been real didnt take away from our enjoyment of it, but its funny when that aspect of it gets presented in such a blunt manner.- ippersiel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I concur. It would be like showing how realistic Marmaduke is. A dog can't order pizza and a pizza delivery guy would never present the pizza to the dog.
Another great skit from Robot Chicken!

- bmxboy661, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i love robot chicken
- Afroman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I love Robot Chicken, but i agree with some of you.. Bill W was great and he was funny with out all the vulgar/stupidity that you see in alot of comedy now.
Now, i know i will get dugg down.. but here is my one of favorite CH strips.
http://bleedingwound.com/~afroman/ch_dreams.jpg - loquax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This reminds me of that great SNL short about Davy and Goliath where Davy is the Son of Sam and Goliath is the devil dog. I'm a big C&H fan, but if you can't laugh at a parody, you're probably missing a lot of the Humor in C&H anyway.
- simX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Um, yeah. If this is parody, it's some pretty lame-ass parody. Did we really need somebody to point out the obvious inconsistency between what Calvin perceives of Hobbes and what Calvin's parents perceive of Hobbes? I mean, you pretty much need to accept that from the very first strip (willful suspension of disbelief). And did we really need to watch 90 seconds of video that destroys what each of us thinks of how Calvin talks and replaces it with some lame voice actor?
This is much more effective: http://img472.imageshack.us/my.php?image=calvinaddremix5rk.jpg (Via: http://digg.com/celebrity/Ritalin_destroys_Calvin_Hobbes )

there's an image about something like this, but i can't find it... - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1hahahahaha, awesome
- SwankRock3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I found this mildly amusing, and while I don't think there should be any "sacred cows" when it comes to parody or satire, this comes awful close to me. I've always had a massive amount of respect for Bill Watterson, and I don't really like seeing C+H messed with.
But, it did remind me of the existence of this (admittedly old) article, which links Fight Club to C+H, and is an interesting read:
http://metaphilm.com/philm.php?id=29_0_2_0/ - scoyndizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm not a huge fan of Robot Chicken and I rarely like the skits. This one is really no exception. It just kind of made me sad, Calvin and Hobbes are my favorite comic characers and I think the parody was kind of lame. But that's just my opinion.
I like the way they "animate" Robot Chicken though, I think it's a really cool approach to a show. Very different, I like it. - blunto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just think that this is a way of how to look at the comics. Calvin and Hobbes is too one of my favorite comic books, but I really liked this skit, as always, it's really fun+stupid, robot chicken style.
- TheWriteGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Growing up I enjoyed reading C&H. But in later years, toward the end of its run, I couldn't help but notice a disturbing, sad subtext: Calvin's parents had no names, and they seemed to be in a loveless marriage. Calvin's dad particularly seemed angry a lot, and emotionally distant from his son. This would explain why Calvin "escaped" into his fantasy world with his imaginary best friend Hobbes.
Yeah, I know: I'm reading way too much into a comic strip. But this Robot Chicken sketch reminded me of this theory of mine. - hosttosucceed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1***** Stupid, anyone who has actually read Calvin and Hobbes the whole way through and enjoys the story and Waterson's work would be offended by this ***** pathetic attempt to remake it. ***** lame and low Adult Swim for even airing this.
- kank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I was going to watch it, but then at the last second realised i didn't want to hear what someone else thought calvin and hobbes sounded like, i didn't want to lose the voices they both have when i read the books.
- FlapJaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, that was pretty close to what I though Hobbes sounded like in my head when I read the comics.. but not Calvin.
Still, Calvin and Hobbes ***** rocks. End of story. - socceralien26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4amazing...the rest of the ep is hilarious as well, thanks MoonsFang
- Neumann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Personally, I always thought that the Spencer Fox (the voice of Dash in "The Incredibles") would have been a PERFECT voice for Calvin... can never put down who should have been Hobbes, though.
You'd think that with computer technology and cell-shading and so on, it would be possible (albiet with a TON of work) to make a 3DCG animated Calvin and Hobbes that looks like Watterson's work. It would be fascinating to see as a test, but as a full movie it would be WAY too prohibitve with tigers and dinosaurs, stylized space adventures and so on... lots and lots of work. - schmee123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm NOT digging this. It's a complete insult to kids' imaginations... Calvin and Hobbes are my favorite comic, and I've always loved them... This is just stupid. I mean, who would be heartless enough to portray them this way? Ok, I'm done now.
- WhiteRaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think you gave it a chance. There is no insult to imagination here at all. It draws a clear distinction between imagination and delusion. The fact that the comics never really made it clear how Calvin's "world" worked leaves an opening for this "what if" scenario.
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Spaceman Spiff FTW.
- levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ROFLMAO, that explains everything!
