225 pranksters shop in slow motion at Home Depot - hilarious watch!
improveverywhere.com — Improv Everywhere is at it again! This past Saturday, 225 people descended on Home Depot in Madison Square Park to shop in slow motion. This is the same flash mob group that organized the fake U2 rooftop concert and invasion of Best Buy with lookalike-employees.

- kaimoku, on 10/12/2007, -2/+94This is hilarious! I gotta say my favorite part is how the employees exaggerate how long they were in the store. You gotta love it when someone feels they need to tell the craziest story for the camera!
- shertzerj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80Nah, the best part was when everybody froze. It'd be like being in a department store full of mannequins... only creepier.
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -41/+19http://www.improveverywhere.com/
- monkeycat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+133No the best part is when the Home Depot worker said that he needed to get out his camera to take a picture of the people walking in slow motion. Good idea buddy - take a picture of the slow motion!
- grouchyman, on 10/12/2007, -27/+10@monkeycat
don't be so cynical. perhaps he had a camera that could set manual shutter speeds and therefore be able to blur everyone else but the slow mo customer. that would have been neat to try and quite possible given what appears to be low lighting in the store. - Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Perhaps, they really were there for an hour...in a sense. Since time had slowed down for them, in some alternet reality, it was over an hour for some, and fifteen minutes for others.
- Airspeeder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21"No the best part is when the Home Depot worker said that he needed to get out his camera to take a picture of the people walking in slow motion. Good idea buddy - take a picture of the slow motion!"
That wasn't a Home Depot worker that said that. That was the guy from Improv Everywhere who was FILMING the Home Depot employees. He pretended not to be a part of the whole prank and acted like some random person who saw this happening:
"I stuck around after most of the agents had left to get reactions from the staff. I shot video with a small Cannon digital camera, claiming I was just a regular customer trying to figure out what was going on. "
RTFA. Also, most digital cameras now are capable of video capture. - imakeartwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2GAYEST Home Depot EVER.
look at the store front i think i'll buy my high heels there next time
- jpurnell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22This is so amazing...the employees are pretty funny...I love the curmudgeon guy
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I kinda wanted to punch the people that didn't notice.... A bunch of people were just walking by not even looking at all the people frozen. If I was there I'd either freeze myself, or I'd be staring at the people with a wierd look on my face.
- infobeat234, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really wanted to get in a flash mob when they started forming almost 2 years ago, but nothing local ever took shape. I love this one because you look at the whole store frozen and just a few other people walking around - makes it seem totally surreal.
Very well executed and put together, glad they had cams to share it with us!

- stan205, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Flash mobbing is great. If only it could be put together in many different stores of the same corporate logo across the nation.
- rushiku, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Yeah, what a great idea!
"Hey, let's all get together and make a general nuisance of ourselves"
"Oh Yeah Dude!"
"I'll be cool, cuz no one's every thought of nothing like this before"
"Oh Yeah Dude!"
"Then we can come back here, pat ourselves on the back and drink some beers"
"Oh Yeah Dude!"
"Then, because I stole my Mom's cam, we can put together a video of our lameness and sell it on the internet!"
"Oh Yeah Dude!"
These foxorz roxorz! What style, what grace, how out there can people get? Oh wow, oh wow, I am just amazed.
Ah, glad I got that off my chest. You can bury me now. - ejdmoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Improv Everywhere predates flashmobbing, and is sometimes quite different than flashmobbing.
- rushiku, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Yeah, what a great idea!
- pmppk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I love ***** like this... can't wait until their DVD comes out (mentioned on the page).
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -34/+17Grrrrr....no flash 8. Anyone have non-flash videos of this?
Damn you adobe, damn you.- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -35/+8It's free, you know...
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36they aint got it on linux tho
flash 7 only - PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -18/+10No linux support you know...
- RaistlinMajere, on 10/12/2007, -52/+106Get a real OS, hippies!
- broken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40Youtube ftw
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=ImprovEverywhere - AstroPHX, on 10/12/2007, -7/+56I'm OS agnostic, but "Get a real OS, hippies!" is damn near the funniest thing I've read in weeks.
- starquake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9My linux flash 7 plays it well, until the end. Firefox says that the flash7 script is making firefox slow.
- psych0fish, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2You have heard of dual booting or virtual machine software right?
- cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@RaistlinMajere
yeah i definitely got a good laugh out of that one, kudos!
- petroK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I love these guys...some of the performers (?) are really incredible at slowmotion movement (see sped up video)...some look incredibly natural, though they are actually going at a snails pace. Beautiful.
- merc22, on 10/12/2007, -77/+12This is stupid and nerdy.
- bcardarella, on 10/12/2007, -69/+8Yeah, this is what happens when theater majors have too much free time on their hands because mommy and daddy to support them 24x7
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48says the guy on Digg.....
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -15/+5I don't think I'm in good company here, but I think that was kind of retarded.
Might trip you out for about half a second when you first see it, but then you'd quickly realize it's just a bunch of douche bags.
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13i would have been so pist, slow and NYC don't go together... but still cool that someone took the time to do this.... that home depot is the first in manhattan.
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@ joerod
"slow and NYC don't go together"
Unless you're eating at a Manhattan fast food restaurant.
; )
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@ joerod
- missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26I love these guys.
The part where they all froze was so well done it gave me goosebumps.- r00tus3r, on 10/12/2007, -27/+3Clearly you need to get out more...
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16^ she's the girl, you're the guy naming yourself r00t us3r ;-)
As for the video, I have to agree that the frozen part was the most impressive one. :-)
- ochito, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Mirror for the video, anyone? YouTube or something? It won't open on my Firefox, and I do have the right flash. Maybe my corporate firewall won't let it through
- brino11, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0This is great, now if only someone would do a slomo vid of people swimming in the turkey bin at a grocery store!!
- julienbh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44Improv Everywhere is a pretty cool way of making people laugh and making our life better. What is awesome is how many people are in that group. It really is amazing!
Gotta love what they do, even if if doesn't seem to make sense to everyone.- dmurray14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21From what I understand, they don't really have members..they just send out a bulletin when they are in the area and call people to do it. They don't tell anyone what it is they're doing until right before they do it. I don't think they're all actors, just a lot of average people who volunteered..
- ryness, on 10/12/2007, -49/+5this is actually quite dumb. Goes to show just how lame drama geeks can be.
- OnlyShawn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17you belong in home depot, toolbox.
- tikistyle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21This is one of the coolest group-improv events ever. If i saw this live, i would join right in! +10 points for them.
- paulryan21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Very funny - great idea.
- ManHammer, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Awesome video...Home Depot blows, never buy anything from them online.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I am standing rght now and starting a slow clap. This is brilliant!
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -25/+7gay,... only flash 8... thanks a bunch.
no one should use flash 8 unless they have to- thespace, on 10/12/2007, -16/+8whatever... http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash/
- underthewether, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10the slow motion part was somewhat lame since most of the performers weren't very good at it. the frozen part was awesome, especially since they have dozens of people frozen at the same time.
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30This is great--love these guys. The Best Buy mission mentioned in the blurb is even better, though. Check it out if you missed it the first time through on Digg:
http://www.improveverywhere.com/mission_view.php?mission_id=57 - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -31/+5So this guy gets a bunch of people to do some really dumb ***** for free-- records it and sells it on a DVD.... and all you people are sucked in to it?
... like "I love these guys.
The part where they all froze was so well done it gave me goosebumps."
It gave you goosebumps to see people standing still in a ***** hardware store??
Super-lame.- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13So uh, if you don't get it, then don't watch it, don't digg it, and shut up.
- SportBilly, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1Pity the website sucks ass.
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Hey this is a first... the customers are slower then the employees for a change!
- tppeters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Looks like they also posted it on YouTube for you folks with Flash 8 issues:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29NLOhBttxA - MillenniumGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Improv Everywhere is a great idea. I really liked when they took over a Best Buy. The world needs more humor like this.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Best thing I've seen all week.
- jd72277, on 10/12/2007, -32/+2I agree with everyone who said this is lame drama kids at their lamest. -digg this comment as you wish, unfunny drama nerds.
- tobiasproject, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27maybe you should beat them up after football practice?
- BrockH01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Good stuff.
- mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This is pretty funny. I still like the one they did in Best Buy where they all wore blue shirts and khaki's.
- toastgodsupreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was awesome. And the fact that cops were called, priceless!
I hope this inspires more people to just have fun like this. I wish there was more footage from the Best Buy one.
- toastgodsupreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was awesome. And the fact that cops were called, priceless!
- ViRaZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That's the cleanest Home Depot I have ever seen.
- OandA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its also the most god damn expensive home depot ever. They gotta make you pay for the high manhattan rent.
- spracky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That was great. I would have loved to do something like that.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16That's the best thing about these people. They don't do harmful and annoying Jackass type stunts, it's all harmless fun and in good spirits.
- Smeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3These guys are awesome. Whenever they do something they always make me laugh.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just as good as all the others...Very Funny...
- waytoorandomx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Very awesome. I need to see the Best Buy thing.
- Skunkhair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As a faithful employee of the "Big Orange Box" ..... that was awesome!
- dweeb73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The Best Buy thing is better, only because the store management are pricks (which is the usual modus operandi for them), and called the cops who really couldnt do much about it. Awesome.
- Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Not that I'm a fan of Best Buy or anything, but in that prank, there was the possibility that the Best Buy impersonators were staging some sort of criminal activity, whereas in Home Depot, it's hard to steal stuff when you are moving in slo-mo--or not moving at all.
Very cool. This is the sort of thing that makes me wish I lived in NYC, just so that I could participate in one of these pranks. It looks like a lot of fun.

- nurriz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a great idea. Must have been great to be a part of. Good digg!
- ajimmykid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0flash mobs are great.
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2That was a great prank, but the person needs to wake up a little about Jewel saving their soul.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3well they for sure have enough people to get thhis digged to the frontpage for sure ;) very interesting and i got lost on the site for about an hour.
- jburchel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the coolest Digg sites I've seen in a while. Fantastic hiLARious!
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kids today...when I was a lad, we had to beat up vagrants for our kicks.
- DiMo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2these guys are pretty damn good at freezing. this is awesome
- Kniggit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone remember that Star Trek TOS episode where everyone moves faster except for certain people under the influence of some special potion or device? It's like that, only in real life.
Freakin' hilarious!- tppeters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Check out their Moebius mission - it's partly inspired by the TNG ep "Time Squared":

- slstsang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if you live in the new york area, you can sign up their mailing list and particiapate. t's a great activity to bring your date along. my favorites ones are best buy, U2 rooftop concert, library mp3 symphony and apartment store window dance.
- JPOOPOO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its like in Half Baked during the flashback when they go into the 7/11 type store. Maybe all these people were stoned at the time
- mac0Fd00m, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3fu**ing lame! don't you people have anything better to do than annoy employees of the service industry by doing something that isn't even funny? get some fu**ing lives
- zoombusa, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Freaking stupid. Don't people have anything better to do? The BestBuy prank was funny but this was just plain stupid. This is not art. Marked as LAME-O!
- robbienevin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How come my Home Depot dosen't look like that?
