http://futuramaconan.ytmnd.com/ - kokorhekkus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24And for those who don't know: the original 1984 commercial was directed by Ridley Scott (of Bladerunner and Gladiator fame). It was aired during the 3rd quarter of the Superbowl... not cheap.
- JoCliMe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+67And for those who haven't...oh wait. I have nothing left to add.
- mrwiggl3s, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1doesn't do much good for the people who didn't see the first one
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4"Hey, we were watching that!"
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12You can also add that the "1984" they are referring to is the novel by George Orwell, which paints a picture of a troubling future and introduced us to many concepts that still resound with us today, such as "Big Brother".
And by "Big Brother", I don't mean that crappy reality show. - Harbinger67, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Wow, that original commercial was pretty terrible. What does ANY of that have to do with the Mac?
- mikesum32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@cmilki
too bad it's wrong
"Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives. We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology. Where each worker may bloom, secure from the pests purveying contradictory thoughts. Our Unification of Thought is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on earth. We are one people. With one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!"

- iomegaboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38Can't wait to see the new episodes.
- andrewry, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9When are they starting back up again? I can't seem to remember.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25sometime in 2008
- kwazyJAS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13go freeze yourself.
- there4iam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23"my only regret . . . is that i have . . . bone-itis."
- Kale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"hair gel? No thanks, I make my own..."
That was one of my favorite episodes.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -34/+15Why is this dugg? I mean futurama is a great show and all, but this isn't even close to one of the funniest moments, and it's not like its new or anything..
I shouldn't be so damn negative, but oh well..- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32Because of the "Apple" part of the title.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41Apple + Futurama = dugg
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Asking "why was something dugg" is a futile and stupid waste of bandwidth. Digg is a social bookmarking site, and people digg what they're interested in. The answer to that question will invariably be "because enough people thought it was interesting". Anyone asking why something was dugg should be buried for being redundant, and not understanding how Digg works.
- TheDrunkMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9"Digg is a social bookmarking site, and people digg what they're interested in. The answer to that question will invariably be "because enough people thought it was interesting".
I think it is still a legitimate question, just that it could be more directly phrased:
"Who the hell thinks this is interesting enough to digg it?" - WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3@TheDrunkMonkey: The answer to that is "who cares?". Don't you have better things to worry about? Regardless, a direct answer to your rhetorical question can be found by selecting the "Who Dugg or Blogged This?" tab at to top of the topic.
- subscribtion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You know what, I don't find this particularly entertaining or interesting at all. I just dugg it to screw with the heads of people who ask "Why is this dugg?"
Why did I digg it? BECAUSE I CAN. - blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Yeah, decent point, I deserved that. Still a dumb front page story though.
- sabbac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I Digg, therfore I am.
- avolant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2a waste of bandwidth, wiseweasel?
well arent we frugal...
- greymaxcat, on 10/12/2007, -25/+7Sad day when old ***** like this is on the font page...
- mikelykzit, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2yeah. i think i've been burying more articles than i've been digging lately... :-
- dcbebop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"this company is on the fast track to the it list ... blast fax kudos all around"
ok, i'm done. - ashwin100, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I've seen the episode many times before (who hasn't?) but I didn't realise that was a nod at the Apple commercial, meaning it's worthy of a digg.
- PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4How did you not realize? You get Internet access in that cave you live in, obviously.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ PDelahanty: "How did you not realize?"
Some of us weren't around in 1984...
- ragekaje, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3This isn't very entertaining. My guess is it's been dugg because it has something to do with Macs.
- Talus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8Yeah, great clip (from a great show) but it certainly isn't Digg front page material.
Meh..but that's what Digg is about. People digg what people like...and apparently this is what people like :)- avolant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i wish we could all take fate with such serenity
- omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I saw this before, but I didn't notice Mom said "our enemies will be eaten by squirrels." Thanks to whoever dugg this – old news, but worth revisiting. And more than just Apple kitsch, this is good '80s nostalgia.
- sebflipper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5These things happen: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4489792.stm
- raymondmarble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, that dance wasn't as as safe as they said...
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And points to anyone who can remember where apple got the idea from? anyone? starts with W...
- Kale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1George Orwell??
- MisterTastee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is cool but it's also pretty old
you can crush my body, but you'll never crush my spirit!
[giant crab falls on him]
ah! my spirit! - SmartITGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0That Futurama episode was years and years ago, and you only noticed that NOW?
- calums, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2uhh, #1- I didn't see the original episode, I only saw the link to it in the Apple 1984 Wikipedia article
#2- Some things are timeless. I wouldn't expect you to understand though.
