The gasoline in the volt runs an engine that runs a generator that feeds electricity into the battery. It would be the same concept as any hybrid, a good alternative would be to use ethanol as that fuel for the generator. (see comment)

The Emissions are from the burning of the sugarcane, they are biomass, meaning that the CO2 produced was taken from the air to begin with, and no it does not produce as much emissions are regular gas, that would be chemically impossible. anyway, produce … (see comment)

@everyone, the U.S imposes heavy tariffs on the import of ethanol, and it has not been open to negociations on the subject. So the tariffs and the devaluated dollar make ethanol more expensive. jizzatch's comment was complete FUD. (see comment)
