- bob_the_alien, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11So a good smoker goes and takes a smoke broke and maybe a nap while his wife does all the housework, hmm, maybe I should take up smoking.
- foshizol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Actually I was thinking the opposite. Poor Barney and Fred work all day under the sun at the rock query, and then when they get home their wifes expect them to do even more work. Those two can't catch a break No wonder they smoke; there just trying to kill themselves to get away from their wifes.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Yeah but Fred got to slide down that big ass dinosaur at the end of every day.
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4Digg needs to improve their search feature and dupe warning. No disrespect intended towards the submitter, and I'm glad people got to see it, but man ... dupes are out of control.

Damn that Barney Rubble!- GearCritic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hear ya, I quit smoking a year ago, and I'm still craving a smoke..... even seeing that commercial made me get a little anxious...it's amazing how addicitive thos things are.... good for you though for quitting!
- cduquette, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11So that's where Family Guy got their idea for their Lassy spoof..

Are you smoking yet?!- dukrous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No, that was just what was rumored to be going on back then. I don't think anyone's ever proved one way or another if subliminal advertising was ever used.
- grungyhamster, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Like a cigarette should indeed.
Stupid cavemen, breathing in fire as recreation. Maybe they'll learn as animation gets better and they're forced to be ran over and over again on Boomerang that smoking is indeed bad for you. - D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6That's why neanderthal man is dead.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Different times. I find it hilarious that, previous to WWI, lung cancer was extremely rare and most doctors could go their whole career without seeing it...
And then cigarette companies were given permission to put their product in military rations. The rest is history.- saralk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Cigarettes in rations were intentional, when you first started smoking, the nicotine would increase alertness, memory and reaction speed. Obviously, in a war time scenario, this was highly beneficial. However, as people's bodies got used to this, the brain would function at a lower capacity so the effect of a cigarette would only bring you up to normal brain functionality.
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4most cartoons back in the day were targeted towards adults and children. there are many topical and adult only jokes in many bugs bunny cartoons that children glaze over. for the day and age it was made this isn't surprising. as far as those people knew, cigs were perfectly healthy, if not just a little dirty.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Ha! That was a great video! And those cigs were as big as their entire arms.
"They sure do work hard"
"Yeah. Let's go out back so we can't see them." LOL - PAJK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Man, that's freaky. I always hate it when people refer to "taste" with regard to cigarettes. Taste my ass.
- mikegioia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14well if you say so...
- torrentado, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1reminds me of In the Mood for Love
- dreserd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Makes me want a cigarette.
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Time for a smoke break.
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Do you know how many times this has been posted on digg? Please search before you submit.
- jesselee54, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This clip makes me wonder where all the original Flintstone cartoons are. I'd love to see them again. Not the Pebbles/BamBam stuff, the first couple of seasons. Great post.
- derekvof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Old Jack Benny radio shows featured Mel Blanc who played various roles on the show (Jack's parrot, his car, etc.). Mel also did the voices of lots of Warner Bros. animated characters, and at times used them to do advertisements on the show for Lucky Strike cigarettes. Go listen to this episode of the show about 10:45 in -- http://www.crispy.com/benny/audio/season_22/1951-02-25_760.mp3 -- Tweety bird doing a cigarette commercial... Unreal.
And to the comment about putting cigarettes into rations for soldiers, you should hear some of the old Camel radio shows from WWII. The talk about how they send 1/2-1million cigarettes a week to soldiers -- free of course. - glafira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HA Winston
- Roguecop, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Dupp # 2...

My original didn't take off, the first dupe doesn't get front page, but five days later this one does... I guess it really does depend on what day and time of day to submit...- Megladon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Oh please, not all of us search every digg story every minute of the day, some of us just come and hit the popular ones and go no further, get a life.
- Roguecop, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4I don't get this. I went back and checked youtube every Flintstones smoking video is at least several months old, the oldest more than half a year. Since the I posted the original 5 days ago their have been least two dupps posted for at least a total of three. Here is new term for Digg.com...'submission leeching'.
- CanadianAviator, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Here is a new term for you... *****.
- iamsjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats amazing! I remember as a kid my folks would smoke while shopping for gorceries! You could also smoke in movie theaters...
I've been cig free for 7 months now!!
SjN - PrettyBoyFloyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have this clip along with about 150 others on an old CD I bought at Fry's Electronics back in the mid-1990s for abour $3.00. "TV Commercials of the 50's and 60's" was in the bargain CD bin the same day I walked out of the store with my very first CD-ROM drive, that set me back about $55. Since cigarette commercials were banned in the 1970's it's really interesting to see how they were marketed back then.
- tahim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hope to see them all up on youtube for our enjoyment...
- Justmemyownself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My childhood memories have now been tainted in a yucky, I can't smell or taste anything, my lungs are filled with Cancer, I smell bad and Barney and Fred are slowly committing suicide kind of way.
sigh...........
